Am I missing something? Everyone seems to have gone back to normal?!

So much traffic here today, we live on a main road and it's been quiet for weeks now but today it's suddenly back to how it was pre lockdown.
Loads of people out on the streets, in quite big groups, a massive load of runners in a group just gone by and earlier a huge group of cyclists
And I've not been watching out particularly we our living room looks out over the road and I've been stuck under DS with the windows open and just looked up when I've heard noise.
Do you think people have had enough and just gone back to normal after all the media articles this week?
Did I miss an announcement? Not being disingenuous honestly wondering, I can't find anything online

Is your DS a baby or is he a fully grown adult and you need help? Grin. Yeah - normal life seems to have been resumed by many.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/04/2020 14:14

Things have got a bit more back to normal. B&Q now open to the public. Construction companies eg Taylor Wimpey back to work next week.

JellyBelly78 · 25/04/2020 14:16

Selfish people, new cases will increase and we’ll be locked down for longer.

Aberforthsgoat · 25/04/2020 14:17

@DownWhichOfLate haha he's a baby so you can reign in the rescue operation Grin

Yep, definitely the same where we are. Live on a main road, seems like any other Saturday, group of cyclists went past earlier etc. Also seen on my Instagram lots of people seemingly sat with their extended family in pictures/videos. If this isn't what the government want (which I don't think it is) I believe they need to do an announcement reminding people we are on lockdown and nothing has changed, I also know it is very hard for then to indicate an exit strategy but some indication of a plan would help, I think a large amount of people are thinking screw it now.

Letsdrinkgin · 25/04/2020 14:21

Everything is normal for me and I sometimes forget there's lockdown. There has always been lots of people out and about where I live

slipperywhensparticus · 25/04/2020 14:21

Yes everyone is out now

Noname99 · 25/04/2020 14:21

A lot of people are done with this now. There seems little point .... we’ve ‘protected’ the nhs .... we’ve got more ventilators then are needed and far more capacity than we need - the nightingale hospitals are empty!

The WHO announced today that there is no evidence that people cant catch Covid multiple times ....that’s the final ‘straw’ for me ....... if having antibodies is ineffective, then any vaccine is at best partially effective or not at all. We are going to have to live with this .....like we do do with flu (before any one howls I know it’s not flu .... I’m saying we have to learn to live with it like we do flu - no 100% effective treatment or vaccine) so let’s get on with it

PilatesPeach · 25/04/2020 14:26

Apparently we've got Priti Patel on later to tell us all of and warn us of tougher restrictions/police powers.

imsooverthisdrama · 25/04/2020 14:29

Well I don't know where there going , if it's to the supermarket or B&Q then not my idea of fun to spend ages queuing. I'd rather stay home .
I do think people are getting fed up though we are not living just existing at the moment.
I do think places should open up as I fear some will never re open as they just won't be able to afford it .

Frariedeamin · 25/04/2020 14:30

Boris et al were very clear when they put this is place that they could only expect compliance for a short period of time - not sure why this is a surprise to anyone!

onemouseplace · 25/04/2020 14:33

I walked up to our local green space mid-morning and the traffic was noticeably busier than it's been for ages on the main roads - it was no different to usual to be honest.

Local roads were still very quiet though.

FakeFraudSquad · 25/04/2020 14:36

Next door are being shielded and I’ve just watched them have a 20 minute chat on the main road with some passers by at very close proximity with lots of hearty laughter and no doubt spit flying everywhere.

Roads are heaving. I’ve seen people playing football, having family picnics etc. Some friends of ours, one of whom is 8 months on from a bowel resection and 18 months chemo met up with their son and daughter in law (both doctors) and their grandchildren (primary aged and still in school with other key workers children).

Meanwhile, my family have a small care home where 5 residents and 10 staff have tested positive for Co-vid. One has died. No doubt it will spread to remaining residents despite the best possible standards of infection control. They are now having to use agency staff also. Lots of them have children at school with other key workers children, partners, husbands and wives etc at home. This is far from over. The Coronavirus was brought into the home after a resident was discharged back into the home after a brief stay in hospital without being tested for Coronavirus and being asymptomatic. They are also continuing to be pressured to take new Covid positive residents to “release the burden on the NHS”. This is far from over. There’s easily going to be a second wave at this rate. I’m unlikely to survive if I get it and am being shielded.

CoronaMoaner · 25/04/2020 14:36

Since the police issued those clarification guidelines traffic here has increased. I can hear lots of people walking past our house (presumably to the nearby park), much more then last weekend.
Our local B&Q has opened and loads of people on the local fb page are asking for opening hours.
There has definitely been a change where I am. When I go for my evening walk I can hear traffic on the A road. I couldn’t this time last week.

Puppybum · 25/04/2020 14:36

I've had enough, I'm out driving and shopping. The final straw was when I was sorry one morning that I'd woken up

CupOfTeaNonBio · 25/04/2020 14:38

I've noticed a lot more traffic today too. And neighbours having family round, albeit to sit in the garden. There seems to be a general sense of people being "over it".

StraightAndNarrow · 25/04/2020 14:41

Definitely more traffic on the roads where I am (London suburb).

Thescrewinthetuna · 25/04/2020 14:42

Most companies who closed didn’t actually need to in the first place. They just got shamed and slated on social media.

Thescrewinthetuna · 25/04/2020 14:42

They’re just opening back up but with more social distancing rules now.

PotteringAlong · 25/04/2020 14:43

People on my social media feed are openly posting about meeting up with family Angry

BlackCoffeeExtraStrong · 25/04/2020 14:44

This is both frightening and infuriating.

I have noticed the same over the past couple of days.

What is wrong with people?! We are finally starting to see a little light at the end of the tunnel and that is apparently a green light to get back to normal life! How stupid can you get?!

Honestly, my blood is boiling. In a few weeks time we'll inevitably see infection and death rates shoot back up and lockdown will be extended for much longer and will likely be much tighter.

Well done to all those who have decided to ignore the restrictions and do what they like 👏😠

trilbydoll · 25/04/2020 14:44

We went out to post a letter yesterday and I noticed we had to wait a while to cross the road. I'm sure 4 weeks ago it was empty but people are definitely driving somewhere now.

Picklypickles · 25/04/2020 14:44

No idea, I've not left my village for a month now the rest of the world could be gone for all I know!

AdoptedBumpkin · 25/04/2020 14:46

I don't personally know anyone who has gone back to normal. I have seen a bit more traffic on the road, but they are still pretty quiet.

Bounceyflouncey · 25/04/2020 14:47

I agree that they knew compliance would only be for a short amount of time, the trouble is that they haven't put forward any actual next steps for people to focus on, other than we will do test and trace, which I doubt anyone has any faith in anymore; we should have been doing that a few weeks ago!
