I felt insulted watching Matt Hancock, they have no respect for us.

Roussette · 28/05/2020 08:41

I think people imagine that Rishi and MattH are the best of a bad job.

Rishi let himself down massively yesterday in my book tweeting about how Nandos is opening. How patronising. Whilst I'm incensed about DC and how he might get away with it, he's tweeting about Nandos opening.
Laughable. A lot of the public are very angry.

SouthWestmom · 28/05/2020 08:43

That tweet was shocking.

I'm not surprised. They have all not a clue on how people are actually feeling.

The tweets and drip of opening things the more people don't accept their story and the Cummings situation the more it makes me realise they think we are so thick and can just be brought.

What they forget is most of us are just ordinary but integral intelligent people who don't live I a world where money talks. So cannot be brought.

Oldmrswasherwoman · 28/05/2020 08:50

I didn't see the briefing but did Matt Hancock say something about making the app compulsory if enough don't voluntarily? Is that the real end game behind all the DC story and why his excuses were so flaky? Rile up the public enough so people don't download the app and then enforce it, giving access to everyone's data? Or am I paranoid?

peridito · 28/05/2020 09:13

If it's compulsory they'll have to buy smart phones for people like me who don't have one .

1forsorrow · 28/05/2020 09:14

Will they supply everyone with a smart phone?

1forsorrow · 28/05/2020 09:14

Sorry cross post with peridito.

EducatingArti · 28/05/2020 09:36

No the app is not compulsory. Self isolating if you are contacted by a human being from Track and Trace is compulsory.
At the moment the app is a bit of a red herring.

Lemons1571 · 28/05/2020 09:46

The government must know that a certain % of people contacted by tracers will lie and say they have a cough. Then they can get a test and be back to work in 1-2 days. Even if they test positive that’s what, 2+7=9 days, plus it’s a more “valid” reason in the eyes of the employer. Both far less time than the 14 days asymptomatic with no pay.

Gov must just be hoping that they get a high enough % of people that will be scared enough to comply, that the flouters won’t make too much difference.

itsgettingweird · 28/05/2020 09:58

And there lemons you've completely summed up why their continual alienating if the British public over just 1 man is so damaging.

LarkDescending · 28/05/2020 10:02

I wonder how many testing positive will say that they had close contact with Cummings just so that he has to self-isolate for 14 days.

LarkDescending · 28/05/2020 10:04

*NB I am in no way suggesting that would be appropriate behaviour.

1forsorrow · 28/05/2020 10:08

I wonder how many testing positive will say that they had close contact with Cummings just so that he has to self-isolate for 14 days. I didn't think of that but I did think you could do it spitefully.

JackiFazaki · 28/05/2020 10:10

But very, very, tempting Lark.

LarkDescending · 28/05/2020 10:10

You could indeed do it maliciously, though I suspect it won’t happen in a significant way. More likely people will under-report their contacts as they know how unwelcome the phone call will be, especially to those who will lose 2 weeks’ earnings.

BJ's behaviour is clearly driven by DC advice: ignore plebs, don't apologize, move on, they have done it before, both are long time chums from Spectator days:

Let's not forget his zero responsibility in 2006 with the bomb cartoon:

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/media/2006/feb/02/newmedia.race

"He said the website did not have an editor but "the guy who has overall responsibility" was Dominic Cummings.

When contacted by MediaGuardian.co.uk, Mr Cummings declined to comment or confirm the nature of his responsibilities. "I have zero comment," he said."

Ipadipod · 28/05/2020 11:37

I’m not sure the testing is any good. My friend had Covid and was in hospital, when they tested negative they were discharged. They have taken ill again and have tested positive . So was the negative test inaccurate or is there no such thing as immunity?

Lucywilde · 28/05/2020 11:41

Anyone seen that Moron Hancock on Sky this morning? Laughing about the app. Apparently it’s a huge joke except no one else bar BJ, Gove and Hancock and his band of Merry idiots finds it funny. Appalling behaviour. The message is becoming so diluted because of the way these idiots are behaving.

I’d rather a briefing conducted by Whitty and Valance. I’d rather not see these utter morons on my screens again.

Crunchymum · 28/05/2020 11:43

Are Whitty and Vallance ever going to make another appearance? They were the only reason BJ appeared even minutely credible.

itsgettingweird · 28/05/2020 11:44

I fear Whitty Valance and Harries will take a huge step back now.

Tavannach · 28/05/2020 11:58

Looks like Kier S is calling for us to move in, he can't see a point in carrying on.

I think that's highly unlikely.

Cummings only ran his ludicrous story past us on Sunday. There's a lot to unpick there, not least that GlaxoSmithKline is located in Barnard Castle. GSK signed the contract to produce the vaccine on Tuesday 14 April, the day Cummings went back to work.

I'm sure Keir Starmer is turning the full power of his forensic legal brain on the Government and Dominic Cummings. He has to marshal the facts before he attacks.

Don't lose touch with your anger - use that energy.

Grin I had a hood wee jig round the kitchen to that one this morning.
