How long for test results?

Hi

DH has gone to get tested this morning at one of the drive through centres. It says it takes 48 hours for the results. Has anyone else done this please? Was it 48 hours, sooner or longer for results? Thanks!

When I had to register for the drive through test, I got an email confirmation of my appointment. But when my QR scan failed, I was given a card with a new QR scan and a barcode - I had to register that by scanning the QR Code and scanning the barcode of the test.

They told me to do that within 24 hours, but I'm not very trusting of systems (former nurse) so I did it before I took the test. When I registered it, I got a confirmation that it was registered on the screen, but no text or email.

mnahmnah · 06/05/2020 17:47

Actually, I think he got confirmation through entering his code wherever it said on the card he was given and it confirmed he was in the system. The text was before he went, to confirm and give him the code to scan

I had to call back once I'd located my barcode. The call centre person that I spoke to said that they are currently advising 7-10 days for results.

I absolutely know it's nobody's fault and it's unprecedented demand, but I was so hoping we could get back to work and to earning if all was well. And now I feel a lot better too, so I'm pretty sure it will be negative.

Lougle · 06/05/2020 20:11

DH's boss will be happy, I'm sure Hmm DD3's fever went within 24 hours and her appetite returned the following day. I'm the one who is coughing, but it could well just be a cold.

Fluffymulletstyle · 06/05/2020 20:19

I got tested on Sunday and no results back here. I'd be very surprised if it was positive as I've been ok since. I was offered a test from the tracer app due to reporting abdominal pain which has now completely gone.

I am slightly paranoid I've forgotten to do something. I was given a card with a barcode on and like others have said there was a sign with something about registering a barcode on but it wasn't particularly prominent and nothing on the card. I registered online and scanned the qr code. Fingers crossed I've done it correctly if be beating myself up if I'd wasted a test!

wembollian · 06/05/2020 20:31

Well, I asked about this @Fluffymulletstyle and he said they have streamlined the system now so you didn't need to scan your barcode (he said the signs were older and needed taking down). He said it was all linked in to the QR code now. All I came away with was a card 'receipt' with a bar code stuck to it.

Fluffymulletstyle · 06/05/2020 20:35

Thank you @wembollian someone told me yesterday you'd needed to register in 24 hours which I hadn't done. I felt really guilty and annoyed with myself!

mnahmnah · 06/05/2020 20:55

@Fluffymulletstyle

DH tried to register his code when he got home and it said it had already been done. The system has been much more streamlined this time.

We’re pretty sure it will be a positive test. He’s got a terrible cough. Breathlessness, although that’s gone now. No temp. He’s been quarantining for over a week now and it’s really hard with two young children and I’m working from home.

I can't believe they are allowing people to test themselves at the drive through centres. The swabs need to go in uncomfortably far & I doubt many people will do it properly which will show a skewed result.

mnahmnah · 06/05/2020 21:14

@buckeejit

We were surprised too with the first test. Especially as clearly the people there messed the rest up. At least with the second test we know it’s been done properly.

I think the false neg rate for self administered swabs will go through the roof.

I was really surprised that I had to do the test myself. The instructions, whilst not complicated as such, had many steps so it was a lot to take in.

The swabs need to go in uncomfortably far & I doubt many people will do it properly which will show a skewed result.

I have decided I have a big fat tongue, and it was really difficult to swab my tonsils and back of throat, it must have been really far back as I really gagged and couldn't continue. Then the nose, that may have gone a bit too far up as my nose as that was very uncomfortable.

Mine was only this morning so we'll see how long it takes.

Lougle · 06/05/2020 22:00

I did the tests for DH and DD3. I was a nurse until recently, so used to taking swabs. DH went visibly pale as I did DD3's and she yelled 'you're going too far!' and 'Did you want a bit of brain??', so I think I went far enough Grin

mnahmnah · 06/05/2020 22:05

I thought DH was being a drama queen about how far the swabs go and gagging. Maybe not! Grin

Fluffymulletstyle · 06/05/2020 22:08

I coughed and almost wretched it was that far in and as for the nasal one....it did feel thry were poking my brain!

TheGreatWave · 06/05/2020 22:12

I probably did go far enough in then.

11MrsLuther · 06/05/2020 23:18

My daughter was tested on Monday, no results yet.

mnahmnah · 07/05/2020 12:49

DH has had his results! Negative Grin. So relieved. Normal lockdown life can resume. He can return to work and earn money again. I can sleep in my bed again. The kids can cuddle daddy again. Just hope this is all over soon!

Although he does have a horrible hacking cough still. So he’s rung the GP. Maybe a chest infection??

Lougle · 07/05/2020 18:34

That's great news! I still haven't had mine yet. It's 4 days since my test was done.

Chocolatear · 07/05/2020 18:39

We were tested on Monday, no results yet. We were told 3 - 5 days, but with the Bank Holiday I think it will be longer.

mnahmnah · 07/05/2020 18:48

Have you both rung the helpline? They can check that you are definitely registered in the system. That’s what went wrong with DH’s first test.

OP posts:
Lougle · 07/05/2020 19:02

I haven't yet, as it says 5 days, but I might do that.

Lougle · 07/05/2020 19:08

I've just got through. They're saying 5-7 days, so phone back on day 7. They didn't take my details. They confirmed that the home tests are quicker than the test centre.

wembollian · 07/05/2020 19:27

Do you think the seven days include weekends? Because if not, it'll be the end of next week before the results come back Shock.

I just want to go back to work now!

KindnessCrusader · 07/05/2020 19:33

I've done it today. I'm so worried I didn't swab my throat for the full seconds between gagging.
