Shame we don't have an election for ages.

But great to finally have some opposition to this government again, particularly as UK deaths overtake every other country in the world apart from the Us, that has a population 5 times as big.

“If gay marriage was OK… I saw no reason in principle why a union should not be consecrated between three men, as well as two men, or indeed three men and a dog.”

FloggingMoll · 14/05/2020 15:23

Oh come on now @Clavinova, that's too far. Grin Boris is renowned for speaking first and thinking afterwards. He means exactly what he says in the moment; it's afterwards, when people are mortified and aghast, that he claims context.

You are quoting from the 1990s - Boris Johnson does actually have a pretty good LGBT rights record;

"Elected to Parliament for the first time in 2001, Johnson rebelled against his own party on several occasions to back LGBT+ rights measures."

Another yes or no question clavinova, are you a Tory bot?

Another yes or no question clavinova, are you a Tory bot?

No, I'm a Russian secret agent.

"The Irish government is coming under mounting pressure over the number of deaths in care homes."

"Residential and community care facilities including nursing homes now account for more than 62 per cent of COVID-19 deaths, according to recent figures released by the Department of Health."

chomalungma · 14/05/2020 15:42

So....that's Ireland.

Meanwhile, from the Daily Mail

A Downing Street spokesman: ‘These Tweets have rightly been deleted.

‘The MPs involved have been spoken to by the Whips’ Office and reminded of their responsibility to check the validity of information before they post on social media sites.

1forsorrow · 14/05/2020 15:49

Apparently - half of the posters currently here seem to enjoy doctored videos of Nigel Farage. No one is interested in Nigel Farage now, he talked himself out of a job.

1forsorrow · 14/05/2020 15:50

Well done Whips' Office.

2017 - "Jeremy Corbyn's former campaign chief tweeted a picture of a fake news article claiming Theresa May was preparing to release the notorious Moors Murderer Ian Brady before his death on Monday."

"Jon Trickett, 66, shared the photo of the mocked up BBC breaking news image which said the Prime Minister had issued a compassionate release order for the serial killer, who died in a secure hospital in Merseyside aged 79."

"The Labour candidate, who has been MP for Hemsworth, West Yorkshire, since 1996, said the fabricated story was "truly astonishing" in a retweet to his 15,000 followers."

2019 "David Lammy MP has been branded “hypocritical” and a “fake news” generator after tweeting a four year old video of the prime minister allegedly in a move to distort public perception of this year’s Conservative Party conference."

chomalungma · 14/05/2020 16:01

Yes - people on all sides should check before they tweet.

Not a coincedence that this happened just after PMQs, is it....

Stellaris22 · 14/05/2020 16:01

What does any of this have to do with this thread clavinova?

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 14/05/2020 16:11

'These tweets have been deleted'

Loving the passive voice. Mistakes were made. Lessons were learned. Tweets were deleted.

But no explanation and no apology.

Flagrant breach of the Ministerial Code, but that's OK.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/05/2020 16:26

@Namechange my comment should probably have come with a reminder that I have been politically homeless for a few years. I used to be a Labour member but sent my card back when I could no longer recognise the party leadership as being Labour representatives.

I have not voted along party lines for what feels like far too long.

Clavinova · 14/05/2020 16:28

What does any of this have to do with this thread clavinova?

David Lammy is in Labour's shadow cabinet - Jon Trickett was a shadow cabinet minister up until a few weeks ago.

chomalungma · 14/05/2020 16:40

The thing it shows is how desperate the Conservatives are and how keen they are to smear Starmer.

It's going to be a fascinating couple of years. It will be great to see how often you come and defend the Conservatives no matter what.

What would Boris have to do for you to disown him?

BaileysforBreakfast · 14/05/2020 16:43

clavinova Obviously yes if they knew it was doctored and misleading - maybe not if they thought there was a grain of truth in it.

A grain? Is that sufficient, do you think, before someone shares barefaced lies?

Clavinova · 14/05/2020 16:44

What would Boris have to do for you to disown him?

Obviously quite a lot - nothing's worked so far, despite your best efforts.

chomalungma · 14/05/2020 16:47

Obviously quite a lot - nothing's worked so far, despite your best efforts

How many excess deaths from Covid-19 would cause you some concern?

BaileysforBreakfast · 14/05/2020 16:47

What would Boris have to do for you to disown him? I think this is a very interesting question, Chomolungma, and one that is seldom asked (except by me sometimes!) I think it's very, very weird to be so devoted to a party or an individual that you simply cannot or will not critically evaluate their actions. Blind faith, I think it's called - the very opposite of thinking critically/considering/evidencing etc.
Weird.

BaileysforBreakfast · 14/05/2020 16:50

Clavinova is to Boris and the Tories what Waylon Smithers is to Mr Burns. To put it very crudely, he'd crawl right up his arse if he could and still say he could see the sunshine from there.

Clavinova · 14/05/2020 16:51

A grain? Is that sufficient, do you think, before someone shares barefaced lies?

All the indignation from Labour supporters who fail to see the irony.

Clavinova · 14/05/2020 16:52

How many excess deaths from Covid-19 would cause you some concern?

That comment probably sacks half of the leaders in Europe.

chomalungma · 14/05/2020 16:56

That comment probably sacks half of the leaders in Europe

I said "cause concern".

Anyway - you are doing a stirling job for Boris. As a true Conservative, how do you think we should pay for all this?

billysboy · 14/05/2020 16:58

He ought to be called Keir Stirrer

Very easy to sit and snipe from the sidelines
