When can hairdressers re-open?

They can limit customers so the chairs are spaced out.
Same person washes your hair as cuts it.
Anti bac their hands between customers.
Wear masks and limit chit chat.

Here in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, hairdressers optometrists dentists are on the list to open up first due to their professional regulations and being familiar with good hygiene practices. I too envision gloves and masks.

middleager · 24/04/2020 08:37

I had a work video call yesterday. My roots are white. They usually come through after less than 2 weeks.

I've already done one root box dye. Soon my normal highlights will be covered with subsequent dyes.

I had to dab on dark brown eyeshadow on the roots.

I'm not joking when I say I'm considering a wig....

FallonSwift · 24/04/2020 08:38

I'd happy pay double to have my roots done and a good trim. They can skip the blow dry.

And how exactly do you think they are going to stay 2m away from you when trying to apply dye to your hair?

I get it. Your hair looks like a mess and you are self conscious about it. But if that's the worst thing bothering you right now, then you're in a pretty good position wouldn't you say?

backaftera2yearbreak · 24/04/2020 08:40

My hairdresser comes to my house.

MinesAPintOfTea · 24/04/2020 08:40

Dentists have had to shut for injection control. In a hairdressers the hairdresser spends up to an hour handling your hair, getting bits of hair everywhere, blowing warm air around. Barbers would be worse: those clippers can't be easy to get clean.

Not until all social distancing ends will I go back. They may reopen earlier: there was wondering about being necessary for people with disabilities, but that doesn't make it safe

I'm learning to cut hair for myself.

ifonly4 · 24/04/2020 08:41

It's not essential, so protecting health has to come above vanity/beauty. Most of us females will be in the same boat, unfortunately it's just something we have to accept.

Puppylucky · 24/04/2020 08:41

Stop bullying people! Posters are allowed to care about things like their hair. I'm so sick of all this sanctimonious shit that just reaks of mean spiritedness. Rant over!!

eaglejulesk · 24/04/2020 08:42

I caught norovirus from my hairdresser several years ago. I don't think they will open again for some time, you can't help but be in close contact with them.

Elieza · 24/04/2020 08:42

OP unfortunately wearing a mask isn’t a solution to let someone work on you very closely in safety.

A regular mask will limit the amount of virus coming from someone’s mouth and nose while speaking but can’t stop it altogether.

It can’t stop you getting the virus if it’s airbourne as it’s so fine is slips right through the weave of fabric.

So wearing a mask isn’t an option that will offer us full protection.

It’s thoughts like yours which many people are having that wearing a mask somehow makes you immune that are preventing us being told to wear them.
As the minute someone who thinks like you gets a mask on they will be out and about as normal spreading the virus to all and sundry thinking I’m fine as long as I don’t touch my face, I’ll go round to my mums for tea and then my Nan and possibly nip up and see my pal and her kids and then......etc. Meanwhile potentially spreading the virus.

I know three people who have died from it. Please read up on things as I feel you may not be reading the most informative material and could potentially be ignoring the rules we currently have if you think wearing a mask is a panacea. Apologies if I have misunderstood.

PurpleDaisies · 24/04/2020 08:42

Who is bullying anyone poppy?

ukgift2016 · 24/04/2020 08:44

My roots are showing and I tried hair dye and it went badlySad I'm waiting for the hairdressers to reopen or I have go down hair dye route again which I properly make an even worse job off it!

I am praying they will reopen in a few weeks.

Aridane · 24/04/2020 08:44

I'm not joking when I say I'm considering a wig....

Actually, for work (video) meetings, that’s really not a bad idea

habibihabibi · 24/04/2020 08:45

Hairdressers, barbers and nail bars are allowed to open in Dubai from today after a long strict lockdown.

MrsWhites · 24/04/2020 08:45

It’s not just about vanity though is it, it’s about a whole profession plus beauticians going out of business, these people have mortgages, children, bills to pay. To put them out of business for years is to put them into poverty!

MinesAPintOfTea · 24/04/2020 08:48

Puppy: i care about my appearance. I also care that infection control is kept down. I'd rather remember this year as the one with bad haircuts, silly hair dye colours and hats and headscarves than the year a family member got seriously ill.

YouTube has haircut video tutorials...

I think you need to calm down op.

TheFredericaQuartet · 24/04/2020 09:03

But if that's the worst thing bothering you right now, then you're in a pretty good position wouldn't you say?

Why do people come out with shit like this?

I perfectly calm having a chat about hairdressers on a chat forum. I don't appreciate passive aggressive emojis or comments. Just engage in the conversation or press the hide button.

Just before lockdown I was given a Revlon Pro brush hairdryer ionic thing.

It would probably have stayed in its box and been ages before I tried it pre covid but it’s brilliant.

Long hair so quite a faff to make it look salon blow dried usually but this is quick and easy with a really good result.

Lavenderpurple · 24/04/2020 09:08

I’m in the industry (hair/beauty) and I can’t see many of my colleagues holding out 6 months to go back to work. All of us are self employed and so far we’re all yet to see some financial help. I will definitely be going back sooner rather than later. I haven’t bought a penny in since 21st March.

lovinglavidaloca · 24/04/2020 09:09

I’m getting married (hopefully) in 6 months. So I hope hairdressers are able to operate by then Sad

PurpleDaisies · 24/04/2020 09:11

That’s not your decision to make though lavender. You can’t start work again until the lockdown rules are lifted.

JustHereLooking · 24/04/2020 09:12

I’m a hairdresser and personally I don’t see why you would want to put yourself at risk. But I certainly wouldn’t want to put myself at risk or risk spreading it on to others and my family. As for hairdressers don’t touch your face. I’m pretty sure your head is close to your face also your forehead/hairline gets touched when you’re having your hair washed/cut. I understand your hair appearance is important but your appearance won’t mean anything if you end up catching Coronavirus and becoming seriously ill or passing it on to your children/partner.

Parsley1234 · 24/04/2020 09:13

I have a beauty salon and from the beginning I couldn’t understand how I could reopen because of keeping my viral load low. I’ve seen a lot of friends salons already closing and I’m looking at doing the same as in realistic terms I cannot see how we can work.
