Judging by Nicola Sturgeons remarks today Scotland will remain In lockdown as it is now till the end of May while England will start easing up

Given we have so many less deaths in Scotland does anyone else feel Nicola is just making an independence point now

@Bathroom12345 because she makes the decisions for Scotland maybe.

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 13:01

No not shame on her for not knowing what Boris is going to say . Shame on Boris for making decisions without consulting her.

Bathroom12345 · 07/05/2020 13:01

Why is she insisting on making statements without checking with the rest of the UK. She is one of the most annoying, power obsessed women around and there is no way if she wanted to speak to Boris she wouldnt get through.

I honestly dont know why people voted for her. I know, I know -lots did! I suspect it's to do with her putting Scotland first and if you were Scottish you would appreciate that.

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 13:02

Ha can you imagine the uproar if Boris said 'actually NS did know what I was planning and she lied about it'

Why shouldn't she do her own thing? She is the first minister for Scotland and if we are behind the curve of the rest of the UK she should do what's best for Scotland

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 13:03

So Bathroom are you not in Scotland? Why do you care what another country does?

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 13:04

Boris isn't power hungry at all then eh? Yes you definitely become Prime Minister if you don't want power. If your not Scottish why do you care what our First Minister decides for her own country .

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 13:04

Wait a minute! Boris clearly isn't consulting with the others in the UK before leaking information to the papers - why are you not concerned about that?

VimtoCordial · 07/05/2020 13:06

Why is she insisting on making statements without checking with the rest of the UK.

How can she do this when 'the rest of the UK' isn't telling her what they're doing.

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 13:10

It's disgusting that she is finding out about UK plans by reading the papers like the rest of us . Shows exactly what the UK government think about Scotland .

Welsh FM is on now giving his press conference - any frothy posts about him making announcements before Boris?

JemimaPuddleCat · 07/05/2020 13:15

@Bathroom12345

Why is she insisting on making statements without checking with the rest of the UK.

Because the Scottish Government doesn't have to ask permission when coming to a decision about something they have legal control over.

Do you think Boris gives her opinion any thought before he makes decisions?

JemimaPuddleCat · 07/05/2020 13:15

@StoorieHoose

Nope, because he has a penis. He doesn't have to check that he's doing it right.

EachDubh · 07/05/2020 13:18

Sonebpeople need to get a grip, considering the are accusing Nicola of being political the politics comes from them!
Nicola does something that she can justify for Scotland and all we here is cries of it's political, she is trying to be different from UK.
The UK government haven't exactly covered themselves in glory, we here far too much shit in newspapers and know that too many business people have too great a say in what the decisions being made are and we know they are often acting like a bunch of school kids when making decisions and releasing information. If Nicola says he hasn't been in touch why do we automatically blame her? We know that this is the behaviour displayed during brexit talks. Perhaps we all need to examine our own politics before commenting on others decisions being purely political.
In some peoples eyes she can do no right, even if history prives she did evwrything from the best place there will be those that hate her and her actions because she is from the SNP.

Koddii · 07/05/2020 13:23

I have never been an snp supporter and was against independence. So I feel a bit confused about the feelings I currently have of liking Nicola Stugeon and thinking that I could vote for independence in the future. I think these daily briefings are brainwashing me.

Mascotte · 07/05/2020 13:40

I was swithering but knew really the SNP Wouldn't be able to resist this opportunity to increase the nanny state

Aesopfable · 07/05/2020 13:40

The UK government haven't exactly covered themselves in glory

What has the Scottish government done differently? (Bearing in mind school closures, ‘lockdown’, PPE, level of testing, nhs, ‘Vulnerable persons’ lists, etc all fall within the remit of the Scottish Government)

FedHimtoTigers1990 · 07/05/2020 13:44

These briefings are so infuriating.
NS spends the first 10 minutes telling us data figures etc then explains in detail what her llans her. Then the questions from media are all the same bloody questions that shes mostly just covered. She should do the daily figures then open for questions to save her repeating herself.

Fwiw i think she is 100% doing the right thing.

For all those saying she is a control.freak and loving the power, i really dont know what you're watching or reading.

She mentioned she would have liked to have a COBRA meeting today or there should have been one but it didn't happen...BJ couldnt give a flying fuck.

FedHimtoTigers1990 · 07/05/2020 13:45

Typos sorry. what her plans are

Do you think there are secret words she uses in every briefing that are subliminally persuading you? Grin

justasking111 · 07/05/2020 14:06

She may demand lockdown for another three or four weeks, ditto Wales, but when Boris contradicts them, I forecast both small countries will have their work cut out for them enforcing it with the paltry fines issued.

Bellebelle · 07/05/2020 14:08

Both the Scottish and Welsh governments have complained about the UK government’s failure to continue with the “four nations” approach that was agreed when we first went into lockdown - when Boris made his announcements in March they were for all of the UK with full support from the devolved parliaments/assembly but now we’re tentatively looking at easing the restrictions (and I really think that it’s going to be extremely minor changes made, not the freedom people seem to be hoping for) Boris isn’t respecting the deal and hasn’t engaged with any of the other governments in the spirit of the alliance that had been agreed.

While the NHS in Scotland is separate to the rest of the UK, Scotland, Wales and NI are heavily reliant on the UK government for the emergency funding and scientific expertise needed in a situation like this so it’s not a case of just saying that Scotland or Wales should just sort themselves out.

Someonesayroadtrip · 07/05/2020 14:20

Honestly well done Scotland. Our replication rate in wales is above 0.9 and I'm horrified at the idea of reducing lockdown. What was the point of all of this off we are just going to undo the good we did and make the sacrifices we did. I had to shut down my business, I have lost friends, I haven't seen my mum in weeks (she's shielding and a few years back we moved to live a few doors away so that's been tough when we usually see her daily). I really really hope Wales grows a pair and doesn't reduce lockdown. I'm three weeks we are likely to see the replication rate reduce to around 0.7 which will be a much much better time to START reducing lockdown, now is too soon.

We have all made sacrifices, we have all lost money, friends, family, we all miss our lives as they once were. I want to get back to our new normal too, but I don't what those scarifies to have been for nothing. Get the replication level lower, just a bit more patience.

The UK are the laughing stock of the world right now, people are looking at us as the worse affected nation and shaking their heads at our impatience. We just need to breath. Yes our Economy is screwed but they estimate it will bounce back in mid year next year. We can get through that, but if your dead your dead, or more friends and more family. Think of the NHS workers risking their lives and what the hell was the point of all those people clapping of they are going to given them the middle finger so they can go back to "normal".

And while I'm in a rant, our old normal has gone, life has changed, let's give our new normal a good chance but not rushing "back". we shouldn't be going back to anything.

Ibelieveinyesterday · 07/05/2020 14:35

I'm an independence supporting Scot who's always voted for the SNP. They're not perfect but frankly no one else has ever been a viable alternative.
Our FM was absolutely right when she called out claims that decision making in this crisis was about independence.
Despite my desire for it, it's barely crossed my mind during all this (aside from wishing dearly to be as far removed from Boris Johnson as humanly possible).
The thing I think about most often is the thousands of families (in all 4 nations) who are losing loved ones due to this. It's not about politics just now, it's about human lives.
