Seen running out of Downing Street
Went to self isolate with his wife in Durham with his parents when he had symptoms
Seems he had his family with him
He stayed with his wife and his parents looked after the children

One rule for us, one rule for him

Has this all come out now to detract from the food standards thing which has had practically no coverage or comment? If it has, I fell for itSad

PP is wrong that there's no other news. There is, we're just not hearing about it or talking about it.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 14:15

It does appear to have Michael Gove or his wife's hands all over this ..
They love a bout of back stabbing antics!

JacobReesMogadishu · 23/05/2020 14:16

Mr and Mrs gove have a touch of the Macbeths about them for sure.

B1rdbra1n · 23/05/2020 14:17

Trump also very clearly showed us his workings, people weren't ready for him but they will be now

LarkDescending · 23/05/2020 14:20

He just wants to be with his family, right?

Of course. That important caveat to lockdown: you can’t travel to your family unless you want to be with them, in which case you can.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 23/05/2020 14:21

He just wants to be with his family, right?

Don’t we all?

GeorgeTheFirst · 23/05/2020 14:25

It's vile and he should be sacked. Today.

Nihiloxica · 23/05/2020 14:41

This is the first thing that has ever made me like Dominic Cummings.

This stupid, pointless lockdown needs to end.

KrakowDawn · 23/05/2020 14:46

The crazy thing is that an entire country allowed itself to be distanced from family for months on end

No @Nihiloxica, an entire country distanced in order to shield the vulnerable and protect the NHS from collapsing as happened in Northern Italy.

It is abhorrent that the person who drafted the legislation that forced people to stay in their homes treats it with such contempt. He has behaved despicably, yet thinks he does not need to resign.
The rules are clear: if you have symptoms do NOT leave your home. People in your household also may not leave your home.
The childcare excuse is arrant nonsense, a glib lie to assuage the press and any citizens that dare speak up about his transgression.

olivesandolives · 23/05/2020 14:51

*I dont see what all the fuss is about. He justs wants to be with his family right?

Media stirring trouble as there isnt any other news at the moment

Do you understand what lockdown is? What it's for? I mean my mind boggles at this post.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 14:57

What does this Dominic Cummings do ?
I admit that ' new' labour liked spin doctors etc but I'm always puzzled by all these hanger on types!? He seems very seedy to me but as I'm not sure what his ' job ' is apart from breaking rules he was making himself , what has he got on people? Why do they even need them on the pay roll?
Who is he really?

PotholeParadise · 23/05/2020 15:02

Nihiloxica

So, if your boss, with whom you'd worked very closely, had tested positive for coronavirus, and you were also developing symptoms, would you knowingly risk infecting other people with it?

Nihiloxica · 23/05/2020 15:05

Dominic Cummings is a total shit. We all know that.

But he has done us the massive favour of showing that lockdown is a load of bullshit.

AlandAnna · 23/05/2020 15:11

Pretty sure a good few people will do what the hell they need to now and ‘don’t care how it looks’

If he doesn’t resign the government will lose any credibility they had left.

greenlynx · 23/05/2020 15:24

@JetSetGo

I dont see what all the fuss is about. He justs wants to be with his family right?

His wife was unwell with Coronavirus already and he himself started showing symptoms so they all should stay in self- isolation.
It’s not a question who wants what, he should follow rules as everyone else.

Nihiloxica · 23/05/2020 15:26

Pretty sure a good few people will do what the hell they need to now and ‘don’t care how it looks’

I know, thank goodness.

Living in a country full of lockdown enthusiasts is really horrible.

I mean the real die hards will still keep insisting that life should never be normal or fun every again, but most of us can speed up getting back to normal.

The URL auto-created by Change here is quite poignant.

jasjas1973 · 23/05/2020 15:35

@Nihiloxica

Agree, lets get the UK to the very top of the european death toll league table and put the GREAT back into BRITAIN.

Too many oldies in the UK as it is but they certainly shouldn't be allowed to die alone, with no family near, so relaxing that particular lockdown restriction will help enormously in getting our death rate up, i mean limiting PPE has helped but we need a more concerted effort to get to number 1.

I shall certainly be going to my partners Nan's funeral in early june... the more the merrier!!!!

olivesandolives · 23/05/2020 15:46

@nihiloxica

You seem vehemently opposed to lockdown, how would you have minimised the already massive death toll?

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 23/05/2020 15:55

Helmet not everyone who voted for Brexit is defending this. I don't know anyone who would and I know a lot of people who voted to leave the EU. Agreeing with a politician on one issue does not equal defending everything they do. Particularly when they've done something as awful as this. And it's made worse by him throwing Ferguson under the bus when he knew he'd done something much more awful.

NoHardSell · 23/05/2020 15:59

Maybe we could have organised care home workers better, trained them up on ppe (oh, alongside all the other stuff like buying ppe, tracking and tracing, quarantining in March, tested them weekly)
Most transmission and deaths are in carehomes and hospitals. Just focus on that and follow Sweden on the rest

What a lot of crap this lockdown is. There's a mass hysteria event happening. How ridiculous.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/05/2020 16:09

I've been mulling the necessary and sufficient conditions for dealing with this crisis. Looking at countries and areas that seem to have controlled infection. Best things to have:

A trusted government or at least one that allows trusted people to lead
A woman in charge or in charge of the response
Vaguely left-wing/centrist without being too left
A national culture of voluntary adherence to guidance rather than a childish desire to break rules
Clear guidance based on science which changes in a very transparent way when new data comes forward
Decent media

Second best:

A totalitarian government that will lock you down
Plenty of army or police to enforce
Fear of consequences of breaking lock down
State controlled media

Worst:

A completely untrustworthy and untrusted government
A privileged right-wing man in charge of a self-interested right-wing government
Orders rather than guidance based on bollocks
Confusion and confused orders
A population that is not cohesive or rule-bound
A media that is utterly shit, in the pocket of ruling elite or plain batshit

Correlation rather than causation of course and we will see how New Zealand, Kerala, BC, Taiwan and others come out of this. And being a rule bound nation is a worry for fascism in different times. But having an unelected, right-wing toady behind the scenes who appears to be entirely unaccountable and teflon... not good

HeIenaDove · 23/05/2020 16:24

Fair enough, people don't like him but I can't see how this can be compared to Neil Ferguson persuading his mistress to travel to see him for sex

Well im assuming neither his or her elderly parents were there as well watching them while eating popcorn Hmm
