Now that Boris has said people can drive for exercise and leisure, you know they'll flock to seaside's, lakes, peaks, etc.
Which means if they're carriers they'll be spreading the virus to petrol stations pumps, gates, railings etc.

I don't get the logic behind him saying that tbh.

I live in the Lakes and feel sad that our peace and quiet is likely to end but it is possible to manage the gate thing. I've got quite adept at opening kissing gates with my arse and using minimal touch approaches to opening others. If all else fails you can use hand sanitizer/wash your hands.

Our local walks have a few gates (kissing and latched) and stiles, we've got very good at getting through/over without touching them with our hands. A stick helps a lot.

I could drive to the lakes and have a long walk within my bladder capacity and not touch anything... but I won't because there's nice enough places near home which won't be busy.

@wanderlove

Hear hear!

The Lakes are stunning and Chatsworth in the Peak District is well worth a visit. I’m sure in every area with tourism the locals get a bit irritated but I agree that Devon and Cornwall seem to be in a league of their own.

But if you’re choosing where to go I’d recommend both the Peak District and the Lake District. Quite different but both equally worth a trip. There’s a lovely village somewhere in the Peak District that sells Blue John stone jewellery. It’s really lovely. Same place has an excellent shop where they make fudge.

After COVID!

Castleton?

MMN123 · 11/05/2020 00:48

Yes! Castleton! Always very crowded but I’ve got a lovely collection of Blue John - had never heard of it before going there!

Hopefully this picture will illustrate why most of us in Aberystwyth (local hospital - Bronglais) do not want visitors at this time. We have one hospital covering a huge area, and it's a relatively small hospital at that. It's not a case of being selfish and not wanting to share our beaches and countryside.

People living in tourist spots should probably be concerned right now.
Flaxmeadow · 11/05/2020 00:55

Hey OP

We won't visit your rural enclaves and you don't visit our supermarkets, shops, markets, theatres, cinemas, restaurants, nightclubs, petrol stations, motorways, airports, universities, hospitals...

Is that a deal?

ExhaustedGrinch · 11/05/2020 00:55

(Don't think picture loaded? will try again)

@MMN 123
Take the train, brings you right into the city centre, enjoy Edinburgh when you come, it’s a fabulous city!

Easilyanxious · 11/05/2020 01:00

New exercising comes in on weds I expect there will be restrictions on how far you can travel ,guess we will see tomorrow

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2020 01:03

During the covid crisis (which is the only time that the tourist areas don't want visitors) ... country folk can't visit any of those places so sure, deal. Confused

MMN123 · 11/05/2020 01:03

@Fi57 Thanks! Looking forward to it!

Flaxmeadow · 11/05/2020 01:06

You can visit them now.

Easilyanxious · 11/05/2020 01:07

I think some people Cornwall and Devin seem to forget that grockles and emmits as they call people are there bread and butter
It's fine to be scared but also should be careful what you wish for if people don't come back in good numbers when it's over that could have a huge impact as well

TheSandman · 11/05/2020 01:07

Sorry posted link without explanation.

It would appear that Police Scotland are prepared to stop people driving over the border from England unless they have a damn good reason.

Easilyanxious · 11/05/2020 01:10

@Thesandman that's fair enough as long as they will be stopping it both ways

Easilyanxious · 11/05/2020 01:14

@Serin guess ok for men they can use a bottle , us woman may have to take a bottle and a funnel or tena pants may be the next thing sold out
But seriously I fully expect the driving for excercise will be restricted to a certain amount of miles as it's not allowed until weds so tomorrow prob be more clarification

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2020 01:16

You can visit them now.
The ones that people 'visit' analagous to visiting beauty spots aren't open.
Most shops, markets, theatres, cinemas, restaurants, nightclubs... you missed museums.

TheSandman · 11/05/2020 01:24

@Easilyanxious Why would anyone want to go the other way? Grin

Flaxmeadow · 11/05/2020 01:27

The ones that people 'visit' analagous to visiting beauty spots aren't open

Ok then, just stay out of supermarkets, public transport, workplaces, oh and don't use the roads here either, for anything

Is that better?

ToffeeYoghurt · 11/05/2020 01:31

I can understand Scotland wanting to keep people from more infected England out. But, genuine question, would that be legal?
I already wonder about the seaside police in England. Are they acting legally? The large cities have flights arriving daily as yet with no checks or quarantine of any type. Apparently it's been hundreds of thousands over the past two or three months. Is there special extra protection for some areas?

And on that note. Are Scotland's airports still operating? Because if they are what point in turning away a few motorists?

Grinch It was London's hospitals that couldn't cope. Because a few more hospitals there doesn't add up to enough when it's 9 million people all squashed in to high density housing. It wouldn't ever spread as fast or easily in sparsely populated rural areas because of the nature of spread out housing and people. It was talked about on another thread yesterday. How it was in London (and I think Birmingham too) where hospitals weren't taking patients in early enough (hence the very high death rate there) because of no capacity.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2020 01:32

Don't be ridiculous, if people work in town of course they need to go there. Just as anyone who lives in a town who works in the countryside does, or those people who need to work in different parts of the country can travel.

ToffeeYoghurt · 11/05/2020 01:34

And cities across the UK (including London) are also tourist spots. Very busy ones.
