New thread,

I won't be a very good host as I tend to dip in and out of these things but have filled up the last thread. (Sorry)

@Meercatmama wise words there! I have tried to do that todsy - to enjoy the moments I can and not put pressure on myself. I find mornings hard though.
Fingers crossed for a good day tomorrow

Meercatmama · 15/05/2020 22:55

@godhelpusall
I have always been a jump out of bed person and get on with the day. He has always been a wake up and take stock person. So when I have found mornings hard he has been stop and just breathe , there is no rush, It has helped ground me and think about how I feel mentally and what my body feels like. For him it is second nature for me no way. I realised how much I push myself and body when even I am ill. He has much more realistic expectations and some of the things I thought were mega important through this virus I have found are not that important, he realised that a long time ago. now I think virus wise he is better mentally than me definitely and health wise at the same stage better mentally and possibly body wise

Lightsabre · 15/05/2020 22:59

Puts it all into perspective @Meercatmama. Hope you both have a restful night.

Egghead68 · 15/05/2020 22:59

However does anyone have a really odd fear about taking an antibody test and not showing antibodies

@faithinnature1 yes, because I want to have the antibodies but also because I fear the social embarrassment of having to tell people it was negative (so many people have been sceptical that I have covid).
As a side note I don’t know how they can say the Roche tests are 100% accurate. What are they measuring them against? The swab tests (but further down the line)? If so that’s no good as they are widely thought to be only around 70% accurate.

Dorual · 15/05/2020 23:27

Yes I was scared the antibody test would be negative. It was.

Now I don't know where I stand. My husband has symptoms again, we are both so on and off with symptoms we don't know what is going on.

Bornlazy · 16/05/2020 00:48

Hi everyone I haven't posted in a while but have been following your stories. I am sorry to see so many of you still suffering

It will be 10 weeks tomorrow since I became unwell and I wish I could say that I'm 100% back to normal but unfortunately I am not. I have been back at work for 5 weeks now and at times I want to cry with the exhaustion of it, but I am managing (just). I force myself to go out walking everyday as I am trying to build my stamina up. I spent weeks doing nothing and I don't think it helped me as it just made me weaker. I was not super fit before this virus, unlike some of you, so I have a lot of catching up to do.

One thing I would say about all posters suffering from GERD is that ibuprofen wont be helping it. I suffer from it at the best of times and take regular omeprazole so I have to be really careful about ibuprofen. Right now my heartburn is bad so I have to just take paracetamol. If you are still having GERD symptoms I would not recommend cutting down on PPI medication as it is the most effective way to manage your symptoms. @stayathomegardener if I were you I'd try the omeprazole as it doesn't just mask the symptoms it reduces the amount of acid the stomach produces therefore allowing any inflammation from reflux to heal. They work best if you take them first thing in the morning at least an hour before you eat. @Linus1972
I have been suffering from terrible gas and bloating but for me its definitely not down to lack of stomach acid. I think its just another horrible symptom of this virus.

@Satsunday I had awful neck pain for about 5 days and so did dh. I cant even begin to understand how it can possibly cause all these symptoms but it seems to attack everything.

I would love an antibody test but I'm apprehensive as if its negative I will be so disappointed and worried too as I'm a front line NHS worker. I feel my immune system has been depleted by this and would hate to see the damage CV would do to me in this state if I haven't had it.

Crayfishforyou · 16/05/2020 02:59

@SimpleKindofLife I literally had a thimble of wine. I had red as its supposed to be anti inflammatory.
I felt a bit dizzy, but then I feel that a lot of the time anyway.
I did try a sip about three weeks ago and it was a really bad idea, so I know now I've come a long way.

This virus reminds me of dengue fever a bit, that would come back in waves too. On and off I had that for months, mainly the stomach symptoms so I could still get on with stuff in general.

Valsemove · 16/05/2020 06:25

@Crayfishforyou It's good to hear that you seemed to tolerate the wine a little better this time. Things like that are helpful I find, as it makes you think 'No, I'm not imagining it. I really am making some progress here'.

Interestingly, in the recent Guardian article (Title: 'Weird as hell') Professor Paul Garner compares his experience with coronavirus to his experience with dengue fever, so I think you are onto something there.

Valsemove · 16/05/2020 06:38

Another possible GERD patient here. Had that acidic burning, sometimes mentholly feeling, in throat and chest for about 6 weeks now. It comes and goes.

I'd assumed, til I read about it here, that it was respiratory tract inflammation due to the virus. So I found it quite depressing when it didn't seem to be going away. But now I suspect it may be GERD. I'm wondering too if it has been related to the on-off lung pain I've been experiencing, as it seems to go round in a cycle. Chest burning which sometimes spreads in the direction of the lungs, then lung pain. It's my main symptom now. My throat and windpipe is affected too.

Frustrated that I reported a sore chest, throat constriction and lung pain to my GP and she didn't consider it might be GERD.

I'm going to start taking Gaviscon now to see if it helps. Thankfully the original one is safe for breastfeeding.

Never had acid reflux in my life before, so it just didn't occur to me what it might be.

Porcupineinwaiting · 16/05/2020 11:30

@Crayfishforyou the doctor from the Liverpool School for Tropical Medicine who has COVID and has been blogging about it compared it to dengue fever for exactly that reason.

LetsBeSensible · 16/05/2020 11:34

Hi everyone day fifty- thing here, hope all are as well as can be.
I had decided that I did too much last week, and as I’m due on in a few days I’ve decided to really take it easy. I’m glad I did as I think it’s helping. I’m more active “at home” than I was, I can achieve around 3,000 steps per day. Pre Covid my minimum per day would be 10,000. But three weeks ago I’d struggle to do 1,000. My focus is to increase slowly, not to try and “get back” to where I used to be.
Tomorrow will mark two calendar months since symptoms, I May have some cake to mark the occasion.
Someone mentioned the spoon theory at some point, I thought I would leave a link for it here butyoudontlooksick.com/articles/written-by-christine/the-spoon-theory/
I have been re-examining my CFS, pacing strategies etc over the last few days, and I recall how much people found the spoon theory so useful (the concept. I find the actual story a bit trite)

Egghead68 · 16/05/2020 11:36

Morning. It is my 8-week anniversary and I am feeling good today.

I plan to attempt a short workout for the over-70s (I am a lot younger than this).

Hope everyone is doing OK.

godhelpusall · 16/05/2020 11:38

@Valsemove I have the menthol mouth thing again. It had gone for a few weeks but came back on Tuesday Confused

SimpleKindofLife · 16/05/2020 11:41

How's your HR now @Egghead68? Mine is still shooting up at the slightest bit of activity.

godhelpusall · 16/05/2020 11:42

I have had a bad day. Woke at 5 worrying about my children getting Kawasaki as they both had c19 and I was thinking I'm a terrible mum at the moment, they don't eat enough fruit or drink enough water and eat too much crap and I don't have the energy to parent properly. I've cried all morning as I'm so fed up of being ill and anxious about me and then. Both kids are ASD so looking after them is challenging when I have support like school mum and a cleaner. I'm trying to work as well and it's all too much.

SimpleKindofLife · 16/05/2020 11:45

7 weeks (possibly 8) for me today. Hoping next Sat will be a turning point for me.

I slept ok last night but feeling tired today. I managed a shower this morning without painkillers for my chest pain though, so that's a positive.

SimpleKindofLife · 16/05/2020 11:49

@godhelpusall could you take some time off work to ease the pressure? Would it reassure you to get your dc checked out at the GP or hospital?

Are they taking vitamins? That's an easy way to get around that. Don't worry about the junk food, just chuck fruit at them as well.

We're all doing our best right now in a horrendous situation, this is so bloody hard, so don't be hard on yourself 💐

Kitcat122 · 16/05/2020 11:58

@"Egghead68 that's great news I started to feel good at 8 weeks too. Be cautious working out! I say this from experience xx

Crayfishforyou · 16/05/2020 12:08

@Porcupineinwaiting interesting! The doctor in Asia said I had reacted badly as it wasn't a virus my system had seen the like of before........Confused

I hope you all have nice weekends. I'm having a dizzy, blocks of feet for ice day, so the toenail painting is out for today.
But I have completed my Caroline Hirons morning routine on my poor face; it's beginning to look like a melted candle.
That is progress.

@godhelpusall I have the same worries, I will often creep into her bedroom and check on her, even though I think she's fine now.
My dd acts as though anything veg or fruit is poison. Its carbs and protein only.

godhelpusall · 16/05/2020 13:00

I've got the icy hot feelings again. I'd love to know if it's the virus, immune system reacting to dead virus or post viral stuff. I really wish there was a definitive answer.

godhelpusall · 16/05/2020 13:01

@Crayfishforyou what were the symptoms of dengue?

Egghead68 · 16/05/2020 13:03

@SimpleKindofLife rather than being constantly very high my heart rate has fluctuated more since Thursday night. It’s between around 82 and 110 at rest (normal for me is 68-70). It’s 93 at the moment lying on the sofa. I’m going to monitor it during my 15 mins gentle exercise and stop if it goes over 165.

I’ll definitely be cautious @Kitcat122. Learnt that one the hard way too.

Realise I may well feel rubbish tomorrow.

Hope everyone is bearing up.

Egghead68 · 16/05/2020 13:08

One worrying thing I have read about Dengue fever is that if you get it a second time you are at increased risk of the severe form. Really hope covid isn’t like that.

Crayfishforyou · 16/05/2020 13:17

@godhelpusall
High temperature with feeling freezing cold, in 35 degree heat I was piling on every towel I could find, I was so cold. It got so high I started seeing stuff.
I also got a really bad searing headache. After a week I got the worst gastritis symptoms I've ever had and that's when I got sent to the hospital as my stomach was agony. Which was fine as our toilet was a hole in the ground in the garden.
I did feel better in a couple of weeks and then for months the gastritis symptoms kept coming back.
Bouts of sudden explosive diarrhoea whilst travelling and taking three planes to get home was fun.
I had had hepatitis e about a month or so beforehand so my body probably hadn't completely recovered from that.

user34254356 · 16/05/2020 13:17

i got icy feet for an entire day and then temperature spikes every day after that. Almost feels like the virus has resurrected itself
