She's not perfect, no politician is.

But she's straight and clear and concise.

People in Scotland know very very little has changed.

Westminster are really showing their true colours. No wonder we have 30,000 plus deaths. Fucking shambles.

Yep you are as entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. Only time will tell

Didn't England not even include care home deaths in the daily figures until about 2 weeks ago or did I imagine that?

She hasn't mentioned independence once during the daily briefings. Just because she has done so in the past doesn't mean that she is using this to further her ambitions

Report
Aesopfable · 12/05/2020 19:34

She might not have said the word ‘independence’ but she has certainly continued her ‘Scotland badly treated by England’ propaganda. Just look at the fuss she kicked up over PHE PPE stockpile.

Report
StoorieHoose · 12/05/2020 19:39

So she doesn't have to mention independence for MN posters to accuse her of mentioning it? Ok then

Report
Tonz · 12/05/2020 19:39

That was because it was reported that ppe meant for Scotland was diverted to England so I don't really think the blame lands at Nicolas feet there

Report
overworkedandstressed · 12/05/2020 19:43

I didn't know that but just looked it up online..of course she has to investigate that...why is she in the wrong for doing that?

Report
Tonz · 12/05/2020 19:56

She's not. And all this talk about nicola and independence is doing my nut in she is dealing with a pandemic as is most of the world and still it gets cast up. She's not perfect neither is any politician to be fair but I don't see the relevance of independence right now. She has bigger things on her plate and I for one am happy with how she is keeping us informed.

I live in England and I'm not Scottish, but I'm definitely a fan of NS, I think she's an excellent politician and has been clear and direct all through this crisis. Total contrast to the waffling buffoon and his band of clowns in London.

of course she has to investigate that...why is she in the wrong for doing that?

But perhaps investigate before you condemn England for supposedly stopping Scotland getting PPE when the reality was it was England’s PPE and she has not ensured adequate PPE in Scotland. Classic ‘blame Westminster’ tactics from her.

Report
Tonz · 12/05/2020 20:37

It was reported she had to investigate it. And so did Wales not just Scotland or is it just Scotland you have the problem with. It's all available to look at online if you care to research. Whether or not it's true that it happened it still had to be investigated. I would expect England to investigate if it was the other way around

Report
Tonz · 12/05/2020 20:41

Nicola said it would be totally unacceptable IF claims were true she didn't say they were true. Scotland and Wales had the same reports

Report
ssd · 12/05/2020 20:49

She didn't condemn, she questioned what was said and wanted it investigated. If you feel Westminster she not be held to account for anything, that's up to you @Aesopfable. I can see you hold our FM in contempt. That's up to you. I don't, she has been excellent for us. And I'm glad we have her.

OP posts:
Report
Tonz · 12/05/2020 20:54

I don't see how she is in the wrong for reassuring Scotland she was investigating the claims. She had to. If you don't like Nicola that's fine but that's not a fair example to pick

So you are happy with insufficient PPE, less testing than England, higher R0, with taking longer than England to identify vulnerable people/set up volunteer databases/send out food boxes? And you think waiting until after lock down (instigated by BJ) to even set up an advisory group was a good idea?

I guess you think the mess of the curriculum for excellence, ASN education, named persons, ferries and children's hospitals are all examples of how wonderful she is too?

Report
EdwinaMay · 12/05/2020 21:03

Making clear statements about staying home is ok but when people are ill with mental health problems, or dying for lack of funding for whatever health care, depressed through long term unemployment - all of this very likely in Scotland before too long - are we are all going to say wasn't NS wonderful for doing nowt. I dont' think so.

Report
Tonz · 12/05/2020 21:16

I'm pretty sure England was also complaining about insufficient PPE and lack of testing or am I missing something.
It was handled terribly in the whole of Britain not just Scotland.
I'm very happy with my children's education but then again education is a separate issue to what the ops post was about

Report
ssd · 13/05/2020 00:08

No I didn't mention education.
If aesop doesn't like NS, I don't actually give a rats arse.
I like her and I'm glad she's where she is.

We’re keeping up with both Boris’ and Nicola updates, we live in Scotland but DP works in London. So he’ll be going back to work soon, whereas I’m shielding so stuck in til god knows when.

Boris is very very waffley. Nicola seems more clear and concise and confident. I can imagine having a good conversation with Nicola, with Boris I’d be nodding and mhming the full time.

Plus Nicola has great shoes. Don’t think I’ve seen her wear the same pair twice during this pandemic!

Boris clearly social distances with his barber!
Nicola I'm thinking the hairdresser gets heck off a close!

Wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her.
Everything is her hidden agenda Covid is going to be a brilliant excuse to hide all the SNP fuckups. Education did someone mention a CfE review that's delayed to after the election. 30 hours nursery education delayed indefinitely.
Did Scotland even have a PPE stockpile?

Hello from Wales! I think the media is also massively to blame for sending mixed messages. Politicians can only do so much but rags like The Sun writing last week that pubs would be open this week and a whole load of other false information is just irresponsible. There is obviously more media coverage of Bojo & therefore more people picking holes in everything he/the Tories say. That being said, many people in England (and those in Wales who forget it’s different) seem confused by the new ease in restrictions because MPs are going on TV and saying completely different things. They need to be singing from the same hymn sheet.

My main concern is that we’ll see an influx of visitors from across the boarder to rural areas because of the difference in rules between us and that will just encourage the Covidiots in Wales to drive for exercise even though they have been told not to (‘Well, the English are here, so why can’t we,’ etc. You can just imagine) . Here, you must stay local for exercise but obviously that’s now changed for England. I live 10 mins drive from the Brecon Beacons, I also live in the area with the health board that has the highest number of cases in Wales. Could do with not adding to those cases.

I think Nicola has been a fantastic leader throughout the pandemic. Clear, concise, decisive. She has a air of gravitas about her that is lacking in Westminster. She hasn't mentioned Scottish independence once in all this. She has really stepped up as a leader and Scotland generally appear to be trusting her government right now.

And I voted to stay in the union at the indyref, and would vote the same way again. I don't agree with her independent stance. But in saying that, she's been one hell of a leader, especially compared to some of the others

Again with the jibe about her hair. Her husband is cutting her hair and she is cutting his - just like loads of other couples up and down the country - I have perfected the fade at the back of DHs head.

Less said about Boris's heid the bettee

Oh I love the way Scottish people talk. I was talking to my gran in Scotland on the phone last night and I asked her if she thought Boris was doing a better job than Nicola and she said "His erse is oot the windae" 😂😂😂 apparently it means he's talking shite. Love it
