Not that it matters to me personally, being in Scotland but that was just the biggest load of waffley waffle.
Not even a mention of meeting other households.

It was completely clear.

I'm a non-Tory BJ mocker as much anyone else but his statement wasn't confusing - pretty much everything stays the same (a few minor changes to exercise etc but social distancing rules & bans on mixing household continue) but there's a sort of plan for moving forward when infection rates reduce. You might not agree with the plan but it wasn't unclear unless you are choosing not to understand.

Bazookapie · 10/05/2020 20:05

Clear enough to me, not understanding what is so confusing?

yellowbrickwhorl · 10/05/2020 20:05

OK chaps, I was darting in and out of the living room listening to Boris with one ear, and serving dinner up in the kitchen at the same time.

Can anybody precis it for me and give me a bullet point list please?!

R1R2 · 10/05/2020 20:06

The guidance on work has not changed at all the fact you only just became aware of it is your own ignorant fault. You dont want treating like children but literally every detail has to be spoon fed and even then these posts keep coming.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 10/05/2020 20:06

Glower

I've just seen it in the transcript, thank you. Incredibly vague though without even an anticipated timeline

Sadie789 · 10/05/2020 20:06

Also it’s completely unreasonable to expect him to cover absolutely every aspect of every individual’s vastly different daily lives in one 15 minute bulletin.

You might be a retired 65 year old with asthma who has been self isolating for 2 months and living in a paid off home, or you could be a 25 year old man who works on a building site and won’t be getting paid until his employer starts up again. You might have kids under 5 or teenagers. You might be single or married or in a fucking polyamorous 5 way with your cousins - you cannot possibly reasonably expect a personal lockdown prescription from the Prime Minister.

What is actually wrong with people?

MasakaBuzz · 10/05/2020 20:07

@ Lumene - it’s about common sense. No you are not meant to do it, but if you are going to then do in a way that minimises the risk.

Every couple of weeks I meet a friend. We sit two metres apart in the garden, use plenty of hand sanitizer. It’s been established by the scientists that the risk of transmission outside in small group interactions is very low.

cleopatrascorset · 10/05/2020 20:07

BoJo royally screwed up the beginning of Covid, but that message was clear & sensible. Compare him to Trump and our leadership could be MUCH worse...

imsooverthisdrama · 10/05/2020 20:07

I thought it was positive, things moving although slowly .
It was clear but could be clearer.
I think it's good about the exercise, no more on here of stay at home or you can go out multiple times if you want .
I do think we will see parks full though and pictures on the news of us all in the park .
I've just seen on my fb people saying well you can see family as long as 2 metres away . Also complaining that the government more worried about the economy than lives. Hmm
I was a bit upset about the no mention of seeing family.

silverdollarcity · 10/05/2020 20:07

Why is the quarantine only for people arriving by air? It is literally pointless if it doesn't also include the ports and Eurostar/Eurotunnel etc.

Yawnyoureboringme · 10/05/2020 20:09

So you can go back to work if you can but we aren’t going to tell you which businesses we mean. Loads of Employers aren’t going To make it safe for workers because who is going to check? I’m a cleaner and my boss won’t give a shit if me and my colleagues are safe or not.
I haven’t got a clue if I’m expected back to work now, and if I am then what difference would it make going to see my mother in her garden, if I’m around various colleagues all day?

Maxandezra · 10/05/2020 20:09

an absolute farce. I am so upset and angry at how we are being treated by this government. What was even the point in that waffle? Why not wiat until tomorrow when they could release the full guidleines, you know with actual proper infromation in? That broadcast was worse than useles, totally pointless. I am just going to stop listening to anything they wsay form now on.

Russellbrandshair · 10/05/2020 20:10

@Sadie789

Exactly. Are people being purposely dense? Of course he cannot list every single industry or personal circumstance- he’s be sitting there until midnight doing that.

It was very clear. But as PP have said, apparently some need spoon feeding 🙄

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 10/05/2020 20:10

I think the most confusing part was about work. He said if you can't work from home then you should go back to work but he said that restaurants and pubs might be able to open in July. But what about

Hairdressers
Dentists
Cinemas
Theatres
Nail salons etc?

They are jobs you can't do from home, so can they go back to work now then?

Also saying jobs have been made Covid safe - have they?

lyralalala · 10/05/2020 20:10

Given that he said they were increasing the fine for mixing households when he mentioned the outside sports I don't see how that wasn't clear.

I think that bit was the only clear bit of his waffle.

Grappala · 10/05/2020 20:11

Where is the 50 page document? Anyone got a link or is it not released yet?

Yoyoallovertheshow · 10/05/2020 20:11

Hope we can mix households before schools reopen, if my DC end up back at school first, it will be too risky to see GP's. I wonder how many people will actually send their kids to school

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 20:11

no he didnt mention going to second homes or holidays wtf

LilacTree1 · 10/05/2020 20:11

Richardmarx “ So given that the last step he mentioned was to take place no earlier than 1st July, do I just assume that I am not going to be able to spend time in person with another human being until after that at the very earliest? By which time I will have spent over 3 months on my own.”

Same here.

scratchmeandyoullfindthenc · 10/05/2020 20:12

I thought it was very clear. It is difficult to speak to each person's situation in such a short statement. There will be a 50 page written statement released tomorrow that will have lot more detail. It was vague about dates - but it has to be - we need to see what happens to the R0 value.

But to answer the question posed - no we can't mix households. It's too soon for that yet. Difficult though that is.

Glower · 10/05/2020 20:13

I thought it was fairly obvious that employees in businesses that were already compelled to close by law won’t come under the group that have to go into work if they can’t work from home.

There’s a full list of what can and can’t open on the government website: www.gov.uk/government/publications/further-businesses-and-premises-to-close/further-businesses-and-premises-to-close-guidance

katenutzs · 10/05/2020 20:13

‪Anyone who needs help understanding.... ‬
‪No real change at the minute. ‬
‪Cant all rush back to work.‬
‪ONLY Businesses where they can keep a strict 2 meter distance... can open. ‬
‪Only significant change is....
You now have unlimited outdoor time as long as with those in your house hold and keep to social distance rules. ‬
‪Summed up as....
Majority still in lockdown.‬
‪It’s Simple.‬

Given these reactions I think I must've been crediting the British public with far too much intelligence!

Greengrassgravy · 10/05/2020 20:13

He takes a long time to say very little! Nothing much changed.

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 20:13
