People living in tourist spots should probably be concerned right now.

Now that Boris has said people can drive for exercise and leisure, you know they'll flock to seaside's, lakes, peaks, etc.
Which means if they're carriers they'll be spreading the virus to petrol stations pumps, gates, railings etc.

I don't get the logic behind him saying that tbh.

Thanks for the kind words, it means a lot. We just have seen such terrible things, it sounds strange but it’s unnatural for this many people to die at once. Like everyone’s in grief, it shouldn’t happen. People carted off in ambulances, people not seeing loved ones in ICU, people being moved to the hospital bloody miles away in a different county cos ours doesn’t have the right departments.... I’m so angry at C19. Once this is all over I’m having a massive drink Wine

Notmyrealname855 · 10/05/2020 23:51

Oh god and a cancer survivor who kicked it, she’s just died of C19. COVID can bloody trot on Angry

CochonDinde · 10/05/2020 23:53

I live in the Lake District and there's already been a shedload of posts on social media from people excited they're "allowed" to travel here again. I've got a horrible feeling that the worst is yet to come Sad

Bluewarbler27 · 10/05/2020 23:54

Washing hands is still one of the most important pieces of advice so even if someone with the virus touches a petrol pump fir example and if you’re unlucky enough to touch the pump and get it in your hand as long as you wash your hands you’ll be fine.

@monkeytoesofdoom

No, not detailed research on the economy. I know how poor many locals are because my family were those locals. I spend childhood holidays there. I’ve tended towards UK holidays because I have chosen to support the British economy - so for every 10 uk trips I probably do one abroad. That’s an active choice. And when I go abroad that is a factor for me, yes. I often choose to go places where they need more visitors. Personal choice but no different to people choosing a car because it’s ‘green’ or not visiting countries with serious human rights violations. Not sure why you think it strange.

I like nice places. I like feeling that I’m going places that need visitors and buying stuff local people need to sell to live well. I went to Greece twice the year their economy went to hell in a handcart. Each to their own.

The rules on visiting second homes or holiday premises hasn't changed... it's still not essential travel.

@ RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime

Yes, that would be a weird thing to do.

ModernMilli · 11/05/2020 00:02

Devolved Wales is still in lockdown for 3 weeks and then it will be reviewed again and the police here are stopping cars regularly.

MMN123 · 11/05/2020 00:04

@ Notmyrealname855

Yes I think it’s the randomness that makes it feel so unfair. Expect every family has someone at high risk and so a hugely worrying time. Equally we can’t all stay home forever so as it becomes better understood hopefully we can slowly make informed choices about acceptable risks. Life will go on, but what a strange time we are living through!

Do you enjoy lording it over the peasantry?
Is that what it is?

"Look at me, wealthy English person choosing to come to your poor town to provide £300 toward your £19Billion tourist economy. Worship me."

I'd be careful about going Greece tho. My aunt's husband is from a small town in Greece, he hated the tourists in summer, they're rude and don't understand the culture, especially Americans. He's much happier in Milton Keynes, no tourists.. 😝

Oh you do make laugh... Thank you for that your most generous and holy of highest mortals. I'll give you the clap on Thursday...

@Yankathebear, emmits? Is that a derogatory name for tourists? You won’t be so bloody smug when no one decides to visit in the future! I live in Edinburgh and while most of us Edinburgers moan about tourists especially during the festival I can assure you that no one does not want tourists to come back! In fact this city bloody relies on them! Iv never been to Cornwall, always wanted to visit but if your attitude is the norm then I won’t waste my time.

MMN123 · 11/05/2020 00:14

@Fi57

I’m going to visit Edinburgh for the first time after COVID - it’s top of our list of places to visit when the world reopens!!

Do you think it’s worth getting the Caledonian Sleeper? We’ve been debating train or air travel!

Serin · 11/05/2020 00:17

All these people heading for days out, where will they wee?
All the toilets and cafes will be closed. Confused

PeppermintPasty · 11/05/2020 00:20

Gosh, the use of emmet in Cornwall is long-standing, I know people who used it in the 50s. It’s not only used to mean tourists, but also generally ‘incomers’ (like myself) who have settled here.

My dad asked his dear friend in the village about it once, who laughed and said he’s still referred to as an incomer, and his family came here in the 30s!

Most people ignore it, I imagine most holiday places have names for tourists in high season, I’m sure some of them will be far more offensive!

You get ignorant parochial people everywhere. I’ve reminded one or two I’ve come across that without incomers and so on, their village would literally fail and die away. Ignore the ignorant and don’t be offended by them, most of them are thick as pudding!

BoomBoomsCousin · 11/05/2020 00:20

@supermanisdead

The problem is if one person infects 127 people in London, the hospitals are far better equipped to cope.

Except it was the big city hospitals that were expected to get overwhelmed and no one seemed to care that stopping people leaving the city for any form of exercise meant more people squashed closer together in the city.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 11/05/2020 00:21

All these people heading for days out, where will they wee?

Bushes. Trees. Sides of roads.
In little holes they dig.

Emmet means ant in old English doesn't it?
So the tourists are like ants??

VerticalHorizon · 11/05/2020 00:24

And you do know that catching it from a inanimate object is highly unlikely and even if you do the viral load would be so low as you’d not get symptoms or have just very mild ones,

The prevalence of transmission via materials or surfaces isn't known nor is the minimum infectious dose, but it's been assumed to be about 100 particles - which can be picked up from a surface.

Serin · 11/05/2020 00:25

MonkeyToesOfDoom
Well as long as they wash their hands then. Hmm

lakeswimmer · 11/05/2020 00:28

I live in the Lakes and feel sad that our peace and quiet is likely to end but it is possible to manage the gate thing. I've got quite adept at opening kissing gates with my arse and using minimal touch approaches to opening others. If all else fails you can use hand sanitizer/wash your hands.

MMN123 · 11/05/2020 00:29

@MonkeyToesOfDoom

Not sure anyone will want to visit you if you give them the clap. Covid is bad enough......

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 11/05/2020 00:30

If there's a stream nearby I'll give them a quick rinse. Otherwise, wiped on my thighs and crack on. It's not all glamour being a hiker.

It must be absolutely fantastic with nobody around - so peaceful!

wanderlove · 11/05/2020 00:32

It really upsets me the 'I'm alright Jack' attitude of those who live in beauty spots with lots of space. Yes it was awful when people were visiting when they shouldn't--but now the risk has been seen as lower. Don't you have any empathy for people who have been stuck in flats for the last 50 days? Our national parks were established for everyone, not just the priveleged few who live there. We pay a lot of money to visit Cornwall every year: the way I have seen tourists spoken about on here is awful and has really put me off. We save all year to spend money on a cottage and restaurants. According to another poster Cumbria doesn't have a horrid word for Tourists and altho the Lakes have been closed to visitors I haven't seen the same disdain and vitriol spouted about tourists. It makes me much more keen to visit the lakes when it opens and really puts me off Cornwall

maria860 · 11/05/2020 00:34

OP is right everyone wants to flock to the beach on my Facebook it's laughable nothing was said about the beach that I saw
