New thread,

I won't be a very good host as I tend to dip in and out of these things but have filled up the last thread. (Sorry)

Does anyone have a weird burning type sensation that creeps around them? Like it goes down my arms and body and feels horrid

Valsemove · 15/05/2020 12:57

@Godhelpusall

Yes, I have had that. Only within the last few days. It accompanied the slightly faint feeling and sensation of burning in my head that I've had when doing slightly 'too much' (low level activity, in actual fact). The burning sensation then spreads down to my upper trunk and arms before fading.

It is different to the mild-sunburn sensation on the skin, which I don't seem to get anymore.

I'm wondering if it's possible to have a bit of a crossover between viral symptoms and post viral. Where perhaps the virus is at a very low level (or the immune system is picking up bits of dead virus). But the majority of one's symptoms are post viral. Because I feel I may be crossing over into post viral territory. Fatigue, possible neurological symptoms etc.

godhelpusall · 15/05/2020 13:12

What neurological symptoms? Like the burning?

faithinnature1 · 15/05/2020 13:18

I'm on day 50 something. I felt better for a while but had a relapse over the last week +. It's so depressing. My lingering symptoms are chest pain and a painful cough. Feels like a burning sensation and as if I've inhaled smoke. Fatigue hits me at times of the day and I have to lie down for a couple of hours. I keep going for a walk after a few days in and I think it makes it worse. I am in a difficult place mentally where I feel like I need to bring some normality back hence the walks but wonder if I should hold off and rest for longer. So utterly fed up, GP fobbed me off two weeks ago and I feel so sad I haven't had any support at all. Family friends and work colleagues have been great though. I still don't know it was the virus but I've never experienced anything like it before, never had a chest infection since I was a child. No history of asthma and I was active before this

Valsemove · 15/05/2020 13:19

I'm not sure if the sensation that you're experiencing is like mild sunburn, but if it is, this has been reported by lots of people. Seems it may be reflecting the activity of the immune system or it could be the nerves in the skin having been affected during the illness. Doctors aren't sure apparently which one could be the case, but don't seem to think it is anything too concerning. Mine did fade after a couple of weeks.

The burning sensation that I've been experiencing lately is different and starts in my head. It feels like it's less a skin symptom than something else. It only happens about once a day. I try to sit down as soon as it happens, and then it fades.

faithinnature1 · 15/05/2020 13:19

I've also periodically been light headed and collapsed once when I got up, my legs just gave way. Still getting head rushes a lot

Valsemove · 15/05/2020 13:20

Sorry, should have said my last post was @godhelpusall

Satsunday · 15/05/2020 13:24

Hi everyone. I'm new to this thread but not new to symptoms...I just wondered if anyone could tell me if this sounds like I may have had the virus? I'm not sure if it is similar to anyone else.

Early March I started to get a tight chest when exercising. A couple of days later I started needing to clear my throat constantly. Then the next day I got a temp and just felt really off. Next day I was ok apart from weird clearing throat thing.

Since then mostly a weird breathing through dust feeling, clearing of throat almost constantly and very dry trachea feeling. Sometimes it feels like my trachea is burning. Have had a week of not feeling ill now thankfully but I can't shift the chest thing. I'm starting to feel down about it. Will it ever go? Or is is just hay fever? Except I haven't had hay fever before and don't have a runny nose or anything.

One of my DCs was really ill for a week during this with a high temp. She lost her sense of taste. But the higher risk members of my family didn't catch anything.

Thanks for reading! Would appreciate any thoughts. Hope everyone is as ok as they can be.

Norugratsatall · 15/05/2020 13:28

@Satsunday. Welcome! To the thread no one wants to really be on. Sorry to say it does sound similar to my experience- tight burning lung and the ebbing and flowing of symptoms too. Just try and rest , plenty of fluids and paracetamol if you need it. I've also taken ibuprofen too - in the early weeks this was not recommended but I think advice has changed now. Sorry you're suffering but hopefully you can find support here amongst us kindred spirits! I've found these threads a lifeline for moral support - as well as a good source of knowledge as pple often post links to interesting articles etc .

Satsunday · 15/05/2020 13:32

Thank you. I've assumed as it's gone on so long I'm not catching anymore? So post viral? But the post viral is worse for me than the time it started!! We don't go out anyway but would think I can't be catching after 8 weeks or more??

I have swigged Gaviscon at times to stop the burning feeling but it's probably pointless as I think it probably isn't heartburn.

I can relate to the ebbing and flowing. Had the odd day of thinking it had gone. I get scared when I think that I might be stuck with this throat feeling though Sad

faithinnature1 · 15/05/2020 13:34

@Satsunday it sounds similar to me. Mid-late March I started with tight chest and short breath and cough. After about a week I had an on off fever and feeling unwell and 111 and gp suspected the virus. The chest symptoms have lingered since then even though I've felt less unwell at times. The symptoms get a bit better then worse again. The last week or so have been as bad for me as when I considered myself to probably have the virus and when I had a fever. I still often feel like there's a weight or pressure on my chest and I find myself taking a deeper breath. I feel quite down, can't imagine it going. I don't think hayfever as I'm missing the more obvious symptoms of that. I haven't had anxiety before so when a couple of people have suggested tight chest could be that I've given some thought to it but I genuinely don't feel anxious, obviously it's an awful time generally but my circumstances aren't particularly stressful so I really don't think there is anything psychosomatic going on for me

stayathomegardener · 15/05/2020 13:35

@godhelpusall I'm low carbing to help my stomach and started slippery elm powder and mastic gum to heal the gut for the last 2/3 weeks in desperation.

Had a good follow up text from the British Lung foundation a few days ago linking my stomach acid to SOB and tight chest/chest pain symptoms. They advised Omisrapole? but I think that would mask rather than repair.

Started a stomach reconditioning liquid in the last few days. 🤷‍♀️

Maybe it's just time.

Moodgie · 15/05/2020 13:36

@Satsunday Not exactly the same, but similar here, it’s almost to vague to describe. But I have had the throat clearing, the irritated windpipe feeling, the tight chest, the breathing through dust kind of thing, at various times, coming and going, I’ve lost track to be honest now. What are your symptoms at the moment?

faithinnature1 · 15/05/2020 13:36

Also a heartburn like feeling has been an issue for me

Norugratsatall · 15/05/2020 13:36

Yes my symptoms are worse now than at the beginning when they were on and off and I still had loads of energy! The fatigue dizziness headaches and chest pain are almost constant now.... just been for a very short walk and now feel wiped out! It's awful. But hang in there - we will beat this thing! 💐

Satsunday · 15/05/2020 13:40

Hi thanks for your replies. Ongoing symptoms are the constant dry trachea and feeling of needing to clear my throat. It is now there from the moment I wake up but worse by the evening and often worse if I try to clear my throat (then it feels like I'm breathing through fabric or something). I've been taking antihistamines recently which so far just makes it feel more dry but helps a bit with the needing to clear my throat. I still get the burning too sometimes but it's fleeting.

My GP suggested silent reflux. That was a few weeks ago though.

Satsunday · 15/05/2020 13:53

@faithinnature1 I've considered anxiety too but I've had anxiety before and it hasn't been anything like this. I've had a lump in throat feeling before with anxiety but this is so different. I do find feeling anxious about it makes me cope less well with it though.

It's just awful isn't it.

Moominmamma33 · 15/05/2020 13:56

@faithinnature Hi, just wanted to say I could have written every word of your post. Had tests about a month ago and ruled out everything else (was too early for an antibody test) and two GPs diagnosed covid. So based on what you've described, yours probably is too. On these threads it's absolutely classic to have waves of symptoms that come and go. Horrible. Lots of support on here then.

onlinelinda · 15/05/2020 14:09

@stayathomegardener that's interesting. I've had more indigestion in the last couple of weeks, even though I'm otherwise well.

Meercatmama · 15/05/2020 14:13

@Moodgie
Sorry I was so late getting back to you I have been working,The last dip I had lasted two day with really bad back ache, breathlessness headache and my arms really hurting Then suddenly on Sunday I felt better. Now I get a bit of a sore throat the cough the returns intermittently and sometimes a bit of breathlessness and headache.

My husband who became ill 14 days after me gets breathlessness, tight chest and a lump in his throat and coughing up flem. occasionally He spoke to the doctor this morning as he is in the shielded category and they said up to three months post viral but he was out walking with me this morning. We do very gentle exercise ie our walks first of all were just round our small garden then to the end of the road Today we mange a 15mins gentle walk with a small incline. Both of us were breathless at times but we came back cup of tea I worked on my lap top and he watched some TV. Measured careful exercise with plenty of rest. I hope this helps. Not sure how I am going to manage when I return to the classroom on the 1st June

Moodgie · 15/05/2020 14:30

@meercatmama Thank you for your reply. Is your breathlessness triggered by activity. Mine just appears and it is like I can’t take a proper deep breath at times and at times like something in my windpipe. Is that similar?

fedupofbed · 15/05/2020 14:35

Hi everyone, @stayathomegardener and @Egghead68 that's great news! @Moodgie glad you're showing signs of improvement too.

Day 76. Feeling better in myself today. I'm sure the horrible cardio symptoms are moving on 🤞🏻. However it really is whack-a-mole as I've been continually short of breath all day instead. Throughout the 10 weeks this has been a pattern- when I feel better in myself the SOB gets worse and vice versa. Does anyone else have similar? It's really annoying as I'd just like to have a few hours without worrying about something!

I think it was @Valsemove and @godhelpusall posting about the burning sensation. I have that from time to time too - it comes in waves but for me it's mainly my torso and bladder area. Another one of those random symptoms.

@Countingsheeps I hope you're getting on okay.

mumlurker · 15/05/2020 14:52

Article in the guardian today suggesting one in twenty get the weird protracted illness we've been suffering...!

Egghead68 · 15/05/2020 14:55

Oh yes thanks @mumlurker - based on author’s BMJ article:

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/15/weird-hell-professor-advent-calendar-covid-19-symptoms-paul-garner

Meercatmama · 15/05/2020 14:59

@Moodgie
The breathlessness can be triggered by activity but sometimes it is just there especially when I am tired. Husband is in the evening and after her has eaten. When I wake up in the morning I kind of know what kind of day it is going to be often by how tired I feel. Its really strange. Today is a middling type of day , yesterday very tired and then more symptoms, but the day before full of energy.
