Am I missing something? Everyone seems to have gone back to normal?!

So much traffic here today, we live on a main road and it's been quiet for weeks now but today it's suddenly back to how it was pre lockdown.
Loads of people out on the streets, in quite big groups, a massive load of runners in a group just gone by and earlier a huge group of cyclists
And I've not been watching out particularly we our living room looks out over the road and I've been stuck under DS with the windows open and just looked up when I've heard noise.
Do you think people have had enough and just gone back to normal after all the media articles this week?
Did I miss an announcement? Not being disingenuous honestly wondering, I can't find anything online

Oh please God not Pritti Patel for the briefing.

We are all still supposed to be in lockdown but sadly too many people are selfish, too thick or oblivious and think they can go back to normal. Wouldn't be so bad if they only infected and/or killed themselves.

PianoTuner567 · 25/04/2020 15:39

The longer the lockdown goes on, the less compliant people will be. Any behavioural psychologist would tell you that.

UnderTheIroningBoard · 25/04/2020 15:39

Nothing has changed here, and nothing is open anyway apart from Tesco, Boots and Superdrug in my town. Can't imagine they are flocking to those- I'd rather stay home!

It's ANZAC DAY today.

It feels incredibly sad to have exceeded the 'we will do well if we keep deaths under 20,000' goal 😢

I haven't been out, so I don't know if it's busier/quieter - but I can hear more background noise cars/general hubbub. My neighbours have all had family round - not distancing.

86 people died in hospital in my local area last night...do people really want their loved ones to be a statistic in 3 weeks time?

You might be missing parents/grandparents/children/friends...but FFS what part I'd dying do people not bloody well understand?

Over 700 deaths AGAIN yesterday, why do people think their loved ones are immune??

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 15:41

Exactly. And as the government have behavioural psychologists advising them, reduced compliance over time will be factored into their plans and projections.

wafflyversatile · 25/04/2020 15:42

Also it's worth considering that at first many people would only go out if they absolutely had to get to a shop. Many people would not have gone out for exercise at all. I didnt for the first couple of weeks. I would only nip to shops within a few minutes walk of my flat. Last weekend I started going for morning walks every other day. Multiply me by several hundred households nearby and the pavements will be busier even though me and them are not doing anything outside the rules.

Amelietaylor · 25/04/2020 15:43

I'll leave it with you

Please leave with it & stop posting this utter shite.

RingtheBells · 25/04/2020 15:44

DH just texted and there are about 30 in front of him in B&Q queue, so a lot probably going there, not my idea of a jolly but men seem to enjoy it in there. I think I would rather sit in my garden or house, I'm quite glad I had an excuse not to go.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2020 15:45

Of course people are restless and angry.
Read any threads and you will see many different points of view.
It's leave or remain all over again!
Phillip Hammond is advocating getting back to work ASAP. Makes me wonder what Teresa May would have done.

Mustbetimeforachange · 25/04/2020 15:46

Very quiet here (village outside M25), just as it has been for the last month.

Choctimeout · 25/04/2020 15:48

This may be a daft question but...the peak graph, is that based on people being immune to this after they catch it?

If people don't get immunity at all then would the amount of cases/deaths still drop in a matter of weeks/months?

Gwynfluff · 25/04/2020 15:49

@ Tiger8 and yet you can’t do basic research that would tell you how the NHS prepared so it was not overwhelmed? Hint: cancelling operations and wider services was part of it.

And academic research about when the 5G conspiracy started - hint: it was August 2019 and not to do with the Covid.

If the global elite are out to kill us all, they are doing a shit job. In the 100 years since the Spanish Flu - including intro of vaccines, new drugs, television, digital revolution - the global population has grown by over 8 billion. Hint: globalised capitalism is reliant on mass populations consuming shit.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2020 15:50

Ringthebells, I loath b and q! Dh is a fan of the mooch while I stand about itching to get out the place. ' oh, 80s , look at this strimmer' no thanks mate!
Queueing up for 30 mins to get in it is my idea of hell.

LilyPond2 · 25/04/2020 15:51

Based on these posts, compliance levels appear to vary a lot from area to area. I have not seen evidence of large scale non-compliance, either where I live or among my Facebook friends.

lockeddownandcrazy · 25/04/2020 15:52

the point was to delay until there is capacity, we have capacity - the nightingale hospitals are empty - so what exactly are we delaying for now?

Sweden didnt lock down and have pretty much the same curve as us.

I personally am not that bothered and havent been out but i can see why people are getting peed off with it now

Chocolatecakeandpinkcustard · 25/04/2020 15:54

It definitely seems busier. I say that as someone who can only judge what I've seen from he window and on my local walk.

I know that B&Q has reopened as has a few other businesses.

I think that to begin with, some people weren't even going for a walk and weren't ordering things online much. As the weeks have gone by people have realised that isn't really sustainable and therefore are venturing out a bit more.m

Then there are the idiots that have always broken the rules.

It probably doesn't help that the government won't give us any hint of an exit strategy, so people are making their own minds up.

GabsAlot · 25/04/2020 15:54

i actually wish we'd had a french style lockdown just for 3 weeks or so then eased out of it

people just love a trip out even if its down to the shop-prob no point now trying to keep everyone in when they keep changing the guidlines

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2020 15:55

Lily pond, out town is being pretty good.
I went there for the first time today in weeks and it was quiet and well behaved. Free parking too. The shops I went in was ok in and out. More cars around but not sure where they were going!

Mascotte · 25/04/2020 15:55

I think also many businesses have now got set up for social distancing and have been able to re open.

GabsAlot · 25/04/2020 15:56

and ive just read the death toll is up again over 800 so clearly this isnt working

Chocolatecakeandpinkcustard · 25/04/2020 15:57

I think also many businesses have now got set up for social distancing and have been able to re open.

Exactly. We've stuck to the rules to the letter. Dh went to B&Q this morning as it's reopened and we needed stuff. There was a massive queue. That alone must be contributing to traffic.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2020 15:57

Our big B and Q is easy to do the distancing as it has wide aisles and an outdoor bit for plants etc. Still won't go in it though ! 😀

deydododatdodontdeydo · 25/04/2020 15:58

Not here, it's as quiet as ever.

ToffeeYoghurt · 25/04/2020 15:58

Theresa May is in the vulnerable group. Over 60 and diabetic. Two very high risk factors. I'd like to think that would influence her policy on this. Whether it actually would I don't know.

Choctimeout There's only so many people the virus has access to during a lockdown. So eventually it won't have anyone new to infect. That said, our lockdown is half-hearted and less likely to help as much. What we would have with a longer lockdown is time. Time for more progress on vaccines, and the production of treatment drugs. They seem relatively effective at early stages but there's a global shortage of stock. Time to get enough PPE for our frontline staff. Doctors and nurses and transport and care home workers are dying. The least we should do is provide them with proper protection. They're risking their lives for us. Also just simply more time to fund out more about the virus including whether or not we do get immunity after having it.
