How long for test results?

mnahmnah · 29/04/2020 09:01

Hi

DH has gone to get tested this morning at one of the drive through centres. It says it takes 48 hours for the results. Has anyone else done this please? Was it 48 hours, sooner or longer for results? Thanks!

@doodleygirl

My partner is a key worker, yes.

If you want a test and you are not, then register for a test stating that you are working and cannot work from home. It doesn't get checked.

The test centre I went to today is huge (maybe 20 football pitches size?) and there were 4 cars there to be tested. Tens of staff sitting about sun bathing.

My point is that although the test is (imo) a total waste of time, and cannot be trusted, you won't be wasting the time of the testers since virtually nobody seems to want a test!

@doodleygirl

We’re both key workers. However, a friend of mine isn’t a key worker and is also on mat leave from work anyway at the moment. She rang 111 and they arranged for her to go to her local Coronavirus testing centre straight away

Did anyone get results today?

Did you, @Lougle?

KindnessCrusader · 09/05/2020 18:28

Test back today! It's a negative. Although my GP says this is 'bo^*ocks' and that 70% of negative tests are actually wrong. So that's reassuring Grin Hoping everyone that has been feeling rubbish is feeling much better.

Lougle · 09/05/2020 18:33

Congratulations, @KindnessCrusader. No results for me yet.

tootyfruitypickle · 09/05/2020 18:33

I got a test through the covid app. I didn’t think for a minute I had covid, but decided if it mattered to a scientist I’d do it . I think they’ll need to speed up getting the results back or what’s the point really?

TheGreatWave · 09/05/2020 18:44

Hope you are feeling better too kindness today my chest feels a lot less tight and my temperature is dropping back down (was only slightly elevated) Finishing the 7 days tomorrow (we haven't needed to go anywhere so just stayed in naturally) and then back to normal on Monday.

olivesandpecans · 09/05/2020 18:45

I had a test at my csection preop yesterday (I have no symptoms but my trust are testing all pregnant women who will need to go to the ward). I received the results within 24 hours- negative.

Lougle · 09/05/2020 19:01

This is the frustrating thing. If DH had symptoms, he could go back to work on Monday. But he didn't (he was tested as a key worker who couldn't work because a family member had symptoms). Because my test hasn't come back, we could end up in a situation where I can go out and he has to stay home!

BG2015 · 12/05/2020 03:47

I went for a drive through test on Mon in Stafford (11th) very well run by the army. I'm a teacher and started with symptoms on Saturday morning and was advised by the Zoe app to book a test.

Steady flow of cars going through. Three stations to advise and give information out. Self administered. Not sure if I did it correctly but I did gag so got pretty far back.

Hoping to hear Wednesday morning but who knows.

Lougle · 12/05/2020 09:38

Well I phoned again today. Day 9. They have decided to send out a new test kit to me. Even if I get it tomorrow, send it the next day (you can only take the test between 9pm and 7am) and get the result within 24 hours, it will come back when our 14 day isolation period has ended. Confused

TheGreatWave · 12/05/2020 10:02

lougle that is dreadful. Did you read about some tests needing to be sent to the US for testing?

IllhaveaPpleaseBob · 12/05/2020 10:58

I had a test on Sunday morning at a very empty local drive through test centre. I swabbed myself (very thoroughly- enough to induce gagging and tears streaming down!). I was pretty sure I didn't have it (as I haven't been anywhere due to husband shielding) and got a negative result this morning exactly 48 hours later.

Lougle · 12/05/2020 12:02

@TheGreatWave yes, I did wonder if mine is there. I doubt I'll ever know. 4 schools are missing their site manager because of this.

bluetongue · 12/05/2020 12:30

Are the home tests swabbing the same areas as the tests taken at testing centres? I had a test at a testing centre and I have to admit I found it really unpleasant and flinched a couple of times. I’d rather have a blood test any day!

Lougle · 12/05/2020 15:56

Yes, exactly the same. The only difference was the colour of the vial.

refusetobeasheep · 12/05/2020 16:01

mine took 7 days

wembollian · 12/05/2020 16:09

My DH still hasn't got his back after 8 days.

mnahmnah · 12/05/2020 20:57

Well we’re back to square 1! DH spoke to the GP last week, who gave him antibiotics for a chest infection. He’s taken the whole course and isn’t any different. He has gone back to work, but they’re not convinced he’s ok. So he’s been sent home and told to get another test. GP were no help. Refused to see him and told him to ring 111. But they just read off the standard Covid script. So he’s quarantining in the bedroom again. I’m on the sofa bed downstairs again, waiting on him hand and foot, until he can book in for another test and get the results! Bloody nightmare.

I was tested and got my result within 30 hours

Fluffymulletstyle · 12/05/2020 23:13

I'm still waiting for results. Tested 3rd may. 9 days ago....

Lougle · 12/05/2020 23:15

@Fluffymulletstyle I was tested on 3rd May, too! Are you in the South? I wonder if our tests are together.

Fluffymulletstyle · 12/05/2020 23:19

@lougle no I had the test done in Nottingham. I do wander if the tests from that weekend were sent to the USA though. I was offered the test from the covid symptom reporting app after reporting abd pain. I don't think I have it.

Lougle · 12/05/2020 23:41

I wondered that too, @Fluffymulletstyle. I've had the notification that a new test kit has been sent, but I won't get a courier until Thursday, and DH can go back to work on Friday anyway.

Cassandrainthenight · 13/05/2020 11:23

I was tested on 9th of May, Saturday, no results yet as of now on Wednesday. Like a PP It was run by the army but self-administered, four different stops and flip charts. We were told somebody would check we'd done it right, but then that person said they didn't need to and we should just hand it in.
I couldn't hold the swab up my nose for 10 sec, maybe 2 sec it was too slobbery and made me shudder 😬

Has anyone had a positive result who self administered? And what were your symptoms like!
My main symptom is a sore throat/loss of voice (which I thought was rare anyway), cough is not bad, the only unusual symptom for a cold I've had was digestion problems.
Symptoms all here, supposed to go back to work on Saturday and wish I'd get the results soon...
