Year 6 to go back first on June 1st

I’d wait until the government announces. Until then, it’s guesswork.

Sirzy · 03/05/2020 19:24

Even without clicking on the link I can tell the key word there is MAY

as yet there is no news just a ridiculous amount of speculation

PickAChew · 03/05/2020 19:25

It's not news. It's the exact same speculation that has been doing the rounds all day.

sweetkitty · 03/05/2020 19:25

I don’t know how that is going to work in practise though.

You would have to bring back janitors, dinner ladies, cleaning staff then actual teaching staff. In Scotland we finish up on the 24th June this year. As a teacher and mother of a Primary 7 child I would love it to be true but I just don’t see how it could happen

ineedaholidaynow · 03/05/2020 19:25

Schools haven't been told anything yet

LolaSmiles · 03/05/2020 19:25

It's not real news.
It's most likely the government feeding possible plans to the media to test public opinion.

It's more speculation to add to existing levels of speculation.

HipTightOnions · 03/05/2020 19:25

Did you read the article you linked to, OP, or just the headline?

AldiAisleOfCrap · 03/05/2020 19:26

@pontypridd you do realise the only news is that there are rumours in newspapers?

bathsh3ba · 03/05/2020 19:27

Hmm. Papers of every colour touting 1 June now, though the Guardian is the only one saying Y6 only. Something's afoot...

pontypridd · 03/05/2020 19:30

I read the article, yes.

Probably government is looking for feedback first. It’s likely they read Mumsnet, so this is an opportunity to give them some feedback.

Is it a good idea?

OP posts:
WellWe11Well · 03/05/2020 19:31

It’s not news about schools though! It’s just as made up as all the speculation of the last week.

itsgettingweird · 03/05/2020 19:33

If everytime a newspaper wrote about schools returning it was fact we'd have all the details now.

Last weekend they were re opening on 8th May!

There is nothing published yet.
We may have news tomorrow.

LolaSmiles · 03/05/2020 19:43

I wouldn't be surprised that there's planted users on Mumsnet involved in some of the more ridiculous school threads at the moment, or politicians of all colours are hunting for opinions.

Andrew Adonis was rantig about schools not providing fully online learning and how he was going to take them to task over it. Conveniently, he happens to be linked to a company providing online education.

iMatter · 03/05/2020 19:54

It's speculation, not news

HTH

Redlocks28 · 03/05/2020 19:55

Fake news!

LilyPond2 · 03/05/2020 19:56

This is actually a bit more specific than just speculation, as it actually says Downing Street has confirmed that they are working to a target of 1 June, subject to the latest data on infection rates. My big concern is that if Boris Johnson once comes out and announces 1 June, he won't want to backtrack on that date whatever the data says as we approach 1 June. Personally, I think if schools reopen on 1 June in anything other than a very limited way, that will pave the way to a spike in infection rates. It will be very difficult for the government to put out the message that people shouldn't be meeting up with friends if it's happily allowing children to sit close to each other in groups of thirty to a classroom.

Redlocks28 · 03/05/2020 19:58

Agreed.

TravellingSpoon · 03/05/2020 19:58

They put stories like this out there to gauge public reactions.

DD would be thrilled. HTH.

Spaghetti123 · 03/05/2020 20:01

Have you not seen the numerous threads about this today?

whatswithtodaytoday · 03/05/2020 20:02

No thanks. Our nursery seems to think they're opening on June 1st, and I really don't want to have to send my son in and be expected to be back in work.

imsooverthisdrama · 03/05/2020 20:03

Exactly!!
I May also win the lottery .
I'd wait until it's announced.

DaisylovesDonald · 03/05/2020 20:03

I have also read stories today saying the primary age children (of all years) will be back first. Just depends on what paper you’re reading I think!!
Plus I love somewhere where primary is R-yr4 followed by middle school yr5-7 so year 6 as a special year once you discount sats is meaningless here.

The80sweregreat · 03/05/2020 20:04

Channel five news said 1st June. First time I've heard an actual date mentioned.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 03/05/2020 20:07

May return.
MAY return.
I think the clue's in the bolded word, why are people desperate to paint things as fact?
It's pure speculation,same as usual.
Nothing's been announced or definite yet.
