Not so much a car crash as a multi car pike up on the M1.

SabrinaThwaite · 25/05/2020 17:44

He keeps reading out the bit on the Gov.UK info on self-isolation (although he seems to think it was on the NHS website):

Keep following this advice to the best of your ability, however, we are aware that not all these measures will be possible.

What we have seen so far is that children with coronavirus (COVID-19) appear to be less severely affected. It is nevertheless important to do your best to follow this guidance.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection#if-you-are-living-with-children

This was updated on 18th May, I don't know when the bit about living with small children was added. I read the version towards the end of March, when DS and I had to self-isolate for a week. I don't remember it being there then.

Viviennemary · 25/05/2020 17:45

Testing his eyesight. So if he crashed the car and injured or killed somebody then he could conclude that he shouldn't have driven. You couldn't make it up.

wowfudge · 25/05/2020 17:45

The table was carefully chosen, as was the open neck shirt with the sleeves rolled up. All to try to show he is not special.

GrimmsFairytales · 25/05/2020 17:45

Not so much a car crash as a multi car pike up on the M1.

Caused by one idiot trying to test his eyesight Wink

AKissAndASmile · 25/05/2020 17:46

Well I cannot imagine any of the last four PMs or Nick Clegg making such a pig's ear of the issue as Boris did yesterday. Today's shit show would not have happened

Yes, it's astonishing. Why didn't Boris do this yesterday?

Dom must have been like 'FFS, I'll do it...just like I do everything around here. 🙄'

Focusanddetermination · 25/05/2020 17:48

I think the basic message here is still the same - i/we can lie to you, we will lie to you and we believe we can and will get away with it.

On this basis, there is not a single thing about this government that I can / will trust

SabrinaThwaite · 25/05/2020 17:49

He's going to get away with it. Fucker.

vera99 · 25/05/2020 17:50

David Ross
@DaveRoss86
I feel sorry for that Professor who lost his job for shagging during the lockdown. He should've just said he was worried his penis had stopped working and he wanted to double check.

alreadytaken · 25/05/2020 17:50

Had to switch off the tv, it was so cringe making. His actions were neither responsible or legal, whatever the police are forced to say. His niece should have come to him, although I doubt she'll be willing to do that in future.

Apologist now on tv saying we'll feel sorry for him because he had to face a pack of journalists. Sorry, doesnt change a thing.

GrimmsFairytales · 25/05/2020 17:51

I would still love to see guidance he is claiming to have followed, regarding exercising your judgement with children.

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 25/05/2020 17:52

As a poster said earlier on, it is really clear that he thinks the government can not run without him.

It is interesting when he said that he cant come to Boris with every single decision. But surely his jobs to advise - not to make decisions.

I cant think when an elected minister has ever had such an opportunity to explain his actions.

What is really clear is how much power he has and that feels do wrong for an unelected official.

SabrinaThwaite · 25/05/2020 17:53

Oh and the previous section on the guidance that he kept quoting the small child "exemption" says:

It is very important that individuals with symptoms that may be due to coronavirus (COVID-19) and their household members stay at home. Staying at home will help control the spread of the virus to friends, the wider community, and particularly the most vulnerable.

Those with symptoms and living alone should remain at home for at least 7 days after the onset of their symptoms (see ending self-isolation below). This will reduce the risk of you infecting others.

If you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms that may be caused by coronavirus (COVID-19), then household members must stay at home and not leave your house for 14 days (more information in the ending self-isolation section below). If possible, you should not go out even to buy food or other essentials, and any exercise should be taken within your home. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in your house became ill.

Note it says you must stay at home and not leave the house.

TopperSail · 25/05/2020 17:54

I posted 'Ridiculous cheat' yesterday and yet today was ready to listen open-minded, give the benefit of the doubt and at first I was taken in by his demeanor, the stuttering and the quiet innocence but then my gut instinct kicked in partly because I know that trick.
DC seems to me to be a very angry man underneath, an intelligent, powerful man who took great care to adopt the right tone that would appeal most to the British public, one which I guess his acquaintances would not have seen a lot of before.
No I don't trust him and I think he's laughing his arse off.

minou123 · 25/05/2020 17:54

Is the normal daily briefing still on today?

YogaLite · 25/05/2020 17:55

Does he wants to be sacked to get a payoff which he wouldn't get if he resigned?

Redolent · 25/05/2020 17:55

He’s engineered this whole fucking theatre.

GrimmsFairytales · 25/05/2020 17:56

Is the normal daily briefing still on today?

Yes, and shockingly BJ is there again.

Redolent · 25/05/2020 17:56

You can see how much shit he’s got on people when the obsolete former advisor go Cameron calls it a witch-hunt.

NewAccountForCorona · 25/05/2020 17:57

Surely a journalist will search the archived version to see what guidelines were in place on 28th March - I don't remember any reference to children Confused

itsgettingweird · 25/05/2020 17:58

We don't need journalists or anyone else to zip through guidance and laws and rules.

Keir Starmer can do that. And if he does that then the media cannot be blamed as being on a witch hunt.

GrimmsFairytales · 25/05/2020 17:59

I don't remember any reference to children

At this time, I still think there was confusion about children visiting other parents if they were from a separated family.

So I would love to see the use your own discretion part that DC keeps speaking about.

HeIenaDove · 25/05/2020 18:00

So basically, what he’s saying, is that parents can drive any distance in order to access childcare as they see fit

If this was actually IN the guidance many childless/childfree ppl would have kicked off about it.

I think we can all imagine that A&E staff have heard more convincing explanations from people who arrive with Hoover nozzles jammed up their hole
