Dominic Cummings using his child's autism as an excuse

Almahart · 25/05/2020 04:01

So it looks as if the next excuse to be wheeled out is that Dominic Cumming's child is autistic.

My child is autistic. I know many families with autistic children.

This is what I have heard of happening for these families during Coronavirus:

  • no school (yes I know schools should be taking vulnerable children. But many are not)
  • no respite
  • no transport to school even if they are open
  • regular activities cancelled
  • the fear that provision provided by local authorities through Education Health and Care Plans and suspended under the Coronavirus Act will slowly disappear

I know of many single parents alone with their child who are seriously struggling and who did not break the rules during lockdown.

To use autism as an excuse is beyond low. It is revolting and has made me even angrier than I was before

I’d love to know why the BBC news never mentioned the birthday party, with Abba music playing. I think if that did happen, it would have been mentioned on the news. That was just a garbled rumour, which I’ve never seen anywhere else other than on Mumsnet.

I’m no fan of Cummings, and I agree that his child having autism had nothing to do with it. I’ve been very unwell with COVID-19 symptoms and DH and I have 2 adopted DDs of 11 and 8, and DD1 has SEN. We had no help and didn’t ask for any.

If there is actual evidence of this birthday party, why haven’t the government been asked about it?

FliesandPies · 28/05/2020 15:02

this should be about facts first and remain unemotional, or judgement is seen to be clouded. DC is a SpAd, not elected, not in Cabinet, shouldn't be a public figure although his detractors have seen fit to propel him into the public arena probably for their own ends

He has been propelled into the public arena because Boris Johnson has placed him at the top and the heart of government. Do you think someone should have such power and remain unknown?

He's clever enough to realise that in spite of the fact that he is not a public figure, he has so few friends and so many enemies in government and the civil service that he will definitely become one, therefore he has to behave as if he is one

Ask yourself, why does he have so few friends/so many enemies in his workplace?

But I do think it is a shame that all this public vilification discourages talented people from going into politics

People who believe they are above accountability and have contempt for the people they are supposed to serve - we can do without them, no matter how 'talented' they are supposed to be.

MeganBacon · 28/05/2020 15:41

He and his decisions and recommendations shouldn't be hidden away from public scrutiny.
There are lots of SpAds and if he is scrutinised, so should they all be. I would struggle to name another current SpAd without googling it. Generally the minister they work for takes the fallout from their work, and what they do in their private life is irrelevant, they are no more under public scrutiny than any other member of the public. They are just people doing a job. He is treated very differently so it's a grey area which has only been thrust into the limelight because his enemies have thrust it there. That's the entertaining thing about this whole saga. Yes he has lots of enemies because he's an "agent for change" .

You've said that already. Still not true.

Fine by me

I would struggle to name another current SpAd without googling it

And that's just because Barney Castle has 'enemies'. got it.

Peregrina · 28/05/2020 16:08

He's been thrust into the limelight because he almost certainly broke the law, and hasn't got the integrity to resign. There would be no story if he hadn't gone running up to Durham in the first place.

MeganBacon · 28/05/2020 17:26

He was in the limelight long before this. Benedict Cumberbatch portrayed him in a TV drama quite a while ago.

Well obviously no-one's opinions will change as a result of being spoken to aggressively on a mumsnet thread, so let's just wait and see what happens.

Peregrina · 28/05/2020 18:01

How many people bothered to watch Benedict Cumberbatch as Cummings?

FliesandPies · 28/05/2020 18:08

You're arguing against yourself - you claim he was propelled into the public arena by means of his enemies, now you point out that he was well known enough to be portrayed in a tv drama. He was well-known because he was heavily involved with the Brexit campaign before he achieved ultimate power with Bozo.

So. Still not true.

I was going to explain it again, but tell you what, if it makes you happy, then believe that.

If SpAds are meant to be behind the scenes and their ministers take the fall out of any decisions then doesn't that make it that Boris has also failed spectacularly by allowing him to become the story along long him for his actions during lockdown?

Peregrina · 28/05/2020 19:48

Boris seems to be unable to realise by showing how much he is in Cummings' pocket, that he is exposing how weak he is a PM. It might not matter, he's become PM, that's his ambition achieved, so he probably wants to stand down and let someone else do the tedious business of leading the country.

ButteryPuffin · 28/05/2020 20:11

It was Tim Shipman writing about him in All Out War that brought him to public attention. I'd never heard of him before that. Is Tim Shipman his enemy then?

I first heard of him being very unpopular when working on education reform for Michael Gove, long before Brexit. Enemy is a fairly dramatic word but I assume there is no love lost between Shipman and DC. Like I said, he has always been in the public eye more than other SpAds because his approach puts noses out of joint.

MeganBacon · 28/05/2020 21:17

I should add, people who work directly for him have said very good things about him. People who get in his way, less so.

Evidence please as what you are claiming is total hearsay and unprovable.

Are you saying any social media platform that allows any criticism of him to be aired will be targeted?
Because it’s been implied imo

Ulver · 28/05/2020 21:29

Cummings is just another establishment coat tail rider posing as a “disrupter” fantasising that he’s Neo In the Matrix when he’s married into privilege, reinforces the status Quo and enables the worst kind of prejudice and discrimination in real life.
It’s really tiresome.
As are all his “friends” implying that if you kiss his ass you will be rewarded.

He’s not a knight of the realm handing out favours, he’s an asset stripper stealing our Personal data To sell to the highest bidder ( and most probably our enemies) As it’s the last tangible valuable asset that is left to steal from the public in this country.

MeganBacon · 28/05/2020 21:43

Two people known to me have personal experience working for him. Yes this is hearsay. But it was widely reported in the press around the time he was advertising for "weirdos and misfits" too.

I'm sure I didn't say that and don't understand the comment, please explain.

“Known to you”
Please elaborate as that is extremely disingenuous.

MeganBacon · 28/05/2020 21:49

I won't do that because it is too revealing. Just disbelieve me if you are more comfortable? Surely you were reading reliable press around the time he was advertising for weirdos and misfits and read that too?

Ulver · 28/05/2020 21:52

I’m imagining you met them aT a middle age nerds club that identifies with proud boys and Redpill Incel culture.
Prove me wrong.
I’m waiting.

😂😂😂😂😂😂
