what would you say you miss most about 'normal' times?
those small things perhaps, which we took for granted ....

aside from the obvious (seeing parents, not queuing, etc), what are the things you long to do again?

for me:
1/walking into a pub after a hike and being able to take a pee!
2/meeting people socially and randomly hugging them when saying goodbye.
3/planning and organising things at the drop of a hat: yoga class, bus ride to keswick on bored afternoon, driving lessons (i never learned to drive and promised myself i'd learn this year).
4/being able to moan about a cafe being too full!

I miss seeing my kids with their friends and doing their activities.
Pubs definitely-especially after a long hike. We got fish and chips after a nice walk the other day and it was such a treat.
I miss running with other people-I know we can meet friends now which is great but remembering to keep apart all the time is a pain. And I miss big organised events and races.
I miss being able to do my job properly.
I miss having a few hours to myself in the week to listen to my audible book and sort the house out.
I miss an awful lot really and that’s before I’ve mentioned friends and family

DanielleHirondelle · 29/05/2020 21:49

The sea

blametheparents · 29/05/2020 21:51

I miss seeing my kids with their friends and doing their activities.

Definitely this.

yarncakes · 29/05/2020 21:52

My dad and family :(

stardance · 29/05/2020 21:54

Apart from obviously seeing family and friends.....

Going out for meals (especially breakfast) or coffee.

Browsing in shops, especially places like home bargains or B&M!

Being alone in the house- only happened for a few hours a week previously but I used to enjoy it.

I thought I'd miss work but I don't at all- although I do miss some of my colleagues.

Msfoxy17 · 29/05/2020 21:57

Definitely weekend pub lunches and or pints after a nice long walk..

Pottering about town with my toddler and spending ages in the kids charity shop.

Meeting friends with kids and going to the playground or National Trust place or similar. My daughter not being able to play with her lovely neighbour of same age.

The library!

Msfoxy17 · 29/05/2020 21:58

Oh And camping. We'd normally have done 3 or more trips by this time of year...

LoveBeingAMum555 · 29/05/2020 21:58

Well there's big stuff like hugging my parents, camping and going to work, but smaller stuff too like books, I crave an actual book instead of the kindle. I also miss cafe stops when we are out walking and cycling and browsing the supermarket. Oh how I am sick of meal planning and not shopping (shielding DS).

ClassicCola · 29/05/2020 22:00

Having a laugh at work
The gossip at work
Mooching around the shops
My mum
Cafes
Greggs
Having my family around for dinner

JaggedHedge · 29/05/2020 22:03

It's difficult to get past the fact that I haven't seen my DP (apart from appropriately distanced) for 11 weeks.

After that, the sea. I've been craving sea air. It's too far to go without toilet access at the moment!

Thewheelsonthebus23 · 29/05/2020 22:25

Going to the cinema
Public toilets
Playgroups and soft play with my 19 month old
Going to my in laws house regularly for lunch or dinner
Browsing charity shops

Ohnopoo · 30/05/2020 16:22

I don’t know how people are managing not to see long term partners.

NiknicK · 30/05/2020 16:53

I miss things like going to the cinema, date night ie restaurant and drinks with my dh, going to watch my local rugby team play, going to the gym, taking my ds to the trampoline park. All of which will be the last things to open and start up again. I don’t care about football and horse racing starting again. I don’t care that I’m allowed to go and sit in someone else’s garden as I won’t be rushing to do that. I don’t care about shops re opening ie clothes shops as I shop for 90% of stuff online anyway. I know we all have own agendas and interests so will be happy at certain things starting again, but for me nothing has changed.

ilikebooksandplants · 30/05/2020 18:49

My family.
The gym and spin class. I am never bailing on spin again!
Swimming.
Holidays. I would give my left leg to be on an adventure right now.
Going out for breakfast with my partner.

Judiwench · 30/05/2020 18:53

Going to the supermarket. I'm shielding and havent stepped foot in one for almost 3 months.

girlicorne · 30/05/2020 19:43

Theme parks, zoos, safari parks, camping, holidays, the beach (we live 2 hours from the beach so normally we stay over). Having weekend and school holiday plans more exciting than walks and country parks which I enjoy but there are so many other places we like to go that are currently closed. I miss going to our local for tea on a Friday night and maccies after footie training on a Thursday.

skankingpiglet · 30/05/2020 19:54

In this order:

Being alone
Meeting up with friends en masse (yes, a bit of a contradiction with the above!)
Swimming
Live music/gigs/festivals

Mirrorxx · 30/05/2020 19:56

The only thing I really miss is travel. Getting a bit sick of cancelling holiday plans

Parker231 · 30/05/2020 19:59

Travel - my family are in Belgium and DH’s in Canada - no idea when we’ll get to see them.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/05/2020 20:10

Having the house to myself while the family is at work/ school.
Conversation about anything other than Minecraft. Ninjago, WW2 weapons and strategy or Covid 19.
Females.
An external structure to life: school runs, volunteering, fitness classes.
Events in my calendar to look forwards to
Seeing friends
Parkrun and races
Spontenaity, browsing
Choosing to do anything other than going for a walk
McBreakfasts
Family. I haven't even seen my mum's face since she was in a hospitalbed 3.5 months ago. She doesn't even have a mobile phone.

About a week ago, I was feeling horendously peopled out and lonely simultaneously.

Any kind of motivation has evaporated into a void of indeterminate, unpunctuated time. I only know it's the weekend because the local paper is scandalising over crowded beauty spots, bad parking and littering.

ssd · 30/05/2020 20:11

My kids who are young adults having the social life they deserve. They don't deserve this.

Fayrazzled · 30/05/2020 20:16

I miss popping out for a coffee or glass of wine with friends.
I miss touching people.
I miss the camaraderie of some colleagues.
I miss teaching children in a classroom.
I miss seeing my Dad.
I miss my children being able to see their friends.
I miss my Mum (more than ever, which is weird because she died 6 years ago). But I really really miss her at the moment.

Fayrazzled · 30/05/2020 20:19

I also miss going out for meals.
I miss the possibility of going to the cinema or theatre.
I miss time by myself.

Missmelanier · 30/05/2020 20:29

The gym, home workouts aren't the same!
Being able/wanting to go to multiple supermarkets in the same day, coeliac so limited range and prefer different things from each supermarket
Driving to random village coffee shops

FloralStreet · 30/05/2020 20:35

I miss my friends in my home city as we would meet up regularly both home & away.
Using the train.
My hairdresser.
Meeting up with local friends & having a mooch round town.
Primark, John Lewis, H&M & Boots in person not just online.
McDonalds coffee.
Doing my food shop online.
Peace & quiet as everyone is at home most of the time.
Like pp's I had lots of plans in the pipeline for the next few months, but I take stock & think how fortunate I am being alive & healthy along with my friends & family.
Others haven't been so fortunate.
Maybe it's age/life experience but I know that this weird time will pass & sooner or later we will be back to our usual one day (even though we'll all be a bit shell shocked thinking back to what we've all been through)
