Went to buy plants. Lady in the queue looking frail and with husband carrying her home oxygen tank. Life is for living Smile

I'm sure many would say she should stay at home but I applaud her.

I hope she has many happy visits to buy plants.

Grow plants from seeds like I did this year. 🤦‍♀️

bibbitybobbitycats · 17/05/2020 19:35

FoodologistGirl I feel sorry for you, such a sad little bundle of hate, ignorance and bitterness.

lockdownbaker · 17/05/2020 20:09

So many people on here judging this poor woman! Idiots! She can choose to take that risk, she’s terminally ill if she has to rely on oxygen... probably with a progressive illness and wants to have some quality of life by going to the garden centre, bloody lock down nazi’s the lot of you. I neither applaud nor judge her, she’s trying to live her life, while she can.

FoodologistGirl · 17/05/2020 20:16

Actually mine and my friends and colleagues And child’s lives have been turned upside down. I work from home now, not sure if I’ll have a job soon, daughter won’t be able to graduate and get a summer job before Her PhD even if that’s still going to happen. We are shielding MIL who has 24 hr care as oxygen mask and dementia so every 2 weeks we have to go into total isolation before we then Spend 2 weeks isolating with her Alternating with SIL Who is taking half pay as half Hours worked. Other work colleagues at home trying to work while also home schooling. I haven't seen my mum for 2 months Whos has a stroke and we have to try to get her shopping delivered to her 2 hrs away. Yes our worlds have been turned upside down. SAHM probably don’t see the difference To their little lives. So yes I and my friends do get pissed off when we see OAPs wandering down the high street Or garden centres without masks. We think why the hell are we doing all this for them when they don’t give a shit themselves! It’s not even about them using ICU and save the NHS because Most of them won’t even be admitted. It’s about putting ourselves out to protect them and theyre still endangering themselves through thoughtlessness!

FoodologistGirl · 17/05/2020 20:29

Stormytcup yes sensible decision when shutdown started. Now I have delicious homegrown lettuce, herbs and flowers in my garden. Not rocket science so you can keep your facepalm to yourself!

FoodologistGirl · 17/05/2020 20:33

Binbitybob don’t feel sorry for me. I have plenty of people I love and am trying to protect. It’s the grownup thing to do!

StormzyinaTCup · 17/05/2020 20:43

Yes, I felt 🤦‍♀️ was necessary. Planting some seeds may be a sensible decision for you in your situation and I'm very pleased you have been able to see the fruits of your labour, however, the OP referred to a frail elderly lady on portable oxygen, possibly with a life limiting illness, and your suggestion was plant some seeds and wait!!

twilightcanine · 17/05/2020 20:58

We think why the hell are we doing all this for them when they don’t give a shit themselves!

I am sudenly reminded of the time an ex boyfriend bought me return tickets to Paris, unprompted and unasked for. Then was pissed off that I didn't want to go because it meant I wuld have to pay all the other costs and couldn't afford it.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/05/2020 21:09

@FelicisNox and are you really so thick that you can’t think why someone who has been advised to shield might choose not to?

FoodologistGirl · 17/05/2020 21:25

Twighlight we’re not talking about trips to Paris here. We’re talking about life and death situations. This virus is bad shit. My daughter is training as a virologist and when her professors were scared it’s time for everyone to be scared. It doesn’t just effect one person if they catch it. The knock on effect is devastating as we’ve seen with Estimated 60,000+ deaths So far and many more to come even if there isn’t a bigger second wave as usually happens in a pandemic, but each of those deaths have many loved ones that could also get ill but not even able to bury them. BTW my MIL has had a oxygen mask for years, it’s not a death sentence but catching the virus with breathing difficulties is!

FoodologistGirl · 17/05/2020 21:31

Stormycups, like I said I planted seed Only 6 weeks ago and already had fresh salad leafs for lunch. Most garden centres do click and collect so there was no excuse to visit if you’re that frail. Also MIL has had an oxygen mask For years so not always a death sentence.

Clemmieandareallybigbunfight · 17/05/2020 21:36

Yeah well I saw their trolley later, pansies and some honey so I don't think growing seed was top of the List.

OP posts:
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/05/2020 21:40

But what if the woman isn’t on oxygen for the long term, what if she has a terminal illness and only has months left? Should she spend those last months shut inside?

I hate the speculation but the attitudes of some people towards the elderly and frail are shocking. I’m sure some people think they are incapable of making decisions

NamesNamesSoManyNames · 17/05/2020 21:48

FoodologistGirl what a very nasty angry little post.

Haenow · 17/05/2020 21:51

@FoodologistGirl

” So yes I and my friends do get pissed off when we see OAPs wandering down the high street Or garden centres without masks. We think why the hell are we doing all this for them when they don’t give a shit themselves!”

Older people do not automatically have to shield. Shielding is only for those who meet certain medical criteria.

You are not doing this for shielded people! Don’t make me laugh. Grin We (all of society) are preventing catastrophic overwhelming of the NHS. Look at the categories included in the shielded group; organ transplant recipients, severe asthmatic, cystic fibrosis patients and cancer patients. Many are young, working members of society and parents.

saraclara · 17/05/2020 22:07

Actually mine and my friends and colleagues And child’s lives have been turned upside down. That sounds really hard. But you're doing that for your MIL who needs your care. Not for anyone else. No other old person or terminally ill person owes you anything.

FoodologistGirl · 17/05/2020 22:22

Name name, yes angry that people aren’t taking this seriously. When most middle aged And young people are turning their lives upside down, working from home, being made redundant, business closing, Kids unable to play with their friends. Wedding cancelled, holidays cancelled. Not nasty though as the reason we are doing this is to save the vulnerable Including The 70+ from catching this virus. If I was really nasty I wouldn’t give a shit and would be coughing all over everyone.

NamesNamesSoManyNames · 17/05/2020 22:24

Well, I think it was nasty to say: Yes our worlds have been turned upside down. SAHM probably don’t see the difference To their little lives

Again, this is not to save the vulnerable or elderly. It's to prevent the whole population getting sick at once and overwhelming the NHS.

Pawsandnoses · 17/05/2020 22:27

How dare someone with a life limiting illness not lock themselves away for the forseeable future, even if that means they might die in misery and isolation. How selfish of them!

FoodologistGirl · 17/05/2020 22:38

If you think this isn’t about the elderly and vulnerable you haven’t been watching the news. 40% of deaths have been from carehomes. Most elderly had to sign DNR forms so they wouldn’t have even been taken to hospital anyway.

Username164 · 17/05/2020 22:39

Christ the woman might have two months to live.

I wouldn't applaud her, respect maybe, but I doubt she wants fucking applause. It's not exactly cause to celebrate.

itsgettingweird · 17/05/2020 22:42

My Nan had home oxygen.

Large family and had a gathering. 10 years ago so wasn't breaking an rules Grin

Us all offering food from buffet and tea etc so she didn't need to get up.

Nan?

Told us to stop fussing - her legs still worked - she only had lung failure HmmGrin

FoodologistGirl · 17/05/2020 22:44

Saraclara no of course they don’t owe me anything they owe the rest of society to at least keep themselves safe and not swam around the garden centre in the middle of a pandemic. When councils are delivering food parcels so they don’t need to go out. And their own children are probably running around trying to keep them safe. The least they could do is protect themselves if they have a pre existing condition.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 17/05/2020 23:03

I think we all have to make our own decisions within the law - which we are, and if you’re not in the garden centre, then you won’t catch it from her.
Maybe it’s one of her last pleasures.
Maybe she’s already had Covid 19 and has been released on oxygen.
This virus isn’t going anywhere - are the elderly never to come out again? It’s up to her.
