I know this is pure speculation, but any predictions about changes from next Monday?

I just don't see how it will work having continued lockdown in Scotland when eased elsewhere. Same as app said about why it started at the same time. People won't obey it 🤷‍♀️

So why is it now ok for different rules for different areas?"

Because some parts of the country barely have any deaths/infections..... therefore why lock people up. Perhaps just keep the people in cities locked up since their infection rates/death rates are higher....

JaniceBattersby · 06/05/2020 17:46

@sunglasses123 A very, very small number of hospital deaths announced today were from weeks (not months) ago. The vast majority were from the past two or three days.

I agree with pps that the 'stay local' government guidance needs to be emphasised, particularly as the later police internal guidance reported muddied the waters and seems to have led to an increase in non-essential travel. I saw that police in North Yorkshire were understandably complaining about the number of visiting walkers, day-trippers, picnickers and barbecuers recently - for example to Malham Cove - and a police officer had been spat at and verbally abused when challenging them. I absolutely am not defending the actions of the covidiots, but I do think the police shot themselves (and local residents) in the foot with their guidance, which is confusing and at odds with the government guidance. I think clarification about how far people can drive for exercise would help - 5 minutes, 10 minutes? 5 miles?

Mascotte · 06/05/2020 17:47

@Weallhavevalidopinions I agree. I was asking about that as pp were saying Scotland should Lockdown Longer but had had to lockdown in the first place to be in line with England. It makes absolutely no sense.

The hospitals have capacity. Time to open up.

Paddingtonthebear · 06/05/2020 17:48

The “it’s ok to drive for exercise” thing isn’t right is it?

The gov website updated this month says that people shouldn’t be travelling for exercise unless it’s essential because they don’t live near anywhere safe to exercise.

Oh, and I'd like younger kids to be able to play with friends outdoors

redsky75 · 06/05/2020 17:53

Scotland went into lockdown at the same time as the rest of the country but at that time Scotland was a couple of weeks behind in the curve so it was still early in the process for Scotland. Scotland therefore are still a couple of weeks behind and therefore should not be easing up on anything until the end of the month. The lower the R0 number goes the better and the more scope for easing up in more areas - education, business, retail etc

ducksback · 06/05/2020 18:20

Garden centres not open near me. Sadly.

PubsClubsMinistryOfSound · 06/05/2020 18:26

I absolutely am not defending the actions of the covidiots, but I do think the police shot themselves (and local residents) in the foot with their guidance, which is confusing and at odds with the government guidance.

It was based on the actual law though, which unlike government guidance is actually enforceable. Taking their cue from the legislation is precisely what the police should be doing. We've seen more than enough instances of them getting the law completely wrong.

TheGreatWave · 06/05/2020 18:49

I think it will mainly be easing of which shops can open and perhaps clearer guidance on trades etc.

I was out today (had to drive for a test) and the roads were busy but a lot was work related vehicles, the local roads were still a little quieter than usual.

daisymay133 · 06/05/2020 18:53

It’ll be that all people can return to work if they ensure their criteria are being met inc some sort of reduced distancing and cleanliness etc

My job involves government criteria and we’ve had heads up that following Sunday’s advice prepare to go back

Many industries will have heads up as they were involved in discussions so I expect most places can re open but with restrictions

TheNinjaWife · 06/05/2020 19:23

@Bluntness100* agree!
*Why do you think Monday is too early when the lock down is to prevent the nhs being breached and they clearly now habe the capacity?

How many empty beds do you need exactly?*

I've seen the government plan. It's slow and steady and phased . From May until August. I think it's sensible.

pawsforawhile · 06/05/2020 19:38

From 18th . Not next week . Sure boris will tell all

RedRiverShore · 06/05/2020 19:42

I think we will be able to sit down when we go for our exercise and maybe even have a picnic but it will be so cold next week no one will want to

LovePoppy · 06/05/2020 19:44

@AmyFl Way too soon for return to work, I think. Hopefully allowed out more though.

....this isn’t a holiday. Rules for relax regarding going back to work before going outside and enjoying yourselves I would think

Biscuit0110 · 06/05/2020 19:48

I have just read that as early as Monday some sectors will be returning to work. It is time to turn off the life support, whilst we can still afford to. We are going to need it again in December.

ifonly4 · 06/05/2020 19:54

If the government truly believe we are over the worst, then getting the NHS back into the position of offering routine appointments especially for those with life threatening conditions.

Regarding the economy, then definitely garden centres open, social distance very easy for them, and will benefit those who have gardens during the next few months if restrictions.

Just hoping it's not too much too soon

pawsforawhile · 06/05/2020 19:57

It's not from next week all.

It's from 18th May. I have this information. Ignore me though if you like !

Beebityboo · 06/05/2020 19:58

Paws, if you've seen the plan could you give us a heads up about schools? I'm so desperate to know what is going to happen there.

cheninblanc · 06/05/2020 20:00

Paws I'm listening...

HouseTornado · 06/05/2020 20:01
