It is crazy. I'm sorry your DM is struggling @Helenadove.
The more people resist the longer the sentence for those in self isolation. It is very selfish behaviour we were asked to stay home not fight a war.

changeshermind · 09/05/2020 22:51

I thi k they don't realise the potential risk to themselves and we're all doing this to "protect the NHS". Love for the NHS isn't really enough is it.

HeIenaDove · 10/05/2020 00:04

Ta Emerald Thanks

Just had a bit of a disagreement with some people on our local fb page. They were dismissing the care home deaths. "mistakes are natural" apparently.

They got the hump (especially one who now wont leave me alone) when i pointed out that only yesterday they were celebrating VE Day, and that if these deaths were happening in childcare settings they would be screaming for heads to roll.

HeIenaDove · 10/05/2020 00:25

Seen another group say they are planning a real street party to celebrate the end of lockdown.

Seen another group say they are planning a real street party to celebrate the end of lockdown.

I think they'll have some time to wait, yet... Hmm

Apparently we're getting a 'traffic light Covid-19 alert system' re the Coronavirus 'threat level' - that's going to be part of Boris' announcement tomorrow.

It is understood the system - with alerts ranging from green (level one) to red (level five) - will be similar to the one used to keep the public informed about the terror threat level.

Wow have to send tests to US!!
This is ridiculous companies here offered previously.
How can we let people know quickly enough if its surely going to take several days. That person will have infected msny others by then and also if a KW but has something else will be missing work.

Yet they think they can test footballers very quickly...

Uf we cant cope now and they want to end restrictions !

WhoWants2Know · 10/05/2020 09:22

The "Stay at Home, Protect the NHS" message is being changed to "Stay Alert, Save Lives".

Like the virus is going to come get you if you doze off...

God, it’s like that old joke.

Don’t stay alert, stay aloof. Your country needs Loofs

Actually, being aloof rather than alert is a better social distancing message.

ajandjjmum · 10/05/2020 10:05

MIL is in a care home with Covid, and it's not looking good. However, she was tested and the result came within 24 hours - this was a couple of weeks ago.

We understand that 6 people have died in the home.

It is way above the ability/experience of the carers to deal with this - they are understandably scared. They're doing their best, but it's far from easy.

BanditoShipman · 10/05/2020 13:00

CNN is reporting 70 cases of children in New York that have been hospitalised with symptoms that resemble Kawasaki disease. I think 3 have died (just caught tail end of news) 🙁 70 seems really high

StrawberryJam200 · 10/05/2020 13:26

@BanditoShipman 😮. That sounds quite worrying. And relevant to whether schools can go back or whether we need to find new ways to temporarily support families and children....

Keepdistance · 10/05/2020 13:57

It was always going to increase unfortunately as
Kids are still catching it
It is delayed from them getting covid for a few weeks.

The data on the uk cases was that the first 8, 7 were black children and the other asian i think. (So could be reflective of the vit d issue). The kixs were older than usual kawasakis and imo that may be because it is usually triggered by illnesses kids are exposed to under 5yo but obviously this didnt exist.
Yes a lot more kids will get it when they got back to school.
More reason to wait till sept though. As we dont really know how long after this could happen. And even though they almost all survived they could well be left with heart damage. If it were affected by say vit d or childs weight etc these could be fixed or parents advise d to do strict SD

Reastie · 10/05/2020 14:44

Mostly lurker here.

This was added to PMs twitter page 2 hours ago. It worries me that this will be the tone of the address tonight. It’s rather washy washy and open to totally float measures by some. I don’t think it’s the firm guidance we need at this point. They talk about how we are at a very dangerous point right now then come out with this which to me eyes looks focused on keeping the economy moving rather than saving lives. I hope the instructions he gives behind this are rather more firm than this but I’ve now lost my confidence in what they will say. It’s all a s**tshow.

For those of you of the right age, you'll never been able to take the new slogan seriously after you watch this:

Ever Alert For The Call To Action...

woodpidgeons · 10/05/2020 15:00

"as we start to recover from coronavirus"
Did he really just post that!!
Sorry, but what the actual fuck.
We don't have a vaccine, we don't have tried and tested anti virals which work
How are we starting to recover from coronavirus??!!

I get all the concerns about the economy etc, but this is blatantly bullshit. The virus is not going to mysteriously go away just because we are told to "be alert" "control the virus" (how??) and "as we recover from coronavirus"..

Our government is spreading dangerous misinformation. Dangerous misinformation that doesn't even make sense and is as clear as mud.

I can't even listen to it anymore.

colouringindoors · 10/05/2020 15:13

pmk

StrawberryJam200 · 10/05/2020 15:15

Thanks for that @Reastie. Well, am grateful to you for posting but not grateful for the content iyswim .....

Despite his own time in ICU, seems like Boris has gone with the 1922 committee and party sponsors....

NHS nurse quits London hospital after six weeks without hand gel or masks
EXCLUSIVE: Laura Demmen said the cancer ward was next door to Covid-19 patients but staff didn't have adequate equipment to protect themselves or patients

Good More should do this.

HeIenaDove · 10/05/2020 15:26

@BanditoShipman Watch the care home dismissers turn on a dime if that really starts to kick off in the UK.

HeIenaDove · 10/05/2020 15:34

Ah So if we catch it, it will be because we wernt alert enough.

Furlough announcement 'due on Tuesday' with plan for workers to return part-time
More than six million people have been furloughed in the UK as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but many of these might be made to work part-time, it's said

Saucery · 10/05/2020 16:39

Unfuckingbelievable. We’re back to square one.
Not in a job where you can protect yourself? - Fuck You
Not able to avoid essential shopping in supermarkets? - Fuck You
Don’t want to be put at risk by the behaviour of other people? - Fuck You.

SummerSazz · 10/05/2020 16:51

@Saucery I know plenty of people furloughed as the business levels fell significantly initially. These people could potentially wfh but were at risk of redundancy as business effectively stopped. As business starts to unwind from the initial knee jerk I think this could be very helpful. They could still wfh or rotate with others in offices in shifts so fewer people around.

They are still saying they want to protect the furlough for those industries completely closed as these employees have no opportunity at all to work.
