Dominic Cummings using his child's autism as an excuse

Almahart · 25/05/2020 04:01

So it looks as if the next excuse to be wheeled out is that Dominic Cumming's child is autistic.

My child is autistic. I know many families with autistic children.

This is what I have heard of happening for these families during Coronavirus:

  • no school (yes I know schools should be taking vulnerable children. But many are not)
  • no respite
  • no transport to school even if they are open
  • regular activities cancelled
  • the fear that provision provided by local authorities through Education Health and Care Plans and suspended under the Coronavirus Act will slowly disappear

I know of many single parents alone with their child who are seriously struggling and who did not break the rules during lockdown.

To use autism as an excuse is beyond low. It is revolting and has made me even angrier than I was before

Don’t get me started, I am absolutely furious waking up to this today.

I think this tweet may have been the start of it - from someone who works in a specialist school, has a child with ASD and... is a tory candidate.

How dare anyone use their child’s disability in this way? I have 3YO twins with ASD and other disabilities. I don’t have any aides or relatives nearby. Lockdown has nearly broken me mentally and has definitely broken me physically. And I am still at home.

If all he was doing was getting shopping dropped off on his doorstep (allegedly) I’m sure one of the many Westminster aides could have done that for him.

This is despicable manipulation but they’ve been very careful to ensure it hasn’t come from him directly.

MadameMarie · 25/05/2020 07:41

I think he just didn't want them all to be cooped up in a London flat for several weeks, so rushed off to the countryside.

How many Londoners at the start of lockdown (and particularly in the week before) rushed off to their second homes? It was a big thing.

BGD2012 · 25/05/2020 07:43

I saw the asd thing popping up on social media yesterday and I wondered why Boris alluded to medical issues in his press briefing. I have a son with an adhd and autism diagnosis and have followed the rules like most people. I've no idea if his son has it but it sounds like an attempt to muddy the waters.

Lumene · 25/05/2020 07:43

Where is the link to him saying this please?

Arnold106 · 25/05/2020 07:46

You really shouldn’t speak for other people! Autism is a wide Spectrum !

zen1 · 25/05/2020 07:46

Why is this arsehole allowed to wield so much power and not be held accountable for his actions? I hope everyone remembers this and Boris’s defence of him when it comes to the next election.

SinkGirl · 25/05/2020 07:46

He hasn’t said it. As far as I can see it originated from this tweet, from a conservative candidate and SEN teacher

Dominic Cummings using his child's autism as an excuse
Arnold106 · 25/05/2020 07:47

Exactly

Smileyoriley · 25/05/2020 07:49

I know many families with children on the spectrum- one being a single parent who is struggling alone with her son, and not one has flouted the guidelines (dreamt up by this Charlatan) in the selfish, irresponsible way demonstrated by Cummings. This excuse is a insult to the nation, particularly families who have children with additional needs..

Aridane · 25/05/2020 07:49

I’m not a fan, nor do I protest to know all the details, but frankly if you are helping run the country, your wife is sick, do you not think he predicted needing some assistance? Or to potentially isolate his child if he wasn’t already infected? We can all spout individual situations, and I do think he broke the rules Which is wrong. But he’s part of a few individuals trying to run our country under extreme and unprecedented circumstances. We need him available and well.

We need these handfuls of people to run the lives of millions. Why did he travel that far unless for altruistic reasons? I have no idea, but I doubt it was for fun or any reason other than to protect his child, and himself - ultimately to assist running our country for the greater good.

😂😂😂😂😂

romatheroamer · 25/05/2020 07:52

I get the impression that the few people who are not angry about this and are defending the indefensible were opposed to or disregarded the lockdown anyway. Which is beyond irony, because they are defending the people who imposed it!

LifeMatters · 25/05/2020 07:53

He fucked up big time and he shows no remorse. That's worse!!!
Boris fucked up even more by supporting him! The government is a fraud :-/

ilovemydogandMrObama · 25/05/2020 07:53

Funny how DC is being referred to as, 'advisor...'

Why isn't being called what he is: Spin Doctor

So much of this pandemic relies on public confidence and we have this arrogant unelected man sitting on cabinet meetings, and SAGE.

Normally would have a rant about the Tory party, but there seems to be cross party support.

Smartcasual · 25/05/2020 07:54

This headline appeared in the Manchester Evening News less than a fortnight before DC headed up the motorway.

Sertchgi123 · 25/05/2020 07:58

The press have reached an all time low in this country. Don’t people realise they are being manipulated?

Tenebrae · 25/05/2020 07:59

Where is the reference to his child being autistic. I haven't seen it in the media yet?

LifeMatters · 25/05/2020 08:00

@Sertchgi123 manipulated how may I ask? Do you think they are lying and DC is innocent?

twinnywinny14 · 25/05/2020 08:00

@Sertchgi123 how so? DC has admitted what he did. And many people believe that his actions broke the rules

ShadowyFigure · 25/05/2020 08:03

If everyone had to cite mitigating factors as to why the stay at home order doesn’t apply in their situation should anyone in their family have CV19 symptoms, there would have been no lockdown. Just about everyone I can think of amongst my family and friends have good reason to set aside the rules to get support from others or to give support themselves - kids who are autistic, kids with chronic conditions, adults with chronic conditions, women about to give birth, family with dementia who are extra confused and disoriented due to lockdown, people in one bed flats who can’t isolate if sick, key workers concerned about infecting others. The list goes on.

Didkdt · 25/05/2020 08:04

At the risk of throwing in established facts

  1. he was being supported by his sister and nieces in a separate residence, NOT his parents

  2. The garden thing according to his mother was him playing with his son.

  3. HE hasn't said his son has autism

I think the health issues alluded to are his not his son's. There were reports of him needing life saving surgery last year.

TheGreatWave · 25/05/2020 08:05

I am not a fan of Cummings but what other reason could there have been for this move of location other than the care of his child

Taking a wild stab in the dark here, but he wanted to, so he did?

FreeKitties · 25/05/2020 08:08

I often wonder how on earth people used to attend public executions, or how witch burnings or mob justice /lynch mobs ever happened, then I look at social media and see that people really like judging others, and egging each other on validates those judgements.

FWIW My son has ASD and ADHD, and a huge lesson I’ve learned as part of that is not to judge other parents decisions.

Sertchgi123 · 25/05/2020 08:10

The journalists are all over this, it’s all they wanted to talk about at the briefing. During the briefing, the BBC Journalist couldn’t get his sound on, so he had two different assistants right up close and personal, fixing his problem. How ironic is that?

Oh so that’s different, the guy is a journalist, not a politician.

It’s a wonder anyone wants to go into politics in this country.

HarrietM87 · 25/05/2020 08:12

@Sertchgi123 Dominic Cummings isn’t a politician. He’s an unelected spin doctor who has shown himself as the hypocrite he has always been. Getting someone to fix your sound mic in the course of your job is hardly comparable to flagrantly breaching the lockdown rules you devised.

Frouby · 25/05/2020 08:14

I had a Plan B should me and dh be hospitalized due to C19. My cousin who lives locally was going to come and stay here with the dcs and self isolate for 14 days in my house with my children.

I didn't like Bojo before this. Sort of was relieved it was him rather than JC when this shitshow started. Got worried when he was ill, then as time has gone on have, like many others, am rapidly loosing my patience with him.

Last night Bojo might as well have said Fuck You All, we will do what we want, you will do as I say.

My mum is heartbroken she hasn't seen the grandchildren for months. Peoples livelihoods have been lost. My dd missed sitting her GCSEs which she has worked towards. My kids have lost their school, friends, hobbies, sports and activities to abide by the rules.

Then this fucking pair of absolute wankerbastards break the rules spectacularly and one covers for the other. I don't know what DomCunt has on Bojo but it must be something substantial.
