Am I missing something? Everyone seems to have gone back to normal?!

So much traffic here today, we live on a main road and it's been quiet for weeks now but today it's suddenly back to how it was pre lockdown.
Loads of people out on the streets, in quite big groups, a massive load of runners in a group just gone by and earlier a huge group of cyclists
And I've not been watching out particularly we our living room looks out over the road and I've been stuck under DS with the windows open and just looked up when I've heard noise.
Do you think people have had enough and just gone back to normal after all the media articles this week?
Did I miss an announcement? Not being disingenuous honestly wondering, I can't find anything online

Lockdown still in force here. Street's noisy only because people are mowing front lawns and kids are playing in their garden. I've seen more individual walkers and joggers than before but maybe more people are sick of each other's company and need a bit of time alone!

ihatethecold · 25/04/2020 14:50

yeah there is definitely a bit more traffic where I am.
Not seeing lots of people about though.

Sameold2020 · 25/04/2020 14:50

I haven't noticed any groups out, but prior to the clarification of the rules, I hadn't been in a car for a month, whereas now we have driven 5 minutes twice to exercise for 1.5 hours. We definitely wouldn't have done this 2 weeks ago, even though where we drive to is isolated.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 14:50

I don’t get the whole ‘gone back to normal’ thing... where are people going? Everywhere is shut! My normal on a Saturday would be something like a walk at a NT property, pub lunch, maybe an afternoon in a beer garden in this weather... no chance of going back to normal! Or do you just mean they’re going to b&q etc? Which they’re allowed to do?

feelingdizzy · 25/04/2020 14:51

I think so my neighbours, doctor and policeman, cutting down tree together, other neighbour then joined in, no social distancing.Other neighbours car must have been out 3/4 times.Next door teen son has friend in. I'm lying in my garden which faces the road so have watched this. Nothing I can do. I totally get people have had enough.Part of me thinks is that what the government actually wants,I've been watching briefings and how news is shared,am thinking that they actually want people out and about, remember herd immunity, bit dont want to be blamed for it.

saywhatwhatnow · 25/04/2020 14:52

Lots more people out here today too. I took the DC to our usually very quiet country park, where we normally see a handful of people over the morning. Today it was packed!

exiledfromcornwall · 25/04/2020 14:55

I worry whether the daily briefings are contributing to this. When people hear that we are going in the right direction and the lockdown is working, e.g. doubling in the number of deaths taking longer, one would hope that would be an incentive to carry on with it, but maybe people are hearing that and thinking, okay maybe I can relax a bit now.

bluebeck · 25/04/2020 14:56

Nope

Quiet as usual where I am (South Coast) not busier at all.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 14:57

Just went for our walk and no busier than normal here. If anything the streets were quieter as everyone is in their garden.

MorrisZapp · 25/04/2020 15:00

This sentiment has been posted every day since the first week of lockdown. Cases and deaths still broadly going down, despite posters belief there will be a fresh spike because Sandra was exchanging pleasantries over her fence.

lockedown · 25/04/2020 15:01

Seems like it was yesterday where we live - in North London. Plenty of people out going out for their daily walks. Kids cycling. Everyone trying to maintain a distance. Some wearing masks, most aren't. No big groups here. As much as I am enjoying the great weather, I wish it was raining so that most people wouldn't feel the need to go outside. We crossed 20k hospital deaths! Don't know why people would stop taking the situation seriously.

LindainLockdown · 25/04/2020 15:02

Yes lots more activity in my area including a few families nearby having friends and family to visit. The government need to give a plan and guidance on relaxing lockdown now so it can be done in a more controlled way otherwise the infringements will just keep increasing.

Devlesko · 25/04/2020 15:03

There are a lot more people in our park today, we are leaving it until nearly dark so we can social distance.
Let them get on with it and kill themselves, We're going nowhere, except out garden.
The sooner we get to the 66k dead the sooner we can get on with our lives.

HandfulOfFlowers · 25/04/2020 15:03

Businesses have had time to implement new socially distanced ways of working do can now adapt and reopen. I know several factories that are reopening next week. People are adapting. It was never intended that the entire country would grind to a complete halt, even though some people on here seem to love that idea.

effingterrified · 25/04/2020 15:03

I live on a main road and it's still gloriously quiet here.

In the garden, I can imagine I'm in the deepest countryside, no traffic or passers by.

I'm loving the birdsong.

So think the OP is talking bollocks. Hmm

BeetrootRocks · 25/04/2020 15:03

I'm not back to normal
Work in an office in Central London and not been there for weeks
DH on altered shifts as a keyworker
Kids not at school
Shops closed
Restaurants, pubs closed
News only Corona virus

Nope not normal here at all

LindainLockdown · 25/04/2020 15:05

Although I did read because they have no plan they are just going to let lockdown be ended naturally by people doing their own thing. I am definitely going out more now and will continue to do so, mostly because I am infuriated by the shit approach of the complete shower supposedly in charge.

ExpletiveDelighted · 25/04/2020 15:06

Still very, very quiet here. Very little traffic, pedestrians and cyclists all seem to be obeying social distancing.

formerbabe · 25/04/2020 15:06

Yep totally agree that everyone seems to have forgotten what's going on.

MrsJonesAndMe · 25/04/2020 15:08

Nothing has changed here.... the one family who still seems to be mingling with their 4 (adult) children and numerous grandchildren and even one baby great grandchild, have been doing so since day 1.

Everyone else is doing what they need to do. A few going to work, people walking their dogs or jogging/cycling or children dropping off shopping for elderly parents but staying a distance away for a quick chat and then leaving.

MorrisZapp · 25/04/2020 15:08

Nothing is remotely normal! Normal is going to work and kids going to school. Using public transport, shopping as a pastime, and going to pubs and cafes.

LindainLockdown · 25/04/2020 15:08

I'll take my chances on being one of the 66k . Anyhow people who wish to continue to wear their hair shirts can continue to do so in splendid isolation in their garden.

tainot · 25/04/2020 15:09

I went food shopping yesterday and most people have given up on the 2 metre rule, it was so stressful. I was surrounded at one point and I just shouted 'everyone's too close' and stormed off and safe to say they all avoided me for the rest of the shop Grin

BarefootHippieChick · 25/04/2020 15:09

Where are they all going though, everywhere still appears to be closed. We need a month of solid rain.

MyKingdomforaNameChange · 25/04/2020 15:10

I wish I could open my business, but was made to shut as it's non essential. I'll be waiting until the government says it's ok before I do.

How come B&Q is allowed to be open? I thought it was still food shops and pharmacies only?
