Shame we don't have an election for ages.

But great to finally have some opposition to this government again, particularly as UK deaths overtake every other country in the world apart from the Us, that has a population 5 times as big.

Keir really showing Boris up at PMQs

user1471448556 · 13/05/2020 12:10

Good. The British public are becoming more astute.

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 13/05/2020 12:11

I love Keir Starmer - calling out BS!

IpanemaGallina · 13/05/2020 12:14

Finally, an opposition. This should be welcomed wherever you sit politically.

effingterrified · 13/05/2020 12:14

Utterlydespairing - but you'd vote for someone with Boris's past record of lying, incompetence, perks for his lovers mates, etc?

Not to say being involved in the beating up of a journalist?

Brutal

Hear hear @effingterrified

BusterTheBulldog · 13/05/2020 12:20

I’m relieved to finally have an affective opposition leader, something we massively need in these times!

Alsohuman · 13/05/2020 12:21

Eviscerating the lard tub. Christ, if only Starmer has been opposing him last December.

Proppedupinbed · 13/05/2020 12:25

I am genuinely surprised that Boris turned up for pmqs.

effingterrified · 13/05/2020 12:26

Very true, Alsohuman, and I think historians of the future will be examining that what if too.

Hope all those Corbyn supporters get the blame that's owing for that historic failure to oppose then too.

But at least Starmer is finally providing some actual opposition now.

I agree 100% with PlayinMay and SinglePringle.

It is so refreshing to see someone asking questions that make sense, are intelligent but at the same time are asked politely. His background as a barrister is obvious, and a massive advantage. I think he's what the opposition needs.

Alsohuman · 13/05/2020 12:28

Can anyone see this government lasting until 2024? I’m genuinely wondering if we’ll see a GE in a year or so’s time when clearing up the mess just looks too difficult.

campion · 13/05/2020 12:29

He's the Prime minister bit of pmqs Proppedupinbed so he kind of has to.
Unless he can find another excuse.

FairIsleViking · 13/05/2020 12:31

Johnson won't be PM in 2024. I would put money on it.

NamesNamesSoManyNames · 13/05/2020 12:31

And who gives a flying f?

Those who want a functioning opposition to hold the government to account.
If you want people who just sit back and let the government crack on, well, that's up to you.

No ay will the Tories let go of power.
Whether we'll have Boris as PM is another question, of course.

Rainycloudyday · 13/05/2020 12:35

Can anyone give me a quick run down of Keir’s background and voting record? I’m being lazy I know, but have been meaning to research a bit since he was voted in.

Alsohuman · 13/05/2020 12:40

Google is your friend @Rainycloudyday.

FrankieKnuckles · 13/05/2020 12:40

Only thing that's cheered me up today

Brakebackcyclebot · 13/05/2020 12:43

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keir_Starmer

I know wikipedia isn't liked by everyone, but it gives an overview.

wanderlove · 13/05/2020 12:48

I'm so happy to have a credible labour politician and Keir is intelligent and perfect for asking tough questions. However I think it is easier to be the one looking for problems than solving them at the moment. As a lifelong labour supporter and thinking that Boris has not done a great job I am still glad we don't have Corbyn and Abbot et all running this shitshow. If only Starmer had been running against Boris in the election there may have been a different result to have a credible labour opposition

Iwalkinmyclothing · 13/05/2020 12:49

The current format of PMQs shows Johnson for what he is, doesn't it? Without the braying cheerleaders on the government benches it's clear that he is a bumbling oaf without substance who relies on saying not very much at all other than a few empty phrases, and the contrast is even more stark when he is faced by a competent, knowledgeable, well prepared professional.
