Too soon. They need to actually be trying to stop the spread by tracing and locking those people down.
And get the teats turned around much quicker. As frankly not much point if it takes 4d and so 3 days to get symptoms and to test centre and 4 to get results. The people next would already be contagious.
Also due to asymptomatic spreaders this isnt fool proof.
Gov need to show they can actually do something right.
This issue mainly being the parents and teachers but also the possible long term effects on everyone. We do not want a generation of kids with long term side effects like damaged heart/lungs/immune systems even asthma for example.

Plus what if theres a vax by sept? Or treatment or we know for sure if kids do or dont spread it.
Or if vit D supplements help. We would be better off by sept then after a lot of sun.
Opening schools
Kids parents and teachers will get it. Some will die some hospital.
Why not just open for a few more parents who cannot wfh ie double the size of the hubs.
That then keeps the numbers low. Less risk to teachers and parents and not forcing vulnerable either to send or teach.

We will hear the exit strategy for England from Boris this week but I suspect that the return will be part-time with different year groups in on different days.
Newspapers are guessing 1 June but I think Boris should are what happens in Denmark, France and Germany before setting a date.

Redwinestillfine · 03/05/2020 20:08

It's not official, just more rumours like 13 May date a few weeks ago. Until and unless Government announce it's just speculation

Devlesko · 03/05/2020 20:09

It's a brilliant idea because it gives people choice, I hope.
So those wanting to risk their children's life or their own, can go ahead.
the rest of us can carry on protecting ourselves.

AmelieTaylor · 03/05/2020 20:12

There are many adults that clearly need to go back to school & learn the difference between 'news' & 'newspaper' 🙄

Devlesko · 03/05/2020 20:13

It's a bit scary you believe what you read in the papers. I'm worried for you, tbh.

QuestionMarkNow · 03/05/2020 20:15

I thought they wanted the Y10 and Y12 to be back first....

LilyPond2 · 03/05/2020 20:16

If/when the government does announce reopening of schools, I want to know (a) what the rules are on sending a child in if the child is fine, but someone in the child's household has, or is suspected of having, Covid-19; and (b) what happens if it becomes apparent that there is an outbreak of Covid-19 centred around a particular school. Do the authorities close the school for a period, or just watch with interest to see how many children get seriously ill and how many of their family members end up in hospital or dead?

Chienloup · 03/05/2020 20:18

Sorry? Wtf?
I would love to keep mine off, but if schools back I will also have to go back to work, so I won't have a choice. Fucking privileged opinion there.

GabsAlot · 03/05/2020 20:21

ffs not this again

LockedInMadness · 03/05/2020 20:21

I thought they wanted the Y10 and Y12 to be back first....

That would be the sensible option.

So those wanting to risk their children's life or their own, can go ahead

Hmm
Pollymalex104 · 03/05/2020 20:22

It's all speculation. There is nothing anywhere that suggests those dates. Nobody actually believes the news channels and newspapers anymore, do they? Surely we've seen enough distortion and manipulation over the last few years to have learnt that they just print what they think the public wants to read!

Hopeisnotastrategy · 03/05/2020 20:23

I’m sure the government would love to announce all their policy decisions through the Guardian.

Or maybe not.

JemimaPuddleCat · 03/05/2020 20:25

If you're going to continue spreading unfounded rumours at least add in the title that you are talking about England

Justgivemewine · 03/05/2020 20:25

Until Boris ( or one of his stand ins) comes out and says it, this is non-news and isn’t happening.

BlueBrian · 03/05/2020 20:28

This is just typical newspaper BS, one of them starts a rumour about schools going back, and all the rest join in, none of them have got any definite information, it's just waffle to fill up the pages.

Witchend · 03/05/2020 20:28

It sounds about as reliable as the Express posting that there's about to be a heatwave/10" snow/other big weather event.

I think they just make sure they post often enough that by the law of averages occasionally they can then say they were right.

Barbie222 · 03/05/2020 20:30

This morning, the same paper reported "all primary". I think they are testing waters.

LilyPond2 · 03/05/2020 20:32

Those of you who are saying it's all speculation are ignoring the fact that the Guardian has had Downing Street confirmation that the target date is 1 June. That's not to say schools will reopen on 1 June, but that date is clearly being put out by government to test the water. It's not just the Guardian reporting 1 June. Various media outlets are. They've clearly been briefed by someone in government.

mumwon · 03/05/2020 20:33

in the ww1 in 1917 they use to say "over by Christmas" this (obviously) changed (several times)

I think the term is "I believe it when I see it"

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 03/05/2020 20:35

The idea is terrifying.

Leighwalk · 03/05/2020 20:35

I say on every thread like this ( well maybe not EVERY thread - because there would never be enough hours in the day!) - there is NOTHING official yet - I speak, in my senior role to the DfE, every day.
If there are changes - they will hardly be noticeable to what we have now - after-all schools are open now and numbers attending are slowly rising. There might be a gradual increase in those eligible to be in school - nothing more.
This is newspapers trying to fill a space, with very little news about. Pure speculation

Leflic · 03/05/2020 20:36

Literally no idea how the media get paid a wage. It’s all either speculation or out of context bollocks to get a reaction.

Report facts, Investigate where the official facts are different to the truth.

onemouseplace · 03/05/2020 20:36

The Times have been saying Year 5 will be back first (along with Year 10 and 12) as they are the pupils with key tests/ exams next year. This makes far more sense to me than Year 6 who, while they do need to transition to secondary, basically have no more learning to do in Year 6.
