Judging by Nicola Sturgeons remarks today Scotland will remain In lockdown as it is now till the end of May while England will start easing up

Given we have so many less deaths in Scotland does anyone else feel Nicola is just making an independence point now

No

GalactiCat · 06/05/2020 21:06

No. I think she cares about people and wants to try and keep our deaths down.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 06/05/2020 21:06

@frasersmummy yes I do, I think it’s willy waving with Boris and trying to make a point for independence. I usually like Nicola but I really don’t agree with the hard line she is taking. I’m in a rural area with very few cases, never above 5 in intensive care etc, I think hot spots could be watched closely but a more relaxed approach in less effected areas

Plannergirl9 · 06/05/2020 21:07

No. The r number is higher in Scotland than in the rest of the UK between 0.7 and 0.9 and over 1 in affected car homes. Scotland is also slightly behind in terms of when we had our first infection.

Chillipeanuts · 06/05/2020 21:08

I. I don’t think England ei eases up as much as some people are expecting/hoping.
Polling is consistently showing a large majority in favour of a further extension.

Plannergirl9 · 06/05/2020 21:08

*Care homes

Try again, without the typos Grin

TigerKingQueen · 06/05/2020 21:09

She’s said Scotland hasn’t hit its peak yet so it would make sense to have a different approach

caringcarer · 06/05/2020 21:10

I did notice red Scotish line is still flat lining just below peak whereas most England, Wales and N.I. seem to be past peak a week or do ago and now lines going down albeit slowly. I think she is just being careful.

Plannergirl9 · 06/05/2020 21:11

She also said she wants to go with a 4 nation approach if possible as long as it doesn't mean places were the virus is more active is brought out of lockdown too early.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 06/05/2020 21:12

I’ve just seen a times article that says Scotland is past the peak? Surely If England’s peak was mid April we shouldn’t be far behind? I’m frontline nhs and we were told at the start of lockdown we were only a few weeks off pandemonium that was 7 weeks ago so it’s obviously worked but we can’t be kept in until a vaccine which I feel like Nicola is aiming for! Even that paper she released a few weeks ago said Christmas isn’t cancelled but it won’t be like any Christmas we have ever had! Brilliant just what we want to hear

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 06/05/2020 21:13

If they think I won’t be spending Christmas with my family they are sorely mistaken

CaptainMerica · 06/05/2020 21:14

If that is the case we will see soon enough who turned out to be right.

In reality, I think they will be saying basically the same thing (with the exception of schools due to differences in term time).

Boris will be optimistic and frame a slight relaxation as a pay off for success. Nicola will frame the same thing as a cautious first step that might need to be reversed.

I know which one will look like a dick if it turns out to be a mistake.

PineappleDanish · 06/05/2020 21:15

Scotland has hit the peak. Deaths are falling. What appears to be different is the proportion of deaths in care homes - well over 50%.
If anything that's an argument for everyone getting back to normal quicker, with the exception of people working on care homes.

And of course Ms Sturgeon isn't going to agree with Boris. She's made a career of doing the opposite. Must really stick in her craw to have to follow the London advice.

SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 06/05/2020 21:16

No - she's absolutely right.

frasersmummy · 06/05/2020 21:17

I feel she is going to go down a very strict route till a vaccine is found to prove she was better at keeping it under control than Boris..

At what cost though??

OP posts:
SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 06/05/2020 21:17

The countesshotelcortez - the REASON we have low deaths is because our lock down started before case numbers had really ramped up

Theeighthelephant · 06/05/2020 21:18

Nicola Sturgeon could sneeze and some people would accuse her of doing it to spite Westminister.

Mascotte · 06/05/2020 21:20

I will be extremely fucked off if we remain in stricter lockdown than England and will probably ignore it. It makes no sense.

Mascotte · 06/05/2020 21:21

Hospitals here have capacity and that's what was needed

tabulahrasa · 06/05/2020 21:21

“At what cost though??”

Financially? It’ll not make much difference, most of the industries that have furloughed staff have done so because the alternative is bankruptcy and/or mass redundancies.

MrsWhites · 06/05/2020 21:24

I was very impressed with NS during the election campaign but she is coming across as petty and competitive with all this racing to get her briefings out before Westminster for me. Obviously time will tell whether she is right to take a harder line. My husband commented today that the Scottish branches of the business he works for are fairing significantly worse than its English counterparts financially (construction related trade) so again time will tell on the economic fallout of the tougher stance.

frasersmummy · 06/05/2020 21:24

@tabulshrada

What cost to education what cost to. Employment what cost to mental health

OP posts:
Mascotte · 06/05/2020 21:25

@frasersmummy exactly. It's a disaster happening every day. This needs eased off now

Tigertrees · 06/05/2020 21:26

Seems very sensible to me so far.
