WTF was that all about?

So if you can’t work from home you should go to work.

Does that apply to the beauty industry or hospitality industry or what?

And wtf does it mean for seeing family??? 🤨🤦‍♀️

Nillynally · 10/05/2020 19:24

Clear as mud

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 10/05/2020 19:24

And what about over 80s? The people shielding?

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 10/05/2020 19:24

70s

PianoTuner567 · 10/05/2020 19:24

I thought that was already the rule. One of the four reasons we can leave home is to go to work, if you can’t work from home.

pmdw · 10/05/2020 19:25

He said hospitality industry will open, at the earliest, in July. Depending on how things progress.

Girlymom2 · 10/05/2020 19:25

Yeah the actual workers wasn’t very clear at all!! Neither was can we see our relatives or if not when? 🤦‍♀️

Buggedandconfused · 10/05/2020 19:26

He hadn’t a clue himself. So confusing!

AlbusBumblebee · 10/05/2020 19:27

If I want to get on a train tomorrow to go and see what the supermarkets, garden centres and chemists in the next town along have to offer, can I do that?

Bearbehind · 10/05/2020 19:28

He did mention construction and manufacturing but it’s far easier to social distance in those industries than say beauty.

I know he did mention restaurants etc but there’s a lot more people who need some clarity.

And what about childminders - should they work or not?

OP posts:
Confusedbutheyho · 10/05/2020 19:28

Keir Starmer just saying on the news that millions of people in certain industries will be on 12 hours notice to go to work tomorrow without clear guidelines and logistically difficult asking those not to use public transport!

cushioncovers · 10/05/2020 19:28

I understood it to be that you should work from home and if you can't then you should go to work but only as long as your workplace has provided the correct social distancing measures.

Stellaris22 · 10/05/2020 19:29

That was so unhelpful. Said he would make more announcements in Parliament while saying people can go back to work tomorrow. Other than construction workers, who?

The vagueness is deliberate to shift blame and to blame employers and working environments rather than themselves. It's just so dangerous.

StormBaby · 10/05/2020 19:29

I have literally no idea if I'm going to be called in to work, or not. Confused Furniture retailer, working in logistics. Who knows?

stopandListen · 10/05/2020 19:31

I missed the first 3 minutes did he say anything about his "social bubble" from what I gather there was no change really. More confused now than before!

Flaxmeadow · 10/05/2020 19:32

Does that apply to the beauty industry or hospitality industry or what

No that's hospitality and non essential

Did you watch it?

Manufacturing and construction etc back to work
Avoid public transport
Non essential shops still closed for now,
Fines to increase
Unlimited exercise
Can sit in parks
Schools to open by phases in June (if all goes well)
Some hospitality, pubs, restaurants etc july (if all goes well )
Still practice social distance
Non essential shops June if all goes well

Tink1990 · 10/05/2020 19:32

What the bloody hell!! That was not even a message, just a load of mumbling!! To give people 12 hours notice to go back to work, without even being specific is ridiculous. I am honestly stunned.

cushioncovers · 10/05/2020 19:33

Storm have your employers been in touch to say they have altered the workplace to abide by the social distancing measures ? Unless they have then I'm guessing you won't be at work tomorrow

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/05/2020 19:33

I work in manufacturing but we sell to high street shops, so until they're open then we've got hardly any work.

MamaWeasel · 10/05/2020 19:35

Thank you Flaxmeadow, that's very helpful 🙂

Bearbehind · 10/05/2020 19:36

flax - yes I watched it

There was no mention of going to work only it it was essential.

It was only if you can’t do it from home

Plenty of people in nonessential industries can’t work from home

What does this mean for them?

OP posts:
CallMeOnMyCell · 10/05/2020 19:39

Sorry if this is a stupid question but what does this mean for seeing family? I assume we still can’t...

nolovelost · 10/05/2020 19:40

It's clear. Nothing has changed work wise. If you can work from home -do.

attackedbycritters · 10/05/2020 19:40

Unless your work is compelled to be closed, or can not support social distancing/ provide suitable PPE then you should be working . at home if possible or else going to work.

Why is this hard to understand?

nolovelost · 10/05/2020 19:41

No you can't see family. Not much has changed, but we knew this was going to be the case.
