what would you say you miss most about 'normal' times?
those small things perhaps, which we took for granted ....

aside from the obvious (seeing parents, not queuing, etc), what are the things you long to do again?

for me:
1/walking into a pub after a hike and being able to take a pee!
2/meeting people socially and randomly hugging them when saying goodbye.
3/planning and organising things at the drop of a hat: yoga class, bus ride to keswick on bored afternoon, driving lessons (i never learned to drive and promised myself i'd learn this year).
4/being able to moan about a cafe being too full!

Sitting in a beer garden with the kids playing on a sunny day.
Hugging friends.
Wandering aimlessly around shops and treating myself/DC to random bits and pieces we come across.
Date night with DH to fancy restaurants in the closest city.
Hairdresser.
McDonald's.

Gah there's loads!

Lovelydovey · 29/05/2020 09:00

Time and space on my own without DH and the DC

My waistline. Before lockdown I was trying to lose a stone for a wedding which has now been postponed to next year so my incentive went... on the 16:9 diet now! But I miss hugging my parents or having family over. And it's been odd having bbqs just with the 4 of us so we're planning one with a couple of friends on Monday :-)

people and community - I am an ape after all!!!!!
family
theatre
church services
choirs listening and singing
community summer celebrations (schools, museums, parishes etc.)
pubs
literary meetings that take place in pubs (DH's work depends on that)
lectures and readings in book shops
courses and workshops
football

I miss getting my own share of leisure time in the family. Husband has hiking and golf back. Kids have cycling and meeting up with a mate back, eldest has school looming. My friends live further away so meeting up is not feasible due to toilets / cafes all closed, and the things I like (concerts, spas, weekends away) are all lost for the foreseeable. Very jealous! It’s only the youngest child who is missing playgrounds that shares the continued loss with me.

Kcnana · 29/05/2020 20:35

A day shopping - lunch out and a nice hot drink to finish.

Meals out.

A night at the cinema with family.

Holidays and weekend breaks on the South Coast.

Ah, I’m another one who suddenly gained some weight.
One of those skinny all my life until lockdown conundrums.
Haven’t eaten more, or upped the booze, but suddenly oddly flabby.

There’s more to be said for daily cardio than is let on about!

Being able to nip to the shop without queues outside
Petting other people's dogs/cats
New podcasts & TV - so many aren't recording now!

Musicforsmorks · 29/05/2020 20:56

I’m not a mum, but I have thought this must be really weird and difficult for small children. Most I’ve seen out and about have been brilliant. Much better behaved than us adults!

Being able to see my family.
I had a baby in January and all my in laws (my family aren't local) were very keen to see the baby often and I could talk to them about the things I worry about and his development but that's all gone now.

And not to be a downer but I mostly miss not being afraid. I have anxiety and recently now that everyone is easing up with the lockdown I'm feeling very tense when I see other people out walking.
I got my anxiety under control a few years ago but now it's just creeping back up on me.

Oh, and having well meaning strangers tell me my baby is adorable. I had a few weeks of that before the shit hit the fan and now obviously nobody is getting close. Everyone should know he is the most handsome boy. Smile

UnderTheBus · 29/05/2020 21:37

Watching my 3yo interact with other children.

UnderTheBus · 29/05/2020 21:38

@Lostvoiced the trick is to have your baby in a carrier rather than a pram. Then people can still see them from 2m away Grin

Mcmole · 29/05/2020 21:39

Picking DD up from school and going for ice cream or pancakes as a treat, or taking her to the bookshop for coffee, cakes and a new book.
