So if you can’t work from home you should go to work.

Does that apply to the beauty industry or hospitality industry or what?

OP posts:
userxx · 10/05/2020 19:41

thought that was already the rule. One of the four reasons we can leave home is to go to work, if you can’t work from home.

It was, so many businesses closed shop straight away when they didn't need to. He should have made it clearer weeks ago.

Bearbehind · 10/05/2020 19:42

It's clear. Nothing has changed work wise. If you can work from home -do.

And what if you can’t?

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 10/05/2020 19:42

Manufacturing and construction etc back to work

He used those as examples only. He was very clear. If you can’t work from home, then everyone should go to work.

What he didn’t say was what should remain closed. Hopefully that’s clarified tomorrow. I think it’s non essential shops and hospitality

The beauty industry is not hospitality.

Bearbehind · 10/05/2020 19:43

Unless your work is compelled to be closed

And which industries are now compelled to be closed?

OP posts:
Stellaris22 · 10/05/2020 19:43

If you can't you'll be 'actively encouraged'. Lovely.

Wingedharpy · 10/05/2020 19:43

How does social distancing work on the bus and train?

Will there be punch ups at bus stops as people aren't allowed to get on?

The police are going to be busy methinks.

nolovelost · 10/05/2020 19:43

Yes it was already a rule. Seems like so many people were expecting different, and a very unrealistic view. Frustrating though.

nolovelost · 10/05/2020 19:45

@Bearbehind then the government continue to help as they have been doing. Nothing has changed.

Bluntness100 · 10/05/2020 19:46

And which industries are now compelled to be closed?

I agree he should have stated that.

As said, I suspect it’s the initial list of non essential shops, pubs clubs.but he didn’t clarify. Hopefully tomorrow the data will come out. As he is giving detail in the house then answering questions at the press conference in the evening.

I think this was a heads up it’s back to work.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 10/05/2020 19:47

Basically, everything has been built up to this big moment this evening for us to be told that nothing has changed except that it is now permitted for everyone to do what they've already been doing re going to parks, etc.

Oh, and we're all in lockdown forever now, with no glimmer of things changing before about July.

What a crock of shit.

homemadecommunistrussia · 10/05/2020 19:47

It was rather vague. No mention of socialising at all.

KuckFnows · 10/05/2020 19:47

It was crystal clear and yes, social distancing was mentioned

Nonnymum · 10/05/2020 19:47

You csnt see relatives unless they live in your household. You can go out as many times as you want and play some sports but only with your household. You still have to stay 2 m away from others.
I suspect some written guidance will come out next week after it's been discussed in Parliament.
So really not much has changed. But I think the unclear strap line and confusing message will make some people think they can do whatever they want now.
I see a spike in cases in a couple of weeks especially after the VE day street parties

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 10/05/2020 19:48

@CallMeOnMyCell he said that lockdown cannot be ended at this point so rules for meeting with people who are not part of your household still stand.

Derbygerbil · 10/05/2020 19:48

And wtf does it mean for seeing family???

Sadly, nothing’s changed on that.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 10/05/2020 19:48

Why can’t it just be clear? Hopefully they will have something up on internet detailing the ins and outs but with this shitshow? Doubt it?

OldQueen1969 · 10/05/2020 19:48

I'd like clarification on what is essential work too.

When can independent "non-essential" shops open again?

userxx · 10/05/2020 19:49

2020 has been a shit year so far.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 10/05/2020 19:50

I understood the work message to be related to those business that are not currently closed by law. So basically as per the old guidelines, if your business is allowed to be open and you cannot work from home then you should be back at work.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/full-guidance-on-staying-at-home-and-away-from-others/full-guidance-on-staying-at-home-and-away-from-others#closing-certain-businesses-and-venues

Nonnymum · 10/05/2020 19:50

And which industries are now compelled to be closed?
The hospitality industry and anything related to hospitality or entertainment. The service and entertainment sector is huge.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 10/05/2020 19:51

All that talk about garden centres in the press and unless I missed it, they weren't part of the speech were they?

Bearbehind · 10/05/2020 19:51

It was crystal clear and yes, social distancing was mentioned

OK, if it was ‘crystal clear’ - who can go to work tomorrow and who can’t?

OP posts:
OldQueen1969 · 10/05/2020 19:52

So when can I open my small independent shop then?

Derbygerbil · 10/05/2020 19:53

Basically, everything has been built up to this big moment this evening for us to be told that nothing has changed

If you’d been building it up to this big moment when massive changes would be announced you haven’t been paying attention, or only paying selected attention to certain Daily Mail stories.

OldQueen1969 · 10/05/2020 19:53

Clothing and lifestyle orientated just to clarify.
