Will you stick to the rules if lockdown in the UK is extended for another 3 weeks

Just a Yes or No thread there are hundreds on the ins and outs of this.

This morning I read that Matt Hancock is claiming support for an extension is strong amongst the public but that’s not the impression I’m getting from social media

So, will you stick to the rules if lockdown in the UK is extended for another 3 weeks

Yes or No

I am just hoping that our shielding time is not extended because others cannot complete lockdown

Actually your shielding time will be longer because of lockdown. The longer it lasts and the more people comply the longer you will need to shield.

Maria53 · 29/04/2020 20:26

Yes. But I'll be seeing my immediate family after that. Struggling with being alone all the time now

Happygirl79 · 29/04/2020 20:27

Yes

booboo24 · 29/04/2020 20:29

Yes

GinnyStrupac · 29/04/2020 20:32

Yes.

Chienloup · 29/04/2020 20:32

Yes, of course!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/04/2020 20:41

Thinking about it again, I obviously will comply to a point but I will drive over to see my uncle and talk to him from a distance even though it's not counted as an essential journey to some.

PeterWeg · 29/04/2020 20:48

Yes

SpnBaby1967 · 29/04/2020 21:36

Yes, but other than going into the office and partaking in my sport nothing much is different. Oh and the kids not being at school.

I miss my best friend and I hope the rules will be relaxed to at least allow us to sit 2 metres apart and have a good catch up.

I mean, I miss the pub for example and the ease of a supermarket shop but I'm not finding this dire.

My husband is struggling much more. He needs the freedom to be able to go out for a drive, for example, if he wants.

AbsolutWitch · 29/04/2020 21:47

Hell no. Sad I’m in such a minority sad

@Bizawit

I'm not sure you are to be honest, I just don't think most will admit it on this thread.

I don't agree with any further lockdown, if it happens our economy may not recover. People are suffering hard from this in far more ways than just catching COVID. I really do believe we're at the point where the cure is worse than the disease.

Andorra155 · 29/04/2020 21:51

Yes

puffinandkoala · 29/04/2020 21:56

The death rate in this country looks set to be the worst in Europe and yet some people don't seem to care

Not because people are camping in the woods. Might be stupid but who are they going to infect?

TheStarryNight · 29/04/2020 22:11

Yes.

Bizawit · 29/04/2020 22:31

@AbsolutWitch hope you are right!

Bizawit · 29/04/2020 22:32

Also agree cure is much much worse than the disease

Inkpaperstars · 29/04/2020 22:56

Why will people have to shield for longer, the longer lockdown goes on?

How do you know the cure is worse than the disease? If the disease is continueing exponential growth, then neither you nor the economy has experienced that yet, so how do you know? What businesses and services do you envisage continuing without being severely impeded by said exponential growth?

Genuine questions. Really interested as I can't see it but would love to know if there is evidence to the contrary.

Olliephaunt4eyes · 29/04/2020 23:06

Yes, but I desperately hope it lightens after that.

@Inkpaperstars

I’ll try to be concise!

Why will people have to shield for longer, the longer lockdown goes on?

Because the purpose of lockdown is to flatten the curve to avoid everyone getting sick at the same time and overwhelming the health service- not to eliminate the virus. The virus has spread too far and wide in our communities for the latter. The only way that we can rid ourselves of this virus is through population level immunity - either through a vaccine or because so many people have had it that there is nowhere else for it to spread. The lockdown slows the rate of the latter (so that we all don’t get the virus at the same time), hence vulnerable people have to shield for longer.

I’ll answer the second group of questions in a separate post!

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 30/04/2020 07:53

Mostly yes but I will be having distance coffees in gardens with family

Dadnotamum72 · 30/04/2020 08:07

The opening post asked for a yes or no, is the fact that many didn't do that the same in theory as the answer to the question that many will just do their own thing and not stick to the rules.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/04/2020 08:26

The opening post asked for a yes or no, is the fact that many didn't do that the same in theory as the answer to the question that many will just do their own thing and not stick to the rules

But those not sticking to the rules aren't necessarily increasing overall risk. If you have a chat with a friend/relative outside and several metres apart whether you walk past their house during your daily exercise or you 'accidentally' bump into them while out and about, it's not within the rules but the risk is so vanishingly small when compared with other activities that are within the rules (eg going to work in an essential job, occasional visits to supermarkets) that it's not worth worrying about.

So it's not a blanket yes/no answer and it's not strictness of rule compliance that reduces the risk, it's not being in close contact with other people, which in many circumstances can be done despite not following the rules to the letter.
