How long for test results?

Hi

DH has gone to get tested this morning at one of the drive through centres. It says it takes 48 hours for the results. Has anyone else done this please? Was it 48 hours, sooner or longer for results? Thanks!

DH went for his third test this morning. It was at a new testing centre near us, so much more convenient. But it was self-administered, so I’m not filled with confidence!

His symptoms all along have been a bad cough, wheezing and breathlessness. But no temp at any point and fine in every other way.

My results came back this morning as negative. I self tested on Monday morning

Fluffymulletstyle · 13/05/2020 22:01

I got my results back today, 10 days after taking the test - negative. Was strangely relieved to see that despite not feeling like I had coronavirus. I was tested after reporting abdo pain on the covid app. If I was self isolating I would be annoyed it took 10 days to get the result back.

Lougle · 13/05/2020 22:29

I'm really glad for you both! I've taken my 2nd test tonight, which will be collected tomorrow. All a bit irrelevant now.

MrsBennetsnerves · 14/05/2020 11:27

I've just had the test results back via test and email. It took 43 hours. I tested at the 02 centre where they make you swab yourself, and the results came back positive. My symptoms at present are slight hoarseness and tight chest. Other symptoms in the last few days have been slight sore throat, mild headache, mild fatigue. They all feel like a faint shadow of the symptoms I had around 8 weeks ago.

MrsBennetsnerves · 14/05/2020 11:40

Text and email, rather.

feelingcrook · 14/05/2020 12:21

Mine took a week.

Negative.

Really pissed off as was isolating all that time when didn't need to be apparently.

Cassandrainthenight · 14/05/2020 20:01

@MrsBennetsnerves,

Interesting, I'm an essential worker and was really ill at the beginning of February and at the end of that illness breathing actually hurt, so looking back I was nearly sure that was Covid and kind of wondered if I was immune as a result, since had to continue to work.

Now though have the symptoms of the lightest cold I ever had, the main being sore throat/scratchy voice and a little digestive problems, also spent the very first day in bed, was so tired/achy.

Still waiting for my self-administered test since Saturday, called them today and was told they'd pass on a request to the service desk, whatever it is. Potentially back to work tomorrow but can't go without test results, still have symptoms.

If it was positive it sounds like this second strain which has been speculated about a lot on MN, where you have it loads milder
second time round because you already have immunity?

MrsBennetsnerves · 14/05/2020 22:05

@Cassandrainthenight I think the second strain idea is quite possible.

Beetlebum1981 · 14/05/2020 22:18

I went to a regional test centre on 30th April, I had to self administer the test. I'm still waiting for a result - it's been 'escalated' twice and I was assured I'd hear something in 48 hours. I phoned again yesterday to be told they could raise it again but I didn't see the point. Her advice was to get tested again - most of my symptoms have cleared up now so i don't see the point in that either. They've clearly lost it.

Cassandrainthenight · 15/05/2020 00:06

@Beetlebum1981,

Wow, that's pretty annoying, and more than two weeks on! Do you think you had it or not?
I really feel like I shouldn't be so lucky to have it over and done with that easily, but also worry that I didn't shove the swab in for long enough...so wouldn't be able to trust a negative test 100% :( though not getting any result would be even worse, I hope yours turns up..

FuckYouCovid · 15/05/2020 01:20

A friend waited 6 days, another was 30 hours.

mnahmnah · 15/05/2020 16:18

Well it was another negative result.

DH spoke to the GP. They reckon it might be that he had it in the last few weeks, but wasn’t infectious by last week’s test or now. That this is a a post-viral cough that is lingering. So he’s got an inhaler, a chest x ray and blood tests. Fingers crossed we get some answers!

Lougle · 15/05/2020 21:56

So I've got a result, but I presume it was from my second test. Unclear - please order another test!

I've phoned the helpline and we agreed there really isn't any point now. We'll never know if I had CV, but it doesn't really matter now, because we're past 14 days.

Cassandrainthenight · 15/05/2020 22:27

I just got my result, 6 days on, and it's unclear too, I'm told to retest! But tomorrow it will be my 8th day, so I'm in two minds whether to go! The site says best to get tested in the first five days.

I wouldn't bother just for myself, but my DH is supposed to be unfurloughed from next week, and he got my sore throat a few days ago but will be over 7 days by the times he's back.

My only symptom left is a mildly sore throat and occasional cough (maybe only three times a day!) and teeniest discomfort in my chest. Youngest has had a cough too, my two older ones haven't shown any symptoms except teenage DS had a sore throat only for one day.

Do I retest or not? For some reason nearest test site where I went last week doesn't come up in the available test sites option. 🤔

limezandlemonz · 16/05/2020 02:12

Can I ask if you want another member of your household tested at the same time (I believe it said you could add more people) do you have to register them individually or can they just go in the car with you and your QR code? I've got a test booked for tomorrow and not sure I did it right as want my husband tested too.

Lougle · 16/05/2020 09:03

You all need your own QR code. You needed to press/ click 'add another person' when you were booking it.

limezandlemonz · 16/05/2020 09:32

Oh no! I must of missed that 🤦🏻‍♀️ will have to do another booking for him

MrsWombat · 16/05/2020 13:24

I did my test Thursday morning and got my test result today.

Lougle · 16/05/2020 15:59

@limezandlemonz when I went, my QR code didn't work, so they gave me a new one. So you might be able to take him with you and ask for a spare.

LandlockedBlues · 16/05/2020 16:38

I waited 12 days and when the result eventually came it was 'unclear'. So a total waste of time.

Lougle · 16/05/2020 19:24

Mine too, @LandlockedBlues!! But today I got a negative result. So I'm not sure if it was the 3rd May test that came back unclear (i.e. they lost it) or my 14th May test. Either way, I'm done with it.
