Why is lockdown being eased when the alert level hasn’t changed?

Just seen that the CV alert level hasn’t been reduced from 4 to 3 yet the government are easing lockdown measures imminently. At level 4, the virus is widespread and risk is high and restrictions must be in place. Why then has the government been allowed to ease measures when there is still a clear, identifiable risk to our health?

Distraction techniques.

Something bad happens in left hand, dangle shiny keys in right hand.

Skybluepink123 · 29/05/2020 12:16

I suspect you’re right but it’s awful if that’s the case.

Boris needs to get the economy moving again to make money. Fuck the vulnerable

Bread and circuses. It’s a tactic used since the romans.

It’s the vulnerable that need the economy to get going again. It amazes me that some people don’t realise this.
Skybluepink123 · 29/05/2020 12:27

At level 4, the government’s own public information chart clearly states that “current social distancing measures and restrictions” are the “action required” which theoretically means that the lockdown measures introduced previously still need to be in place. Yet they’re just bulldozing through with a political agenda rather than a public health one. I truly fear for my family.

You need money to pay for the vulnerable. It is as simple as that. A few lessons in running an economy would help if people really think we can carry on with greatly lower production, tax take and GDP. We cannot and to help the vulnerable, others must work and pay tax. Ditto companies will be making far less profit so less tax from them as well. The very vulnerable still stay at home but the nation is not a bottomless pit of money.

homemadecommunistrussia · 29/05/2020 12:30

I think there has to be balance. The action required to contain covid 19 maybe to keep restrictions in place, but there are other factors to be considered such as mental health, access to health services and the economy. Lockdown cannot continue indefinitely for many practical reasons

BreatheDeeplyInTheSilence · 29/05/2020 12:36

Pure distraction to get people to stop going on about Cummings.
Sadly it seems to be working.

Fluffyglitterystuff · 29/05/2020 13:15

Imo its distraction from Cummings. Also that people were doing what they liked anyway.

I'm afraid I no longer trust the government after the mess they've made of this as well as the Cummings business.

I'll think for myself and make my own risk assessments, not just do what Boris tells me I can do,

Tfoot75 · 29/05/2020 13:46

Well presumably because the measures aren't changing until Monday? On Monday, presumably it will move to 3. If they did it now, you'd be asking why are we on 3 but nothing changes til Monday?

Neolara · 29/05/2020 13:49

Distraction from DC. I had assumed that was obviously the reason. The govt needed something big to take the heat off.

Thighmageddon · 29/05/2020 13:51

They'll do it on Monday because that's when the new measures begin maybe?

MorrisZapp · 29/05/2020 13:53

We're easing restrictions in Scotland too, with no Cummings to distract from. We cannot run a country with everyone shut indoors. Public health doesn't just mean Covid deaths, it means everyone's health and wellbeing.

Oysterbabe · 29/05/2020 14:01

They'll do it on Monday because that's when the new measures begin maybe?

Yes, exactly this.
I swear there are a lot of people in this country who are desperate for us to stay locked down forever.

Sunshinegirl82 · 29/05/2020 14:07

Out of interest, how many people watch the daily briefings where the data/plans are explained?

I don’t agree with a lot of the choices made by BJ etc but I watch the briefing in full everyday and a lot is explained.

The plan is to move, in stages, to level 3 with the slow relaxation of measures and careful monitoring.

Thighmageddon · 29/05/2020 14:12

Sunshinegirl82 I watch it every day because I appreciate the graphs and explanations given with them. It breaks everything down in to understandable chunks for us, the relatively stupid public.

SunbathingDragon · 29/05/2020 14:12

I agree with economy but also some people are starting to give up with obeying lockdown restrictions anyway. It’s probably better for the economy to get a small boost before a bigger second wave hits. Otherwise the economic hit drags on even longer.

ClassicCola · 29/05/2020 14:15

Lots of people have been meeting in peoples gardens anyway. It's just offical that you can do this now.

OneJump · 29/05/2020 14:17

Distraction from Cummings and the worst death rate in Europe.

People bloody love a barbecue, eh?

Michelleoftheresistance · 29/05/2020 14:19

Partly because Bloody Stupid Johnson has no real idea and just says things, often without making sense or really following a plan, as seen yesterday with people around him clearly trying to minimise the damage of what he was blurting out.

And partly because the 'science' was supposed to be the means to achieve the political aim, however if the science doesn't fit, the aim will happen anyway. The five tests (which sounded good) haven't been met, test and trace is so far sounding like a fiasco and it was advised to have it up and running properly for 14 days before they tried opening schools, but everyone in education knew, it was June 1st regardless of circumstances.

BSJ has no plan, nor a clue, but really in the mess he's created it's now better to just get on and go back to as normal as we can and hope to goodness that this virus really does just burn out as it may do and we don't end up with some second wave.

ClassicCola · 29/05/2020 14:22

If people don't want to meet other people outside, then they don't have to. But I will.

AdalindMeisner · 29/05/2020 14:22

Because they are trying to distract from Dickhead Cummings eye testing and travelling 260 odd miles whilst contagious with a killer virus whilst us normal people were abiding by the rules (or being fined - even when we weren't contagious) and staying home.

Just a guess that is why the puppet is easing lockdown too quickly (or rather the puppetmaster is).

ClassicCola · 29/05/2020 14:24

I don't think it's being eased too quickly. Do people want us locked down for years?
