Its just so shit all these loved ones gone all these mothers and fathers leaving young children behind 😥

Can't understand why people want to go out and risk it regardless of lockdown... so scary!

OP posts:

@IvinghoeBeacon

I hope you’re doing ok.

I really feel for women who are having babies during all this.

Kazzyhoward · 27/04/2020 13:26

My friend is having radiotherapy right now.

They're lucky then. My OH was half way through chemo and it was stopped with no information, no explanation, etc. The oncology dept won't even ring him back despite him leaving messages with reception twice a week. They've thrown him to the wolves. He can't even get his usual monthly blood tests to monitor various levels as the GP surgery have stopped doing routine blood tests too!

IvinghoeBeacon · 27/04/2020 13:36

Thank you TriangleBingoBongo as with all these things there are plenty worse off than me, but as you point out it is the combination of severely reduced support in the community as well as staff shortages as well as visiting restrictions as well as no family support all at once - women and children will slip through the cracks far more than before. And suddenly lots of things that even MNers admitted were important for maternal and infant health turn out to be disposable. But sadly it’s not worth trying to talk about them on here now as you just get the “I gave birth alone and had no family support so get on with it you weakling and think of coronavirus victims” responses

Flaxmeadow · 27/04/2020 13:52

The notion proffered by the non essential work martyrs that their family will starve if they don't break the lockdown is so disingenuous

Ragwort · 27/04/2020 14:26

Flax really? Hmm I volunteer at a Food Bank, we are busier than ever because so many people have lost their jobs, I can fully understand why those in work want to keep working.

What is your suggestion for people who want to go out to work even if their roles are ‘non essential’?

Flaxmeadow · 27/04/2020 14:33

What is your suggestion for people who want to go out to work even if their roles are ‘non essential’?

That they try to have a bit more patience and stamina? Be furloughed or other schemes, or claim Universla Credit, just like EVERYONE ELSE in the country has to.

Ragwort · 27/04/2020 14:37

Patience and stamina when you can’t pay your rent and feed your family? Confused.

Sunshinegirl82 · 27/04/2020 14:37

People going to work is not breaking the lockdown, essential or not. You are permitted to leave home to go to work if that work cannot be done from home. It doesn’t have to be “essential work” at all. Those are the rules the government set out.

lynsey91 · 27/04/2020 14:38

Well it seems quite a few of my idiot neighbours have decided lockdown has ended for them (if it ever started) and there are 7 children from 5 different households playing in the street.

I looked out because my dog was barking and I wondered what all the noise was. They were on their bikes to start but then stood around in a group close together, some even touching each other.

I assume the parents aren't concerned about them. Well I think in some cases I already knew that. Next door were supposedly self isolating as one had a cough and yet they still went out shopping a few times a week They have family very close by who could have done that for them.

IvinghoeBeacon · 27/04/2020 14:40

“Patience and stamina”

Absolutely clueless, some posters

Xenia · 27/04/2020 14:40

People going to work is obeying the rules, doing what the state wants and ensuring teachers and nurses are paid. It is not a wicked immoral thing - it is utterly vital or there will be no NHS, no universal credit - nothing.

userxx · 27/04/2020 14:41

That they try to have a bit more patience and stamina? Be furloughed or other schemes, or claim Universla Credit, just like EVERYONE ELSE in the country has to.

Do you realise the self employed are being told still to work by the government? No scheme is available for them until June. Doesn't make them martyrs.

Thefaceofboe · 27/04/2020 14:42

You do know its not just key workers who are allowed to go out to work?

Eugh yes I did but it’s not aimed at people making a living but the people taking advantage. I’m a keyworker and my partner isn’t but he works in construction and is still going to work.

Flaxmeadow · 27/04/2020 15:06

Patience and stamina when you can’t pay your rent and feed your family

So how come those who stick with the lockdown are managing

Are there vast swathes of families with no food on the table or being turned out of their home? Really? Because going by the amount of people queueing up outside B&Q I very much doubt it

Absolutely clueless, some posters

I lost my job. I had no savings and I live in rented housing. I haven't starved or been trufed out. No one I know is wealthy or has much in the way of savings, so I'm not clueless at all.

A relative of mine with a young family, min wage and non essential, actually found it easier to claim UC than in the past.

If you cannot access a scheme, small business etc, and you have no money/savings under a certain amount, then you can claim UC. Not sure what part of this people don't understand?

Millions of people are doing exactly that without breaking the lockdown

Sunshinegirl82 · 27/04/2020 15:18

But going to work if you cannot work from home Is not breaking the lockdown. It is expressly permitted, regardless of occupation.

IvinghoeBeacon · 27/04/2020 15:40

“Millions of people are doing exactly that without breaking the lockdown”

And the people who can’t aren’t breaking the lockdown either. That is the point

bruffin · 27/04/2020 15:42

So how come those who stick with the lockdown are managing Because a lot of us are able to wfh and are on the same wages and in my case better off because im not paying £40 a week to go to work or spending £5+ a day plus on lunch. DH and DS are now getting free lunch and breakfast at work as well. We are the lucky ones I know.
But i really dont get what your problem is Flexmeadow but then anyone who uses capitals on MN really shouldnt be taken seriously.

Greenpoppins · 27/04/2020 16:42

@Kazzyhoward I'm so sorry, that must be terribly distressing. Especially since you aren't hearing anything.

That they try to have a bit more patience and stamina
This is horribly judgemental and people going on UC is a stupid idea. Let's try and preserve the jobs that are there by finding a middle ground asap. The virus isn't going anywhere and we can't stay in lockdown forever.

Flaxmeadow · 27/04/2020 16:51

people going on UC is a stupid idea.

Not when people are claiming they can't put food on the table it isn't

Greenpoppins · 27/04/2020 16:57

@flaxmeadow read the sentence that follows. Let's try and preserve the jobs that are there by finding a middle ground asap

Selectively quoting people is ridiculous. Preserving jobs is better for everyone than UC.

EdgarAllenCrow · 27/04/2020 17:12

There are many, many posters on MN that a few weeks ago were predicting the collapse of the NHS, people dying in the streets, dead bodies piled up in ice skating rinks and using that to try and control others and in some cases be downright abusive to other posters not obeying their 'rules'.

Since that hasn't happened and rates of hospital admissions and hospital deaths are down, many acute hospital beds empty, some Nightingale hospitals closed down etc, and a potential loosening of restrictions in the near future, they still have to try and find a way to have a go at perceived 'rule breakers' with little evidence they're the 'problem'.

They picked a course and now feel they can't backtrack because they'll look stupid. It's human nature

doghairismyglitter · 27/04/2020 19:14

Flax’s comments just get more and more ridiculous as the weeks go on Hmm

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 27/04/2020 19:32

Be furloughed or other schemes, or claim Universla Credit, just like EVERYONE ELSE in the country has to

Im very very confused

Am i correct in thinking that you want people to jack in their jobs and go on UC so they can stay home?

Flaxmeadow · 27/04/2020 19:41

Flax’s comments just get more and more ridiculous as the weeks go on

Though not as ridiculous as only making petty snipes at someone. With no constructive counter argument whatsoever

Flaxmeadow · 27/04/2020 19:43

Am i correct in thinking that you want people to jack in their jobs and go on UC so they can stay home?

You're thinking is incorrect. Hope that helps
