With pubs opening, I worry it could happen even sooner - see Texas and Arizona. New York is being wiser and postponing reopening indoor dining. I wish we’d done that too - start with outdoors only and see how that goes first.

BrickOgrass · 04/07/2020 22:16

Exactly. Just watching the news and it just seems madness to have opened indoors of pubs - I'm not surprised they have been saying people aren't always social distancing.

Keepdistance · 04/07/2020 22:22

Yes if everyone does go inside could well be.
Have you bought reuseable facemasks?
Not sure the kids would wear one

Keepdistance · 04/07/2020 22:25

It looked odd in the photos too so crowded outside. I thought pubs had to take details or is that only if going inside. Then daily mail saying the men were pissing beside someones house as they didnt want to use the toilet. Not sure if it's in wee.

Focusanddetermination · 04/07/2020 22:25

Well this eve I've already heard stories of drunk men spitting in the face of bar staff in our small town so sounds like the pubs opening it's going well..

HeIenaDove · 05/07/2020 18:25

Walked past a barbers in town yesterday and no masks or visors being worn.

No one seemed bothered. Just checked local fb groups and no one has said a word.
They had plenty to say when some people wernt wearing masks on buses even when it was pointed out that some will be exempt due to medical conditions. Nope Not good enough apparently.

But this barbers. Radio silence.

Amazing how a blind eye is turned when it involves something they want..............like a haircut.

Keepdistance · 05/07/2020 20:40

Im surprised at the hairdressers as they are high risk for both sides due to the numbers and a womens one i imagine is 15min at least and pretty much 0m.
I suppose everything comes down to pressure. From customers.
For teachers from gov.
I think embarrassment is a big factor.
Which i think is all the mixed messages.-
It's only dangerous if you are old.
Youve all got to get it
Dont wear masks they protect other people
Only need to wash your hands.
It seems unsurprisingly people cant keep up and are confused.

EarlGreywithLemon · 05/07/2020 21:53

@Keepdistance exactly that, the messaging has been all over the place from the beginning. And to my mind it’s been pretty obvious that the government’s “heart wasn’t in it” with the lockdown, which I think people picked up on.
We bought a box of disposable masks from Boots, and also some FFP2s to have just in case. Hoping not to need the latter, fingers crossed.
@HelenaDove , yes, funny how a blind eye is also turned when it comes to “putting money in the economy”.

HeIenaDove · 05/07/2020 22:26

It was a Turkish barbers. The hairdressers i walked past were doing everything to the letter.

HeIenaDove · 05/07/2020 22:30

Earl Grey This pandemic has really shown up the hypocrisy of many people.

DuineArBith · 05/07/2020 22:32

Anyone else heard rumours of further local lockdowns , including various areas of London?

EarlGreywithLemon · 05/07/2020 23:01

@HeIenaDove

Earl Grey This pandemic has really shown up the hypocrisy of many people.
I agree. One of the saddest things for me is that it’s also exposed some chilling attitudes towards the old and the vulnerable. It’s almost done what Trump did for racism in the US- made it OK to think and say things that were completely unacceptable beforehand. To see some people openly say “to hell with the sick and old” has been distressing and frightening in equal measure. I just hope that it’s a minority, and most people don’t think like that.
EarlGreywithLemon · 05/07/2020 23:10

@DuineArBith, a few days old, but I thought this was a good summary: www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/01/data-reveals-coronavirus-hotspots-in-bradford-barnsley-and-rochdale
It does sound like the original Sky News story listing the 36 areas “at risk” was barking up the wrong tree. I think it was based on percentage increases in cases, but didn’t look at the actual numbers. So an increase from 1 to 2 cases can look like a 100% jump, but it’s still only 2 cases, if you see what I mean. That said, I do take all government denials with a fistful of salt nowadays...

Keepdistance · 06/07/2020 17:56

I notice minehead one is now going darker. I fear d&c will go gradually but i guess a lot depends on where the tourists are coming from.

To stamp it out more we would have been better to stick to a distance like wales did.
It is interesting about london. But it may look better as well due to population.

Humphriescushion · 14/09/2020 14:11

Don't know if people are interested in reviving this thread but thought i would see @CrunchyCarrot ( hope you dont mind me tagging you).

Keepdistance · 14/09/2020 14:31

Yes
How are you doing?

We are home waiting for covid results.

Dd has
Sore throat
Runny nose
Temp for less than 8h
Maybe change of taste. (Hard to know if just wanted to avoid school)

They had 8d in school. And 5 for youngest.
Today would probably have been first day dc2 did any work in reception.

Augustbreeze · 14/09/2020 14:33

Let's try @Humphriescushion! I suggested this on the Daily Numbers thread, which has a tighter focus.

I've just posted something there which I'll go and copy over to here as it's not strictly about numbers!
Thanks

Augustbreeze · 14/09/2020 14:35

Here we are, my comment 13 mins ago:
Daily numbers, graphs, analysis thread 18 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4021693-Daily-numbers-graphs-analysis-thread-18#100000749

For those not familiar, the above series of thread provides excellent data and analysis. (But some of the statistical discussion goes over my head I'm afraid!)

Humphriescushion · 14/09/2020 14:45

Thanks @ august, I drop into that thread from time to time, especially when i often cant make head nor tail of some the gov data.
Hi @ keep, oh sorry to hear that, hope all goes well, is so unsettling for them re school.
Am in france and things alarming in my area, and not hearing much about any plans to clamp down. Am expecting some announcement today but dont think much is going to change. Just read on twitter about a data breach in Wales re from the testing with phw, which is alarming.

Augustbreeze · 14/09/2020 16:23

Oh yes I saw that re Welsh test data, most alarming for public confidence.

Humphriescushion · 14/09/2020 19:28

Finally got some extra measures put in place in my area in France nothing major though( i was hoping for something a bit stricter), but is something at least. Hope it will start to have an affect. Is strange to read some of the old posts on this thread and the early ones and see where we are now.

EarlGreywithLemon · 14/09/2020 21:38

Yes please!
@Keepdistance, sorry to hear and all fingers crossed. Were you able to get tests booked easily?
@Augustbreeze , @Humphriescushion I look at the numbers thread too, though I haven’t posted as my maths isn’t nearly good enough. And yes, the statistics parts are beyond me as well.
I agree that the testing mess is so depressing. Today’s numbers were lower than yesterday’s, but what’s the use of they’re clearly unreliable? They are always lower on a Monday, but Nicola Sturgeon seemed to suggest that for Scotland they are way under- because of the testing backlog.

mac12 · 14/09/2020 22:59

Deja vu. I remember this thread from the early days of February & March, & have same horrible feeling I had then - something bad is coming our way but most people around here seem to be in complete denial. Hospital admissions rising & no effective testing system never mind track, trace & isolate. How can we be making such a mess of things again?

Keepdistance · 15/09/2020 04:07

Dc now has a cough, so usual for a cold too. Still clinging to hope that is all.

walksen · 15/09/2020 04:17

I am a supply teacher and this morning a child had to be sent home due to being sent in with a virus. Meanwhile half of the same class complained about catching colds. I've been living like a hermit out of school but managed to catch one also and had to go home after developing a cough from a cold myself. I'm apparently to stay off for 10 days if my cough does not clear up even with a negative test.

A whole year group also got sent home and were apparently in tears when they were told. The worst thing is this could and probably will happen over and over again. No wonder there were no tests available.
