Thanks Molly
I was ill (a few weeks ago) with what I think was tonsillitis.

But I had a high temp for a few days and a cough also.
Being able to report that when I felt ill and was worried about CV, felt 'useful' at the time (to me).

When I got better I carried on reporting, realising that had I been ill with CV at the time, it would have been helpful to researchers.

I live in a hotspot too, in an LA with high deprivation and many who speak EAL (it was rated the country's highest risk area for its health/risk rating) and I'm not sure how many people in this LA would actually use this app, so wanted to do my bit.

RigaBalsam · 09/05/2020 12:39

Unfortunately you get idiots everywhere. I bet sensible people in Teeside don't want to be associated with the ones in that video.

True I don't live far from Boro people are ashamed.

erinbromage.wixsite.com/covid19/post/the-risks-know-them-avoid-them

american, but relevant anywhere

Keepdistance · 09/05/2020 14:57

Yes i read that whemn you? Posted on another thread.
Does demonstrate how it will spread like wildfire in an enclosed school room.
And we have 2 toilets for 60 kids so them flushing virus in the air is a real issue as it stays in the body for weeks..
Plus all the shouting by kids.
Air con being a risk too. For workplaces.

StrawberryJam200 · 09/05/2020 15:20

@bluefoxmug thank you that article answers so many current questions and explains viral load!! Hope it becomes widely publicised.

Enclosed spaces are bad, raised voices are bad .... definitely doesn't sound like any large return to school is a good idea, unless we all do Forest school in very small quiet groups.....

weepingwillow22 · 09/05/2020 16:05

@bluefoxmug Thanks for posting the article. It looks very scary for america when you strip out new york from the data and see cases still rising and lockdown ending.

bluefoxmug · 09/05/2020 16:08

south korea closes bars again after rise in cases

Keepdistance · 09/05/2020 16:10

Apparently a lot of uk is still rising which makes little sense as we are in lockdown. They predicted our area to peak in may? Not sure if thats because we didnt have such a big peak so not going down?
Also if people are encouraged to go on their holidays bepy the holiday parks. I dont see whst will happen with devon and cornwall? They are surely going to have a huge mid summer or sept peak?

HeIenaDove · 09/05/2020 17:37

Just had a very tearful phone call with my mum. She was crying and saying she misses everyone. Shes also struggling with the ailments she has. Shes 84

Inkpaperstars · 09/05/2020 18:41

Oh Helena how upsetting Flowers

My mum is also in her eighties and been isolating since start of March. It's really tough.

I am sure speaking to you and expressing herself has been some comfort to yoru mum. Does she live nearby?

HeIenaDove · 09/05/2020 18:45

She lives a 45 min walk away Thanks

Keepdistance · 09/05/2020 18:52

Shit isnt it.
My parents are 70+ and shielding.
We probably wont see them in a year.
Also dd wasnt at school yet we used to go out places every few weeks. I know the long term is what's important but it's rubbish for gc and gp.
So cross with the gov.
Even without dying all our lives have been significantly affected.
Really hanging my hopes on a vax.
A lot of people on mn are calling us sorts dementors. But they really have no empathy for people in the at risk groups/those not able to see gp as they are older.
Of ciurse we are more worried and concerned about gov plans. (My kids could lose all 4 gp and they are t 10 yet so wouldn't remember them much).

Saucery · 09/05/2020 19:19

I’m sorry, Helena it’s just shit, isn’t it. I’ve been feeling quite down about going to work, observing SD as best I can within the constraints of my role but unable to see my parents. I even toyed with the idea of resigning so I could bend the rules and go and see them knowing I would not have picked up C19 . I won’t of course, but the contempt teachers are held in by so many on here makes me think fuck it, family first more often than I’d like.

HeIenaDove · 09/05/2020 19:39

SD is/will be bloody hard in a school setting. Thanks

Ive noticed there has been a reverse re. single use plastic. There was an item on the news earlier about restaurants having to have disposable menus when they re open.

Keepdistance · 09/05/2020 19:46

I know i honestly cant believe the parents' selfishness.
Some are sahp too!
Yes other jobs are a risk too but were actually essential. Teachers are doing the essential bit.
Parents arent happy
They dont seem to want kids or teachers in masks.
It's eye opening someone even said they'd be more worried about noro!!
And actually im pretty concerned tbh about all these kids that love school so much and miss theur friends so much it's affecting their mh. While in the real world kids love time off, school is exhausting, boring (sorry), and they have longer summer holidays...
In fact im more worried mine wont want to go back.
Kids seem to cope in a class of 30 so most should be able to get on with some work without constant supervision.

And the faux concern for the vulnerable kids (but not really for kids whose parents are shielded or are shielding). Those vulnerable kids are vulnerable every day and during long summer holidays.
They are already encouraged into school.

I wonder if in other countries the decision re ppe for kids and teachers is concern for the teachers or the r0?

Here i think the masks and ppe is about the public not seeing how big a threat it is.

Christmas was less than five months ago but seems years ago.

BREAKING: Fire erupts at Moscow hospital where coronavirus patients are being treated

Saucery · 09/05/2020 19:57

Doesn’t it just, Helena !

The vast majority of parents appreciate what schools are doing Keepdistance, I know that. Whichever way we return is going to have an effect on the mh of some children. Impossible situation all round. The ludicrous situation of being encouraged to stand 2m away from my sodding neighbours waving a flag and singing v potentially being pulled over by the police and questioned about driving 1/2 hr to visit my parents to see them outside at a greater distance just fucks me off if I dwell on it.

Keepdistance · 09/05/2020 19:58

Order by phone app might be better.
Tbh imo if people are worried about getting it they wont be at a restaurant any time soon.
Its all got to be touched. Tabkes/chairs plates, cups. Food breathed on.
Take away possibly slightly lower risk.
Howver 10% in londonmay have had it so they might be less risk
averse.
I suspext a real divide coming between those whove had it and havent.. But of course im split between wanting to have had it and survived and concerni might have permanent damage.
So if they suddenly say everyone who had it has
Lung/heart
Or it does reactivate...
Or you are more at risk of xyz.

I don't understand why everyone is so convinced they will be the lucky ones. I understand we take risks every day but i woukdnt drive without a seatbelt. I dont smoke. People are different. The stats show healthy people having to go to hospital - it's not all about dying

Saucery · 09/05/2020 19:58

Oh hell, that’s bad.

HeIenaDove · 09/05/2020 20:02

There doesnt seem to be any logic to it at all. I saw a vid from yesterday of ppl doing the conga using a rope to social distance Confused I was indoors in my flat all VE Day.

changeshermind · 09/05/2020 21:36

I was relieved to see the union statement and encouraged to see someone other than parents taking social repaonsonility for our children's safety. It's not like we can have a union. Can we ? Those are all really good points and the basic demands should be a minium starting point. There is a balance with their social development and mental health long term but no we don't need to rush them back in for the babysitting needs of some. Those people can take responsibility for their own than expect teachers to in these dangerous circumstances. Children have no rights to refuse and that would be criminally irresponsible. I would need a return to be school after other parts have opened with no spikes for three months, after minimum research and I would want mask use by students and staff.

EmeraldShamrock · 09/05/2020 22:17

I wonder how many families allowed the DC to mix during the celebrations especially if they’d had a few drinks.
You could hear a pin drop around here a month ago, everyone stuck to the rules, since the bank holiday last wk the rules have gone out the window. Families neighbours DC are mixing, it is really messed up nobody is learning.
I personally blame the lack of media not showing the devastation like they showed in Italy and Spain, some people need the shock instead of these lost lives being just another number.

changeshermind · 09/05/2020 22:23

Unpopular opinion and ideally would like to be wrong. You see quotes from memorable people throughout history re the masses being unconscious and conditionable by people with the power to influence them. It makes more and more sense to me as the years go by. Thankfully some media is going out of business.

HeIenaDove · 09/05/2020 22:42

Emerald our MSM are mainly a shitshow. the i paper arent too bad though i was Hmm at their headline "Lockdown to end next week"
