Surely everyone who was going to die from corona will do eventually

Unless we all stay locked up at home forever or unless a vaccination or cure is discovered.

OP posts:
TheHonestTruth100 · 21/05/2020 09:29

There will be thousands of people who survived corona thanks to being on a ventilator. Whole point of the lockdown was to stop NHS being overwhelmed to the point they don't have enough beds/ventilators for people who would then die as a result when they wouldn't otherwise.

So in answer so the question in your original post. Not at all.

antipodalpizza · 21/05/2020 09:29

I’ve always believed that if your numbers up your numbers up. So I don’t believe people die too soon - it was their time

So who determines that time? How can it be their time if they are killed in an accident or murdered?

IncrediblySadToo · 21/05/2020 09:31

What rock have you been under this past few weeks?

Crazy statement. We are ALL going to die...eventually, some of us aren't in a hurry for that to be this month despite having diabetes or whatever. FFS

Nihiloxica · 21/05/2020 09:33

If you don't care about people who will die of Covid19, why do you care about people who will die of poverty instead? Because you feel immune to the 1st but the 2nd might affect you?

Grin

This definitely works in reverse.

People who couldn't give a shite about the certain deaths of vulnerable children locked up with abusers as long as they get to keep their own children at home, away from the risks of being a child in a society, for as long as possible.

glitterwobbles · 21/05/2020 09:34

@JudgeRindersMinder. So sorry to hear about your Dad. All my thoughts are with you.❤

incognitomum · 21/05/2020 09:35

No.

I know of at least 3 people who have had covid19 and on paper they should have died. One is late 80s and had lung cancer last year. One has a very poor immune system and is already on oxygen. Another is very obese diabetic and has asthma and is male. All had covid19 and all are ok now.

PafLeChien · 21/05/2020 09:36

Nihiloxica
facilities for these children are opened just as usual,
and these kids are hardly immune themselves.

iVampire · 21/05/2020 09:36

no the shielding or vulnerable should remain in lockdown

Do that’s at least 1/3 of the country (based on number of flu jabs the NHS buys every year)

I think that’ll be enough to wreck the economy in a far more comprehensive and long lasting way than a phased whole-population approach

bellinisurge · 21/05/2020 09:37

What a charming op.

MajorasMask · 21/05/2020 09:38

My husband is 29, and he has been healthy since an operation at 16 to remove part of his intestine for Crohn’s disease. It really upsets me that some people think if he caught this and died it would be his time and he was going to die anyway, because it’s completely untrue. He has a normal life expectancy with the disease in remission as long as he takes his immunosuppressants and gets blood tests. He’s shielding and I’m doing everything to keep him safe.

Shielding people are not all elderly with multiple conditions. Lots of them are children for example.

I don’t know why I’ve bothered replying but it does really get to me that if he did die, there are people who would feel it was ‘fair enough’ Sad

Auntlouisa · 21/05/2020 09:39

It was their time.
What a load of nonsense.

PhoneLock · 21/05/2020 09:40

So who determines that time? How can it be their time if they are killed in an accident or murdered?

How they die makes no difference. It was their time.

incognitomum · 21/05/2020 09:41

Please everyone don't rise to the insensitive cunts.

PhoneLock · 21/05/2020 09:42

Time to die

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 21/05/2020 09:42

My daughter is 14 years old. She has cerebral palsy. I know the image of her that you and people like you instantly bring to mind as soon as I said that. You couldn't be more wrong. She lives a full, happy life - witty, kind and genuinely one of the nicest people I have ever known. The idea that she is just collateral in this disgusts me

greathat · 21/05/2020 09:43

Everybody dies..... got REM in my head now. You know there have been people (inc kids) dying without pre existing conditions right OP?

nether · 21/05/2020 09:43

"Shielding people are not all elderly with multiple conditions. Lots of them are children for example."

They're not particularly likely to be elderly, as age is not a criterion

MangosteenSoda · 21/05/2020 09:44

Not really. More people who get very sick will have a higher chance of surviving with better medical care. And fewer people will catch it.

But, going forward, I do think society needs to support people with high risk factors because they will continue to be at risk until they are vaccinated.

I don't think this has been properly addressed yet. It's mostly presented in the media as an 'all or nothing' approach. We can't continue in lockdown indefinitely - for a huge number of reasons. But we can't return to normal - for the very obvious reason. So there has to be some kind of halfway house where the majority of people do more stuff in an adapted way and vulnerable people are protected.

And that can't just mean telling lots of people to stay home alone for months then forgetting all about them. I think it will take a huge effort from the whole society for a long time yet.

Chillipeanuts · 21/05/2020 09:44

sunshineanddaffodils

It’s just all the people who are being so reluctant to move on from lockdown, healthy people unwilling to put themselves in any situation that isn’t 100% risk free. I appreciate it’s a obvious statement but it’s as if they think it will magically go away.“

Don’t think so. It’s only been 8 weeks. Very few people think it will magically go away but they appreciate that the longer they are able to keep themselves safe, the greater the chances of effective treatments to reduce symptoms or ultimately a vaccine.

My 80 year old mother is incredible. Vegetarian, no car, walks everywhere, no medications whatsoever, 1 filling (Grin), no assistance of any kind, just not needed. Her female relatives have on the whole celebrated their 100th and I’ve no doubt she will too.
She’s quite happy to live very quietly and take every care for another year, because it will probably give her another productive 20. She’s no less worthy than a younger person.

If you don’t need/want to, that’s entirely your business.

CovidicusRex · 21/05/2020 09:46

Well they may not if a vaccine/treatment is developed. But yes, if nothing changes then (provided that the outbreak continues to be managed within nhs capacity) the total death toll will probably be the same regardless of how long it takes to get there. Hopefully it won’t come to that though.

NiceViper · 21/05/2020 09:47

It's amazing how many utterly cold-hearted threads there are, exposing the highest death rates.

Anyone would think we had a Government that simply didn't care about the economy and was from a Party with a track record of cold hard cash ahead of social, inclusion. Hang on a moment..l

antipodalpizza · 21/05/2020 09:48

So when I specified DNR and palliative care only very recently, I decided that it was their time then?

It's never their time.

Blueberryham · 21/05/2020 09:48

It’s so frustrating people think like the op and cannot be budged at all to think from another viewpoint 😟

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 21/05/2020 09:50

@Blueberryham I will never get my head around that stance. Even if I didn't have a loved one at risk I would have nothing but empathy for people who do. I cannot imagine thinking 'oh well they would have died anyway'

PafLeChien · 21/05/2020 09:50

I’ve always believed that if your numbers up your numbers up. So I don’t believe people die too soon - it was their time

so why do we even bother with hospitals and vaccination in the first place? Let nature take its course why don't we.
