Why can't he just answer a question straight?
And also if you have children did he just suggest you tell your employer and stay home? That is not going to go down well!

The Sun have written a better version of what Boris said, meaning a Newspaper Report understood.

I find it quite concerning that news / media outlets have to write a better version of the message. Surely that implies the original message was too confusing in the first place.

chomalungma · 12/05/2020 11:23

So it was not just waffle, there were valid points

Don't you find it slightly disturbing that an Eton Educated, Oxford educated ex journalist who is the Prime Minister is incapable of answering a question without waffling and having a word salad - yet the Sun newspaper has to translate it into easy to read words.

He is incapable of communicating clearly in a crisis which needs people who can communicate a message clearly.

mummmy2017 · 12/05/2020 11:29

People are trying very hard to villainies Boris, because they need someone to blame, it helps them deal with the unexpected .

chomalungma · 12/05/2020 11:30

Prime Minister, how do you propose for people to return to work if there is no childcare available or limited access to schools for children?

"Gosh, we hadn't thought of that. Nanny always took care of that and Mrs Johnson used to do childcare. Don't they go to boarding school or something? That is a problem. I guess that someone will have to stay at home and look after them. Or something"

chomalungma · 12/05/2020 11:31

Not trying very hard.

It's very easy to do.

mummmy2017 · 12/05/2020 11:34

Well to be honest schools could be open by the time Mr Bloke goes back to work, since he must have asked about childcare for when he returns.

mummmy2017 · 12/05/2020 11:36

Only the polls and Joe Public think Boris is right to keep us in lockdown till it is safe.
This Echo chamber has always been very Labourfied and so Boris Bashing is the norm here not in RL.

chomalungma · 12/05/2020 11:37

Well to be honest schools could be open by the time Mr Bloke goes back to work, since he must have asked about childcare for when he returns

You really are trying.

If you had been paying attention, you would have heard him say that if you can go back to work, then go back to work. Unless you can work from home. And only if the workplace is Covid secure.

And that's from tomorrow.

So from tomorrow, there are going to be many employers asking for employees to go back to work - because their jobs can't be done from home.

But schools remain shut to most pupils

Can you see the problem?

mummmy2017 · 12/05/2020 11:39

Oh sorry Boss we have no child care.
Can I still work from home, or continue furlough pay, Boris said this is fine.

Bosses will have no choice, or face unfair sacking claims.

Alsohuman · 12/05/2020 11:41

But he can't just say I don't know

Of course he can. I’ve media trained dozens of people and that’s one of the basics - if you don’t know, say so. Honesty and transparency are highly respected.

chomalungma · 12/05/2020 11:42

Bosses will have no choice, or face unfair sacking claims

That's a much more succint answer.

Simple, easy to understand. And it only took one sentence.

And if you can do it, then I am sure an Eton educated, Oxford educated ex journalist can do it.

StoorieHoose · 12/05/2020 11:50

Hahahahahahaha you are just like Boris Mummy2017. No clue on how.many many people have bosses that will say 'get to work, your childcare issues are not my problem, come in tomorrow or don't bother coming in at all'

Heygirlheyboy · 12/05/2020 12:04

Well it just shows those things don't mean much after all chomalunga

Roussette · 12/05/2020 12:08

Oh purleeeease. We really aren't that simple. We can, however, recognise incompetence.

Did you watch the media trying to unpick what it was he said after his Sunday 7pm waffle? It was laughable. There was no... 'so the PM has said blah blah'.

It was all...'I think the PM meant etc' or 'I think the PM was trying to say..'
There's enough uncertainty out there as it is without the Prime Minister of our country adding to it

TinySleepThief · 12/05/2020 12:09

No clue on how.many many people have bosses that will say 'get to work, your childcare issues are not my problem, come in tomorrow or don't bother coming in at all'

Exactly. The fact is many people will lose their jobs because their bosses are not going to wait until they have sorted out childcare.

chomalungma · 12/05/2020 12:14

The fact is many people will lose their jobs because their bosses are not going to wait until they have sorted out childcare

And we all know how considerate companies are when it comes to issues around childcare and employment rights.

QueenofmyPrinces · 12/05/2020 12:15

Exactly. The fact is many people will lose their jobs because their bosses are not going to wait until they have sorted out childcare.

I work for the NHS (nurse) and when schools were closed me and my colleagues were told that not having childcare is not an acceptable reason for not coming into work and that we must make sure we have plans in place to ensure we have childcare provision.

lyralalala · 12/05/2020 12:55

And we all know how considerate companies are when it comes to issues around childcare and employment rights.

And further to that we all know how reasonable and understanding UC is when you get sacked

jasjas1973 · 12/05/2020 12:56

@mummmy2017

An employer can legitimately dismiss an employee for non attendance due to childcare issues, they'd need to follow disciplinary procedures but easily done.
This will affect woman far more than men, so a bit of an own goal on here isn't it?

The Govt has not yet met its own 5 tests in order to lift any restrictions, its far too early, we don't even know our R rate with any accuracy.

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/05/2020 13:00

I find it rather funny, in a grim way, that Johnson's waffle is being repeatedly defended by the least coherent poster on this thread.

KenDodd · 12/05/2020 13:23

Only the polls and Joe Public think Boris is right to keep us in lockdown till it is safe

You're right. The public seem to think the government and BJ are doing a great job. It's astonishing. Highest deaths in Europe, despite have two weeks watching what was happening in Italy when we could have taken action, instead our PM went on holiday, didn't even bother going to COBRA meetings, lied about PPE and ventilators and boasted about shaking everybody's hand and saying that was perfectly safe (before catching CV himself).

KenDodd · 12/05/2020 13:25

And still people think he's doing a great job.

chomalungma · 12/05/2020 13:26

And still people think he's doing a great job

I wonder what he would have to do to get people thinking he's not doing a great job?

GrimmsFairytales · 12/05/2020 13:37

I wonder what he would have to do to get people thinking he's not doing a great job?

Perhaps if he started to explain things clearly and told the truth, then the people defending him would begin to criticise him and call him weak.

Grin Only half joking

Alsohuman · 12/05/2020 13:37

I wonder what he would have to do to get people thinking he's not doing a great job?

I suspect he could order the slaughter of the first born and one poster here would think it was a great idea.
