When can hairdressers re-open?

They can limit customers so the chairs are spaced out.
Same person washes your hair as cuts it.
Anti bac their hands between customers.
Wear masks and limit chit chat.

I read somewhere that beauty services that involve close contact (less than 2m) may actually be the last to open. Because the gov are struggling to find a way to allow re-opening whilst allowing / maintaining social distancing.

TBH, I have hair trimmers and scissors. Whilst my cuts have not been Vidal sassoon standard, everyone is looking ‘groomed’. We’re in no rush to head back to tbh.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 24/04/2020 07:39

Your hairdresser can't be 2 metres away from you though. A couple of clients in a shop, one coughs, the hairdryer blows everything about. If doesn't bear thinking about.

Verily1 · 24/04/2020 07:41

You’ll just have to let it grow or do it yourself

thesurreyyouth · 24/04/2020 07:43

Article in DM today suggests hairdressers closed for 6 months.

knittingaddict · 24/04/2020 07:43

Hairdressing must be one of the worst occupations for spreading the virus. Spreading out customers is one thing, but the hairdresser has close contact with all he clients and then moves on to the next one. My hairdresser said that she was expecting to catch it at some point and I think that is being realistic.

I'm seriously considering taking my husband's hair trimmer to my head when my hair becomes too much.

PurpleDaisies · 24/04/2020 07:48

It’s hardly an essential service. You’re in prolonged close contact with someone who is in prolonged close contact with others.

In my opinion it’s going to be ages before they’re open.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/04/2020 07:54

I'd be there tomorrow if they reopened! I've coloured it reasonably well although it's faded after 2 weeks, but there's not a hope in hell of someone other than a qualified hairdresser cutting my hair!

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 24/04/2020 08:01

Six months or so some are saying
Great
Hair will be to the waist but all thin and wispy at the ends and the top will be a mix of natural brown and silver with lengths of red .

Bagelsandbrie · 24/04/2020 08:02

They will be one of the last places to open. Too much close contact.

cacaca · 24/04/2020 08:03

Nobody knows - some articles say they’ll be the last to open, some say the first. People here are only speculating as are the media.

AuntieMarys · 24/04/2020 08:07

I shall be the first person there. 11 weeks of roots and it's not pretty.

velocitygirl7 · 24/04/2020 08:07

I imagine hairdressers will be one of the last places to open? Dh & ds are already despairing at their appearances.
I luckily cut in a heavy fringe not long before lockdown, I've got long hair so will just keep it tied up and trim my fringe until I can have a proper cut!

hopeishere · 24/04/2020 08:09

Six months ShockShock

Thing is if they have to space people out can it be viable as a business?

Same with pubs and restaurants if their capacity is 50% of normal then they can't make a profit.

bengalcat · 24/04/2020 08:13

Miss my blow dries . At least my hair is long enough to tie up . Will hopefully be able to access hair dye for the roots . Managing at the moment with L’Oreals spray on stuff .

MaryBerrysBomberJacket · 24/04/2020 08:15

The thought of going to a hairdressers fills me with dread to be honest! It would be impossible to keep clean with more than 1 person at a time and without a deep clean between each. So much contact and air movement! Your body comes into contact with so many surfaces.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 24/04/2020 08:15

Bengalcat

Same . Luckily its long enough to go up in some manner . I have been looking for root spray but cannot seem to find any for my shade (red) so its , gasp, silver and brown roots .
Oh well . Baseball cap might come in handy for Summer . Grin

midgebabe · 24/04/2020 08:16

If we want low R then we need to keep distance
Particular risk to catch it is when you are within 2 meters of someone for more than 15 minutes, and touching even worse
And the more people you are that close to the more you will pass it on

Which does make hairdressing very difficult to do safely ( speedy barbers less so!)

If infection levels are particularly low in society, it may be a special programme of regular testing for hairdressers might help?

TheFredericaQuartet · 24/04/2020 08:21

I'd happy pay double to have my roots done and a good trim. They can skip the blow dry.

If they wore a face mask and I did and they didn't touch my face, surely we'd be ok.

MrsWhites · 24/04/2020 08:22

My roots are awful so I really hope it’s soon.

I read the same about government struggling to find ways to social distance in this setting but isn’t that just the point, realistically there is no way that we can go all year or longer until a vaccine comes out without coming within 2m of someone so we have to use other means of protection, hairdressers can wear masks and gloves, chairs can be spaced out so other clients don’t come into contact with each other. Workspaces can be cleaned between clients.

FFSFFSFFS · 24/04/2020 08:25

Lockdown is lifting in Switzerland and one of the first to open is hairdressers....

PurpleDaisies · 24/04/2020 08:26

If they wore a face mask and I did and they didn't touch my face, surely we'd be ok.

Well that’s alright then. Hmm

Widowodiw · 24/04/2020 08:30

I think a lot of
Hairdressers will start going mobile. I would happily have a mobile hairdresser right now tbh.

PurpleDaisies · 24/04/2020 08:31

How will that help anything widow?

KitchenConfidential · 24/04/2020 08:33

You’re literally dying for a hairdresser appointment. Ridiculous.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 24/04/2020 08:34

I personally am not going near a hairdressers till there’s a vaccine. Unnecessary risk!
