what would you say you miss most about 'normal' times?
those small things perhaps, which we took for granted ....

aside from the obvious (seeing parents, not queuing, etc), what are the things you long to do again?

for me:
1/walking into a pub after a hike and being able to take a pee!
2/meeting people socially and randomly hugging them when saying goodbye.
3/planning and organising things at the drop of a hat: yoga class, bus ride to keswick on bored afternoon, driving lessons (i never learned to drive and promised myself i'd learn this year).
4/being able to moan about a cafe being too full!

The pub, definitely the pub. A sneaky pint with the DH on the way home from shopping, or a pub lunch at the end of a lovely walk. You can keep your fast foods places, I don't miss them. I would just like to sit in a beer garden

Day trips to the seaside.

feelingverylazytoday · 29/05/2020 00:53

Swimming.
Being alone.
Going on the bus.

mylittlesandwich · 29/05/2020 00:59

Being alone is a good one, I'm a social person but I liked a little bit of time to myself. I also miss looking after DS on my own, I was just getting the hang of it before lockdown.

SudokuBook · 29/05/2020 01:01

Having a job.

Puppybum · 29/05/2020 01:02

I miss the cinema so much. I also miss being on my own, I'm constantly tripping up over people

bluechameleon · 29/05/2020 01:04

National Trust places.
Mooching around the shops.
Going out for cake/lunch.
Having a break from the children.
Going to several different supermarkets/food shops for my favourite things from each.
Until the most recent relaxation I was really missing being surrounded by nature, so I'm really glad to be able to drive to the forest now.

Musicforsmorks · 29/05/2020 01:04

Ah yes, I get less time alone too, although I’m not a parent. Hadn’t looked at it like that.

I do think pub gardens will open before they introduce the interior-of-pubs.

As for beach trips, they’re doing that already. Although due to so many unable to,work and kiddies at home I reckon there are more at it now this would normally be at this time of yr.

It will be nice when things even out a bit so we can avoid mad crowds a bit more.

Only swimming. So I bought a swimming pool. I want to go on holiday to the coast, to swim. Everything else can wait.

Skige · 29/05/2020 01:07

Shielding. Any physical contact.

Musicforsmorks · 29/05/2020 01:07

Sudoku, I’m sorry to hear that. This is the worst, along with loss of course. It’s a fucking mess

I miss going to work, being around people, having a purpose and feeling useful.
I miss going to charity shops and finding a bargain. I miss normality.

Chrisinthemorning · 29/05/2020 02:35

Holidays
Being able to plan and look forward to things.

Time40 · 29/05/2020 02:43

Only swimming. So I bought a swimming pool

I was also going to say 'Only swimming'. I'm so envious of the swimming pool. What sort did you buy? I've been eyeing up the little back garden, and thinking of starting digging ... I'm not sure the council would let me convert the entire back garden into a pool.

I'd jump in the river, but I get bitten to death when I swim in rivers.

IntoTheUnknown89 · 29/05/2020 03:17

My parents.
My best friend.
My alone time.
McDonald's breakfast wraps.
Walking around the shops.
Face to face appointments with my genius like GP.

Oysterbabe · 29/05/2020 03:18

I miss being alone.

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 29/05/2020 06:42

Charity shops.

Mumbunmum · 29/05/2020 07:01

What am I missing ...... umm my children going to my Parents house for even an hour, I’m exhausted, like you know absolutely pooped beyond my wildest dreams. Can’t even remember being this exhausted when I first had both of my Children, it’s a different level of full on-ness and I’m just drained! I’m also really missing having a wander round the shops - oh and let’s not forget my wedding that was meant to be happening.. I’m missing that pretty bad!

Bluewater1 · 29/05/2020 07:05

Hugging, I miss hugging my extended family and my friends the most!!
Being able to pop into the shops to pick up something for tea
Walking around and holding hands with my partner, not walking 2m apart....
Haircuts!!

SpiderPlantSally · 29/05/2020 08:30

I don't personally miss anything that much (the experience has made me realise a) what an introvert I am and b) how much money I frittered away on pointless things). I think the last three months have made me more of a homebird than I ever was.
But I am desperate for some normality and sociability for my three teenager DCs (and I suppose I am also looking forward to them getting out and about, to give me and DP some private time alone in our very small house Blush!)
One thing I will do when I can is visit a dear friend in another part of the UK; she has been seriously ill with Covid and I am really looking forward to being able to hug her and tell her how glad I am that she has recovered.

SnuggyBuggy · 29/05/2020 08:35

Meaningful contact with other people
Being able to just go to the shops and buy the things I need (nothing exciting, bread, fruit, cheese) whenever I want.
Being able to make plans and have things to look forward to

Winnipegdreamer · 29/05/2020 08:35

I miss going for a coffee with my friends, I miss having routine, I miss child free time, I miss going for a mooch around Ikea, I miss work and colleagues!

ifonly4 · 29/05/2020 08:44

Another one here, a walk then the pub. A bit selfish, but I enjoy coffee and cake out in my own.

SnuggyBuggy · 29/05/2020 08:46

Me and DH had got into a routine of him going out somewhere with DD and me either sitting in a case. I miss that too
