Thank God we've got Nicola Sturgeon.

She's not perfect, no politician is.

But she's straight and clear and concise.

People in Scotland know very very little has changed.

Westminster are really showing their true colours. No wonder we have 30,000 plus deaths. Fucking shambles.

I have always said that I would vote for NS if it wasnt for her politics (Scottish independence). I think she is clear, focused and articulate.

Sadly I live in SE England so this is unlikely to ever be relevant to me.

But jfc the waffle from BoJo yesterday was disgraceful.

Bojo said in England you can have unlimited exercise Nicola said if you want to go out more than once a day to exercise you can, amounts to the same thing doesnt it just said in different ways?

Hadenoughfornow · 12/05/2020 07:25

Concerned yep! The only thing that is really different is that in Scotland you can't go to work on a construction site for example.

I am interested how Sturgeon will manage the lifting of lockdown.

And how she will communicate the message.

I do think she has communicated better than Bkris throughout this. She is a much better communicator.

But I don't think I am any more in danger living in my wee part of England compared to Scotland.

I think if you're sensible you'll be as safe as possible anywhere, it's just Johnsons message seems so unclear I hope many won't pick and choose what suits them and their circumstances and try to take it a bit further.
I feel NS is telling us what to do in a clear manner, no ambiguity at all.

I am sorry that my elderly dad in Scotland can't meet family on his own at a distance. He's really lonely. So I'm not in favour of things which don't allow freedom of choice to make sensible decisions, and use common sense no.

NS is miffed she isn't being involved in Downing St decisions. So starts off with a negative take on bojo's ideas.

If NS thinks the scottish economy can recover from this, especially wth the oil price so low, she is in for a shock.
She can claim she is putting safety first but you can bet the next speech will include people getting back to work.

Nicola Sturgeon wanted us to have an “adult conversation” about Covid just a couple of weeks ago but now she is struggling to understand what “stay alert” means. 🤷‍♀️

You’ve missed out the delay to the Scottish Education review (the unmitigated disaster that is the Curriculum for Excellence) until June 2021. Conveniently after the Holyrood elections.

She's communicated better than Boris, and she's coming across as someone who can deliver a message, but she's only interested in independence and will try to cash in on how crap Boris is at communication to get independence. Or how crap anyone is at anything (to get Independence).

Report
Tonz · 12/05/2020 18:37

I haven't heard her mention independence for a long time. Boris doesn't need bashing he's perfectly capable of making an idiot of himself

Report
LetsJustGetOnWithIt · 12/05/2020 18:40

She's not mentioned it but don't for one minute forget it is her life's work. I'm also not a fan of Boris.

The reason lockdown is continuing in Scotland for longer is due to the absolute mess NS and chums have made of the care home infections in Scotland which are vastly worse than in England.

Somehow the hard of thinking on Mumsnet consider her cautious approach to be a positive rather than a reflection of the mess she and her government has made of bringing infection rates down.

A perfect example of style over substance.

Tonz · 12/05/2020 18:45

Boris hasn't exactly done a great job either though has he.

Report
Tonz · 12/05/2020 18:51

I don't understand why independence keeps being brought up.
The Op said thank god we have Nicola because of how clear she is being about what we have to keep doing during this pandemic. All the talk about independence is irrelevant

Forgone90 · 12/05/2020 18:54

The reason the deaths are so high is we have a hige population in a tiny area... Looks at deaths per million not total deaths... I can't stand sturgeon just constant point scoring.. So desperate to be out of the kingdom... Jog on then!

Sorry for the rant she just really annoys me!

Report
Forgone90 · 12/05/2020 18:55

And as others have said if Scotland hadn't made such a mess of the care home situation the numbers would be much less!

Report
Tonz · 12/05/2020 18:59

40% of covid deaths in England and Wales have been in care homes so I wouldn't say Boris is doing that much better when it comes to care homes

@Tonz it's because it's all she's ever banged on about for years. To me, it's all she stands for.

She will use anything, including a pandemic, or her supposed handling of it, to try for another referendum and unfortunately Boris being so crap doesn't make her any more capable or trustworthy than she was before.

For me to say "thank goodness we have NS", she'd need to do more than read out a clear statement.

During the pandemic she hasn't mentioned independence and I read ops post to be thank god we have her through this. I don't really care about independence and if it's brought up again after the pandemic then that's a separate issue to why we are glad we have her right now. I don't mind Boris but he always leaves me scratching me head thinking eh! Whereas with Nicola I know exactly what she is saying. They are totally different in terms of how they get their message across. I've never liked Nicola to be honest but right now I'm happy to listen to her

I'm in England and I think Nicola makes more sense than Boris. He just waffles on and on
