So if you can’t work from home you should go to work.

Does that apply to the beauty industry or hospitality industry or what?

Can I keep my haircut appointment on 21st May????????????????

Bluntness100 · 10/05/2020 20:32

How the fucking hell are manufacturing businesses supposed to restart when their distribution channels and retail outlets are shut

Most manufacturers don’t rely on shops any more, it’s online or even home visits (Ie home improvements) . Distribution has never stopped. Or shouldn’t have,

I’m also wanting to know about hairdressers.

middleager · 10/05/2020 20:33

It was confusing.
There will be employers who will use this to bring staff back, even when the workplace is not ready.

Will a worker with a Y1 child have to go in (even though they may have a y3 or nursery child still at home?)

We are told the detail will follow, but that won't help those who are being called in with 12 hours' notice.

middleager · 10/05/2020 20:34

The second point relates to June 1st.

feelsoshitnow · 10/05/2020 20:36

@ JKScot4 Sad I had hoped to be able to see my parents (both over 75, dad has terminal cancer), and my son soon. I had hoped things were going to get better, it's a real shit show! x

Nicedayforawedding · 10/05/2020 20:37

Not sure how any of this will work with parents with three children and only one child back in school with employers expecting people to return.

Very confusing. And why reception and year 1? I can’t understand it at all.

Ineedtobecalm · 10/05/2020 20:38

I'm not sure I want my year 6 DD to go back on June 1st.

I'm wondering about my work and who will be told they have to come in and who will be told to stay at home. I think it's going to cause some resentment for the ones who have to go in.

I hope it's clearer tomorrow

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 20:39

Feel. It’s the virus that has done this, not the government. I am really sorry households cannot now mix but households mixing are the biggest risk of all.

BackInTime · 10/05/2020 20:40

How did we end up with these ignorant clowns running the country?

Remember that they were elected with an overwhelming majority

userxx · 10/05/2020 20:42

There will be employers who will use this to bring staff back, even when the workplace is not ready.

What's the alternative, Businesses close down permanently?

Hellothere19999 · 10/05/2020 20:44

It wasn’t that difficult to understand and he said he will explain more tomorrow. Duhhhhhhhhhh

palacegirl77 · 10/05/2020 20:45

@nolovelost
So you say "It's clear. Nothing has changed work wise. If you can work from home -do." - can you clarify for me then, can Dentists open from tomorrow? We own a dental lab, we are shut because we have no business - but if you think its all clear youll be able to clarify this for me - if you could let me know I'll give my staff a ring and ask them to come in.

What a load of old b* that was. That man is a massive, massive risk to this country.

Stellaris22 · 10/05/2020 20:48

Considering the ethics of employers like Sports Direct and Wetherspoons I find this all very worrying for the safety of employees now. How many employers are going to make people work in unsafe conditions now?

palacegirl77 · 10/05/2020 20:48

oh @hellothere19999 perhaps you can enlighten me - we are in manufacturing - can dentists work or not? Can we work or not? Dentists dont work, neither do we.

StormBaby · 10/05/2020 20:48

@cushioncovers we've had weekly updates saying what they are putting in place PPE wise, but until it's safe for a team of driver and mate to enter customers hones for prolonged periods, my job is not there really

Hellothere19999 · 10/05/2020 20:52

I repeat..... he said he will explain more tomorrow 🧐

HolidayLetter · 10/05/2020 20:58

WTAF?

So am I going to have any guests, or not? I will only be able to have guests if there is something for them to do once they are on holiday. Will the cafes, shops, restaurants etc be open, or not? Half open? How is a restaurant owner supposed to earn a living from a half-open restaurant?

I despair.

baroqueandblue · 10/05/2020 20:59

I repeat..... he said he will explain more tomorrow 🧐

So then what was the point of saying anything at all today? Just playing with people for his own sense of self-importance, that's what his sort do. Don't defend him, he's a c*nt

Missteebeee · 10/05/2020 21:00

Nannies can’t socially distance

We are mixing households

vera99 · 10/05/2020 21:01

Good luck everybody, make sure you have plenty of paracetamol and make sure you wash your hands. Elvis has left the building....

JKScot4 · 10/05/2020 21:01

@BackInTime
17m voted for them 18m didn’t.
I hope some Tory voters have woke up.

palacegirl77 · 10/05/2020 21:08

If he is clarifying tomorrow do we tell our staff to come in or not???

(Obviously we have told them of course not to, because we actually care about them and are in no way prepared for them to be at work). Dont defend the indefensible.

Cusano34 · 10/05/2020 21:11

@WoahBodyforrrm Sad I thought exactly the same. I was really surprised he didn't even mention the people on the shielding list or the vulnerable groups. I am not one of them but I really feel he should have acknowledged those people.

I hope you are doing ok in isolation and keeping positive xxx

Shahira78 · 10/05/2020 21:14

Like I said to my husband before the briefing, the message will be 'just continue doing what you're doing'!

pennylane83 · 10/05/2020 21:15

I don't really get the confusion, surely that was a back to work and lifting the lockdowm message

If thats the case then there wouldn't be the 5 phases, where we are currently at phase 4 and moving into phase 3 over the coming weeks, we'd just jump straight to phase 1.
