They've said the reports about the second trip are lies and they won't be commenting on the matter any more.

ie they've stuck their fingers in their ears and walked away going lalala after calling major UK news publications liars.

They have also stated that the Durham constabulary are lying which is Shock tbh

Viviennemary · 24/05/2020 13:18

Let's have an election and kick the lot of them out.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/05/2020 13:29

So ... who’s been supporting Cummings today? Who has a squeaky bum tonight?

All of them, probably
Have you ever met a genuinely principled politician, at least one who's been at it much time? I've known quite a few who started off that way, but once they start climbing the greasy pole they learn fast that integrity's a luxury they can't afford

TossaCointoYerWitcher · 24/05/2020 13:31

Let's have an election and kick the lot of them out.

That's the thing though, isn't it? They've got a majority and the next election isn't until 2024. So they feel able to say "yeah, shout all you like, there's sweet FA you can do about it".

Probably think by 2024 the whole thing will be old news and we'll have forgotten about it.

In fairness, our local Tory MP came out with a statement condemning Cummings today and asking for him to go. I didn't vote for him, but my respect for him just went up.

Yes, unfortunately the bloody Labour Party decided to vote in a leader who might make them electable again, just after the general election.

Meaning we are stuck with this absolute shower of shite for another 4 years.

Viviennemary · 24/05/2020 13:52

I'm sorry I voted Tory. I wouldn't have if Labour had a decent leader like they have now. They've only got themselves to blame.

A brave man on the face of it ... I wonder if he's planning on standing down at the next election anyway? Wink

There’s a van outside his house from the Donkeys playing a video of BJ delivering the stay at home message. news.sky.com/video/video-truck-appears-outside-cummings-house-11993882

Inkpaperstars · 25/05/2020 01:05

Must be fun times living on that street!

PotholeParadise · 25/05/2020 01:21

I hope that their house is big enough that their son isn't hearing his father being shouted at, though.

Inkpaperstars · 25/05/2020 01:54

Yes, agree Pothole. If not time to take him back to Durham I think. Safeguarding.

HauntedHats · 25/05/2020 02:06

Boo for Boris has been trending on twitter...
Cummings and goings must be the most hated neighbour in the Country judging by the footage.

PotholeParadise · 25/05/2020 03:01

Probably.

I'm not sure I've ever seen such mismanagement of the public before on the part of someone who is supposed to be a master of manipulation. Is he trying to get sacked for a bit while he works on his novel?

If I had been him, I would not have travelled to Durham, but if I had, I would have avoided being seen! People have been naming and shaming neighbours for not turning out on Thursdays to Clap for the NHS, and the doofus got seen all over the country. If he had avoided being seen out-and-about, he could have handled this with a "in retrospect it was a misjudgment but at the time we weren't thinking clearly and we panicked about how our son would cope". Coupled with something admiring and respectful of how other parents had kept it together and coped since, I think that would have flown with 51-52% of the British public. Neighbours might have continued to take in his parcels, even.

However, being seen, coupled with Boris' atrocious briefing on live TV must surely be how-not-to-do-it.

PotholeParadise · 25/05/2020 03:04

And most importantly, those of us who didn't accept the excuse would have moved on from it reasonably quickly. But I am NEVER going to forget Boris nattering about the instincts of a father.

Inkpaperstars · 25/05/2020 03:05

the briefing made things so much worse Grin it was strangely apt that all the technology kept going wrong too.

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 25/05/2020 03:49

I'm no fan of Cummings but this is getting boring now as just about everybody I know has broken lock-down rules. Its a media feeding frenzie and a stick to hit Boris with. Personally I can't be arsed to join in with that. I'm more interested in the problems with schools , carehomes, routine NHS care backlog and what more can be done regarding effective treatment and a vaccine. I'm looking for progress not some puerile, playground, snot fight.

whenwillthemadnessend · 25/05/2020 08:05

I agree primrose.

Cummings should have done the decent thing and resigned but I can't be doing with the baying for blood.

His time will come . The public will never vote for him now. Boris may have saved his ass once but the public won't forget.

Iggi999 · 25/05/2020 09:20

When did the public vote for Cummings? Confused

Dozer · 25/05/2020 09:23

The matters are related, primrose. Cummings has a senior, paid government role, including to formulate policies on Covid, the types of matters you list.

Helmetbymidnight · 25/05/2020 09:42

Boris has effectively undermined his whole public health policy. I appreciate thats boring and you'd rather concentrate on more progressive things, but it IS quite a big deal.

Telling everyone they misunderstood the meaning of 'stay at home' is quite a curious tactic. Boris has shown again he is untrustworthy - and unfortunately this has a massive knock on effect to all his policies whether its schools, carehomes, or the NHS which depend on trust.

MsSafina · 25/05/2020 09:44

I don't see Boris lasting the five year term. We know how ruthless the Tories are at replacing leaders. My money is on Sunak to replace him.

whenwillthemadnessend · 25/05/2020 09:45

My mistake. He isn't an MP

Well as I said. He should do the decent thing and go.

Give it time.

BeardedMum · 25/05/2020 09:49

I think both BJ also needs to go. It was the instincts of a fatherline for me too

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/05/2020 09:54

it was strangely apt that all the technology kept going wrong too

Not really - it had probably been pre-arranged, so that if things got really difficult the whole briefing could be pulled
