And answer questions today. I wonder if he's doing the briefing today with Bozo?!

I wonder how this will go?!

love the way hes blaming the media coverage of his actions as opposed to his actual actions.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 25/05/2020 16:56

@vera99
"WHILST INFECTED, WHILST INFECTED" etc. Nasty stammer you have there.

"Vera, you mentioned drugs yesterday too I believe?"
Oh, did she? I think it must be Vera on the drugs.

B1rdbra1n · 25/05/2020 16:56

I think he is coming across well, he's being polite and cooperative, he's not being defensive or arrogant.
Had he taken this approach at first he could have saved us all a huge amount of grief.
I still think he took the piss, but at least he is being prepared to account for himself.

SquishySquirmy · 25/05/2020 16:57

No better way to check your eyesight is fit for driving than driving to Durham castle.

That's what my driving examiner asked me to do at the beginning of my test!

Lemons1571 · 25/05/2020 16:57

I like this woman who’s questioning him now

Lemons1571 · 25/05/2020 16:58

Oh it’s the media’s fault

mooffie · 25/05/2020 16:58

it's all fake news!

twinnywinny14 · 25/05/2020 16:58

He is blaming the media for the reports they’ve done, he seems to think that his statement changes people’s minds about what he did

Surely one of the reasons you don't leave a Covid infection hotspot (knowing one of you has it) to drive to another part of the country is risk that one of you might have to go to hospital there, risking spreading it (exactly what happened)

Really? he is basically saying I do not regret anything at all. He broke the rules on more than one occasions, probably infected other people and drove to ‘test’ his frigging eyesight.
Do we really want someone this thick running Boris Johnson?

StealthPolarBear · 25/05/2020 16:59

Princess Di eyes

NotTerfNorCis · 25/05/2020 16:59

He's coming across as an ordinary bloke, lacking in confidence, who's overwhelmed by the situation.

Clearly there must be more to him than that or he wouldn't have got himself in that powerful position. But that other side of him isn't coming through.

OfUselessBooks · 25/05/2020 16:59

Puzzled...we were in a very similar position. My husband was very poorly and in bed for 3 days. Risk that I could become ill as well (and I have asthma). It didn't cross our minds to drive 150 miles to our parents' house. We would have muddled through like thousands of other families. We've done it before in different circumstances - we had a nasty bug a few years ago and could barely move. We took shifts laying on the sofa watching our toddler. Worst case scenario one of our parents would have driven to us.

Horsemad · 25/05/2020 17:00

He is an out and out liar.

HeIenaDove · 25/05/2020 17:01

Is this on BBC 1 as well as Sky

Horsemad · 25/05/2020 17:02

Yes.

Experimenopause · 25/05/2020 17:02

Clearly there must be more to him than that or he wouldn't have got himself in that powerful position
Based on that argument, Trump is the Einstein of our times. Grin

FourTeaFallOut · 25/05/2020 17:02

I love Gary Gibbon.

FecktheBoss · 25/05/2020 17:02

Hang on, so if Boris was so ill that he doesn't remember what was said, then WTF was he doing still handling things /in charge?

mooffie · 25/05/2020 17:02

He remembers nothing about his chat with Bojo but remembers every detail about his trip when he was under lots of pressure

BubblesBuddy · 25/05/2020 17:02

I think the interesting issue arising from this is that the public believed the three word slogans dreamed up by Cummings. He wrote the small print for small children. No one else appeared to. Does this make everyone else lemmings and a pushover for draconian measures? Possibly yes. Cummings knew a way out of his dilemma and took it. Other people didn’t know because three word slogans don’t permit it. No one told the rest of us. So the nation suffered. We need a better press, radio, analysis and clear information. Nothing was clear about looking after young children if you thought you might be ill. What a shambles. Who knew you could travel 260 miles for childcare? I suspect hardly anyone.

hamstersarse · 25/05/2020 17:02

I think he is coming across well. He is showing humility and I feel we will all know him a bit better rather than being this mysterious shadowy guy.

The crux for me in how he made his decision was that he was also getting harassment at home. That is unacceptable for anyone to have to put up with.

Chaosdragon · 25/05/2020 17:02

I feel quite sorry for the bloke tbh which has surprised me. He looks completely out his depth.

LiveintheNow · 25/05/2020 17:03

This is an act... he could read the prepared statement but stumbles hugely when questioned

HeIenaDove · 25/05/2020 17:03

Gary Gibbon is fab. Channel 4 news tonight will be a must watch
