Am I missing something? Everyone seems to have gone back to normal?!

So much traffic here today, we live on a main road and it's been quiet for weeks now but today it's suddenly back to how it was pre lockdown.
Loads of people out on the streets, in quite big groups, a massive load of runners in a group just gone by and earlier a huge group of cyclists
And I've not been watching out particularly we our living room looks out over the road and I've been stuck under DS with the windows open and just looked up when I've heard noise.
Do you think people have had enough and just gone back to normal after all the media articles this week?
Did I miss an announcement? Not being disingenuous honestly wondering, I can't find anything online

I missed Priti Patel : I assume it was more of the same?

ToffeeYoghurt · 25/04/2020 16:21

Hasn't Georgia (US) got a very low number of cases? The complete opposite of the UK. We can hardly compare.

dalrympy · 25/04/2020 16:23

I suspect that the authorities will be ok with this slightly higher rate of activity as it will show whether lifting restriction will cause a new wave.

This was they get to see the result without having to do anything. If it happens, then they get to blame the stupid public who ignored them.

notagaincharlie · 25/04/2020 16:24

The big change around me has been the 'you can drive for a walk'. We live in a rural area with car parks for walkers and they are all full. A week ago, the police were turning people back. Now, masses of family groups, pushchairs, ambling around on narrow paths.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2020 16:26

Yes, herd immunity without them admitting it or taking responsibility for it as people were fed up and taking matters into their own hands. The nice April weather hasn't helped matters either.

GabsAlot · 25/04/2020 16:27

Agree notagaincharlie- think that was the a really bad decsion we'd just been told not to drive then it changed back

Chocolatecakeandpinkcustard · 25/04/2020 16:29

What difference is it going to make to infections if people drive to go for a walk, or walk straight out the door?

Honestly the lack of critical thinking is astounding.

MarshaBradyo · 25/04/2020 16:29

I know people keep saying so they can blame etc

But it’s not part of it imo. They may have modelled that we’d be hopeless at sticking to it early on but not to blame anyone. They’ll just adapt and move on taking new data.

effingterrified · 25/04/2020 16:29

ToffeeYoghurt - "I think the fairest solution is those who want to "go back to normal", ignoring the fact there's a highly contagious virus circulating, should sign something confirming they consent to being at the back of the queue for any medical care if there's a second wave."

Yes. That seems reasonable, doesn't it.

Cam77 · 25/04/2020 16:31

800+ deaths today official figures (reality probably at least 1000) and 4900 new confirmed cases and people are easing up? Crazy.

Springhere · 25/04/2020 16:33

Our neighbour had a group of friends round for a party in his garden yesterday. The same neighbour who goes ott every Thursday banging pans and screaming on his doorstep. Such hypocrisy. These people are putting other lives at risk. We have the highest daily mortality and new cases in the world apart from America. We are still in deep crisis.

angelsonbareskin · 25/04/2020 16:35

"oh fuck its priti patel"

Yes, the one who wants to bring back the death penalty. We should probably be worried. Be prepared for much stricter measures

dementedma · 25/04/2020 16:35

And over 800 new deaths announced, after a couple of days of drops. Complacency will come with a price

Ontheboardwalk · 25/04/2020 16:36

Went to do the weekly drug and food drop for shielded relative earlier and the main roads in the city were actually surprisingly quiet.

On my road however the lockdown rules don't need to be followed at a weekend anymore. Round here you can have a party for 20 if you fancy it. Or what about 3 households (8 people) of family coming and sitting lined up on joint wall chatting to you and yours while you pass the biscuits round. Yeah of course that’s permitted.

Winds me up big time

Frompcat · 25/04/2020 16:37

Do you also think that people who smoke, drink too much and are obese should be at the back of the line for medical treatment?

Carlislemumof4 · 25/04/2020 16:37

Wider spread of the virus in to rural communities.

Cherrysoup · 25/04/2020 16:38

Traffic is almost at normal levels at rush hour this week, very different to last week.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2020 16:38

Having people round , bbq's and the like have never really stopped for some. They are just more blatant about it.
It makes me upset as I can't see my old dad in a care home and following rules yet others are doing this.
Doesn't surprise me though and I can see all sides why it's happening to be honest.
I think it's been mixed messages but Priti Patel said it hasnt! Going by these threads I think it was.

Inkpaperstars · 25/04/2020 16:38

I wonder if the people who are easing up realise that R must be below one or lockdown will get stricter, but even more so...the further below one R is, the more options we will have for life after lockdown. If they want to be able to live more normally in the near future they have to put in the work now. If they don't comoly we will all suffer extended measures.

I know some people are wilfully ignorant but the govt need to state this again also.

Inkpaperstars · 25/04/2020 16:39

Comoly? Comply

Frompcat · 25/04/2020 16:39

What difference is it going to make to infections if people drive to go for a walk,

What if I drive 20 minutes down the road to me to a larger area of green space? That's still in London - how am I bringing infections to rural communities by doing that?

Cam77 · 25/04/2020 16:39

However you look at it, easing restrictions when confirmed daily cases are still around the 5000 mark is asking for trouble.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2020 16:40

People don't care anymore is the feeling I'm getting. The press have a lot to answer for as well.

GabsAlot · 25/04/2020 16:40

im getting so annoyed with patel she keeps saying theres no mixed message about going out and its ok for b and q to open

so why not open everything then

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 25/04/2020 16:41

No change here, it's still very quiet ( live in a big city).
