Judging by Nicola Sturgeons remarks today Scotland will remain In lockdown as it is now till the end of May while England will start easing up

Given we have so many less deaths in Scotland does anyone else feel Nicola is just making an independence point now

OP posts:

I trust Nicola far more than I trust the English government when it comes to this outbreak.

DivGirl · 07/05/2020 09:32

@midgebabe I live in the worst hit area in Scotland and rule breaking is rife. Yesterday I was at the park (not really a park, an urban field with a skatepark where the circus usually pitches up) and there were about 15 kids and adults at the skatepark, people playing football, loads of people sunbathing, a couple of picnickers including one that was at least two families. Then when we were about halfway round the police cycled through and spoke to... No one. NS can extend restrictions if she wants but it seems like people are already getting back to normal.

midnightstar66 · 07/05/2020 09:33

No I think she is doing well to not be pressured in to going along with Boris despite the fact it might be an unpopular decision with many. I think it's the right choice for Scotland but know many who will disagree because they are fed up

Blueberryham · 07/05/2020 09:36

Yes rule breaking rife here too. I see teenagers out for bike runs together and children congregating at skate parks

tabulahrasa · 07/05/2020 09:37

“In five years time we can extrapolate all data and my money is on Sweden faring far better in the longer term because it won’t have to kill people with austerity”

Won’t it?... their economy is tanking anyway and unemployment predicted to nearly double despite letting twice as many people die as neighbouring countries...

Aesopfable · 07/05/2020 10:11

Why didn’t Nicola increased testing sooner?
Why is there such a shortage of PPE in Scotland such that she tried to distance herself from it by blaming companies for not sending some of Public Health England’s stockpile to Scotland?

Blueberryham · 07/05/2020 11:03

I am Sure Scotland haven’t had the perfect response and mistakes have been made re testing etc. But in terms of lifting lockdown I think it is too early for Scotland

GabsAlot · 07/05/2020 11:47

i saw this think it said another 3 weeks-i think scotlands R number is slightly higher than the rest of the uk

CallMeRachel · 07/05/2020 11:50

Glasgow needs to get its act together and stop pulling the rest of the country down.

People there are ignoring the rules and it's showing in the extreme high figures in comparison to the rest of Scotland.

We will all be in lockdown much longer because of stupidity and selfishness.

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 12:37

Guess it's official she has extended it till the 28th May but can be changed it needed

sunglasses123 · 07/05/2020 12:42

She is driven by politics. She wants to lockdown for longer. She then has more power, shows she can make different decisions to the rest of the UK.

She is wallowing in this and just loves the power she thinks this gives her. Then when Scotland is trashed economy wise she will come cap in hand to Parliament.

Look at what her Medical Minister did. The silly moo was even on the posters telling people to stay at home (and then did the complete opposite!) She wanted to keep her on.... just shows one rule for her and another for the rest of us plebs!

user1487194234 · 07/05/2020 12:44

Fuck

sunglasses123 · 07/05/2020 12:44

Why doesnt she get together with the whole of the UK and agree a policy for the UK. Why does she keep wanting to show off her power?

Its all politics.

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 12:46

She actually said the prime minister hasn't kept her up to date with what he is planning and she doesn't know what he will say on Sunday.

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 12:48

I'll bet a fiver that Boris will also extend for 3 weeks but with extra exercise allowed

She is doing the best for Scotland who is behind England's curve.

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 12:49

So if she doesn't kniw what Boris will announce how can she do the polar opposite as some posters have accessed her of doing?

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 12:50

@StoorieHoose exactly

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 12:51

Unless she has a crystal ball eh Peppa?

SudokuBook · 07/05/2020 12:52

I think we can safely say Scottish schools won’t be back now before summer. I don’t see these lockdown measures being lifted enough from 28 May to permit that.

Bathroom12345 · 07/05/2020 12:54

Power! She loves this spotlight. Who cares if the economy is trashed.

According to my colleagues in Scotland a lot are ignoring the 'rules' anyway. Why does she insist on making announcements before the rest of the UK?

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 12:54

To be fair NS said that when they closed that they wouldn't be back before the summer holidays

SudokuBook · 07/05/2020 12:57

She says the R number is not far enough below 1 and may even be above 1 still. Any lifting will therefore lead to exponential growth. What choice does she have? I can’t stand NS but I really don’t see what she could be doing differently here?

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 12:57

People are so sure boris is lifting lockdown but no one knows . She doesn't know herself what he is doing . She said she doesn't know if her approach is different to the UK until he phones and her tell her what he is planning.

Bathroom12345 · 07/05/2020 12:58

She wants to keep lockdown because there are others who will support her financially.

Like hell does she not know what Boris is thinking of announcing. If she truly doesnt then shame on her that she is doing her own thing.

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 12:58

According to my colleagues in Scotland a lot are ignoring the 'rules' anyway. Why does she insist on making announcements before the rest of the UK?

Stupidity is not limited to Scottish people ignoring rules. why shouldn't she have her press conference before the WM one? health and education are devolved and what she says has no bearing on 3/4 of the UK anyway
