So if you can’t work from home you should go to work.

Does that apply to the beauty industry or hospitality industry or what?

@OldQueen1969 what does your shop sell?

If it's food and drink, then now as long as you can make it safe for social distancing

If it's retail the. Maybe 1st June dependent on state of the virus and R

Confusedbutheyho · 10/05/2020 19:54

@nolovelost

There is a huge change with millions in certain industries told to go to work as from next week.

17million · 10/05/2020 19:55

why are you finding it so hard to understand? Did you really expect a detailed explanation of 'everything' in the space of a very short address. I understood what he was getting at and I am over 70.
It is still lockdown, it is still social distancing but where places of work can protect their employees and maintain a safe working environment there is some relaxation. (ditto for schools)
the fine detail will be worked out - we all need to get behind doing the best we can to get the country moving towards some kind of normal Hmm

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 10/05/2020 19:55

@OldQueen1969 clothing and lifestyle would be "non-essential" so maybe 1st June.

torthecatlady · 10/05/2020 19:55

@Waxonwaxoff0 I also work in manufacturing for (a very specific kind of) retail shop. Until they open, I doubt we will as there will be no business. Also we cannot really maintain social distancing in our workplace 🤷‍♀️

OldQueen1969 · 10/05/2020 19:56

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50

It's clothing and accessories and lifestyle orientated. If I throw in a cuppa would that count? (Only half kidding).

Derbygerbil · 10/05/2020 19:56

I understood the work message to be related to those business that are not currently closed by law. So basically as per the old guidelines, if your business is allowed to be open and you cannot work from home then you should be back at work.

^
This, but it wasn’t clear at all... He should have swapped the exercise and work arrangements around.... exercise from tomorrow and work on Wednesday once full guidance was out.

WoahBodyforrrm · 10/05/2020 19:56

I'm on chemo and my 12yo DS is a severe asthmatic so we're both on the shielding list.

I actually cried when he finished. It's like we've been forgotten or more likely, as the drains on the NHS and therefore society, we don't matter.

I know we are in until the end of June anyway but he's not even given us an idea of what may come next.

I understand the situation is such an unknown for them but in my eyes, they've set out a 'plan' for the general public reiterating that if the numbers rise, changes may be put in place, so why couldn't he let us know what may lie in store for the rest of us?

Tomorrow will be our 10th week in (I pulled my kids out early as I was concerned, more so because of my sons health) and just an vague idea of what is next would have been nice.

It's made me feel really down.

Mumintherain · 10/05/2020 19:56

Ok so... can my cleaner come and clean my house now? And can I drive to the beach and sit there? These are the only two things I really miss I know neither are essential so probably not... I’m not sure how I am going to drive my sons to school ( takes about 30min One way with normal morning traffic) and at the same time continue to homeschool my daughter in June.. I think we will need a lot of clarification the next few weeks.

cushioncovers · 10/05/2020 19:56

Bear to answer your question on who can go back to work, it seems to be people in manufacturing and construction but only if their workplace is Covid secure.

Devlesko · 10/05/2020 19:57

Flaxmeadow. They don't read so well, neither.

Here is the list, there was nothing else mentioned that will be part of another stage maybe once down to 3.
Asking "what about" is pointless, he doesn't have the answers Grin
If it's not on the list it doesn't apply yet.

Manufacturing and construction etc back to work
Avoid public transport
Non essential shops still closed for now,
Fines to increase
Unlimited exercise
Can sit in parks
Schools to open by phases in June (if all goes well)
Some hospitality, pubs, restaurants etc july (if all goes well )
Still practice social distance
Non essential shops June if all goes well

ProseccoSupernova · 10/05/2020 19:58

Mumintherain... pretty sure your cleaner could have come round for the last six weeks as long as you left her to it and kept 2m away. The advice was always that people could go to work if that work can’t be done from home. They really couldn’t be more clear on that.

Missushbb · 10/05/2020 19:58

Yes, no consideration to those shielding, my husband is shielding and was horrified

smokescreen · 10/05/2020 19:58

So Zara, Topshop and Primark still aren't opening anytime soon? 😩

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 10/05/2020 19:59

@muminrain you're cleaner has always been allowed to work as they cannot work at home and are not on the closed list.

Also according to what he said yes you would be able to drive to the beach from Wednesday I suspect when the guidance is produced over the next 2 days there will be some limits in place re distance to avoid everyone heading to Cornwall, Skegness etc

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/05/2020 19:59

I’d like to know if my cleaner can come. Very confusing. Mobile hairdresser?

nolovelost · 10/05/2020 19:59

So who has been telling you that you can go back to work?

Tonii1985 · 10/05/2020 20:00

Using family members for childcare purposes for children under 4?
Happy to go back to work, just not sure how...

Maxandezra · 10/05/2020 20:00

that was absolute shit show. I can not believe how we are being treated by the government. Being told absolutely nothing and treated like a bunch of toddlers. It has actually made me so angry. It has however confrimed that I will not be listening to a word they say in the future.

Flaxmeadow · 10/05/2020 20:00

Ok so... can my cleaner come and clean my house now? And can I drive to the beach and sit there?

No, they were not part of the changes. They are non essential

Exercise is now unlimited (walking, cycling or running), but now you can also sit in the park, or on a bench.

JKScot4 · 10/05/2020 20:00

This basically 🙄

WTF was that all about?
TheABC · 10/05/2020 20:01

So, there's a chance that parents in the manufacturing sector have just been given 12 hours notice to go back to work with no schools (unless the criteria have changed?), no paid childcare available and they cannot use friends or relatives either.

Hmmm.

Bearbehind · 10/05/2020 20:01

No, they were not part of the changes. They are non essential

Where exactly did he mention anything about only being able to go to work if your work is essential?

OP posts:
R1R2 · 10/05/2020 20:01

Guidance on work has not changed at all not a single thing has changed the fact most people are willfully ignorant and need to be spoon fed is really tiring.

feelsoshitnow · 10/05/2020 20:02

It still doesn't make sense (yes I listened and understood.

"Avoid public transport", well my DH is a bus driver, so if he goes to work he can't avoid it... I suppose the answer would be 'well, he needs to go to work', but that's not possible!

The company is running a skeleton service, all office staff and nearly all the drivers have been furloughed. If they all have to go back, the company will go under, as they cannot run bus routes if no one is using them, as they've been told not to!
