"Some" disruptive social distancing to be in place till the end of the year

Says Chris Witty. Nothing unexpected but I really wish they would say what they're talking about when they say shit like this. What does "some" mean? Schools? WFH? Family visits?

I don't think they can give us a whole years plan in advance as it has to be based on the numbers at the time. I'm sure they've been telling us this since the start.

googlepoodle · 22/04/2020 19:01

Yes I thought Chris was very negative today

Frompcat · 22/04/2020 19:02

I'm not expecting a detailed plan but don't tell me they don't know exactly what they have in mind when they say stuff like that.

Babyroobs · 22/04/2020 19:03

I think maybe it means things like pubs/ crowded places/ festivals/ concerts not going ahead. People still working from home if possible, restrictions in supermarkets

pfrench · 22/04/2020 19:04

Good, I'm glad they are being 'negative', because that's more realistic.

All this 'lockdown will end in 3 weeks, I can go to Spain in July' stuff is not realistic. It's good that they are saying this now.

smokescreen · 22/04/2020 19:04

SadSad

pfrench · 22/04/2020 19:05

Frompcat - they don't have stuff in mind beyond vaccine and testing. We haven't got either.

Frompcat · 22/04/2020 19:09

Then why say "some disruptive social distancing measures" if they don't say what those are? And if they don't know what they are, then why not just say that?

OP posts:
Frompcat · 22/04/2020 19:10

I can do WFH, I can do DS off school, I can do going out once a day. But I'm badly struggling not seeing my mum and sisters, whom I would usually see 3x a week at most.

This really shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone though.

I’m confused as to why people would be shocked by this.

megletthesecond · 22/04/2020 19:16

yy angel. I'm preparing myself for things to not get almost back to normal until next spring.

onceandneveragain · 22/04/2020 19:16

At one point they were thinking of keeping the elderly and extremely vulnerbale shielded for up to 18 months so could just be that? Or just no big enclosed gatherings (like music gigs?) - in my mind they would be the most dangerous. Agree with a previous poster .... can do without everything else but just missing seeing my family.

NathanNathan · 22/04/2020 19:17

I still don't understand how this can be maintained.

What about the millions of people who work in:
Pubs, restaurants, nurseries, leisure centres, shops, cinemas, public transport, holiday companies, airlines...

If these places can't reopen millions lose their jobs. I just don't understand how it can work.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 22/04/2020 19:19

Im not shocked and i dont care About social distancing if thats whet we have to do (though dd really wants to go clubbing)

I just really want to see My eldest

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 22/04/2020 19:19

What...not whet!

Frompcat · 22/04/2020 19:19

Angellegna

I clearly said in my OP I wasn't shocked at all. What I'm questioning is why they won't tell us what the measures they'll keep in place are.

I know I'm not waiting until December to see my sister again.

For goodness sake. Clearly we weren't listening to the same thing; it was most informative- particularly with the general of the army giving his briefing.

They're doing their best, without the left keep trying to point score every five minutes.

As if they'd do any better... my goodness, can't even begin to imagine Corbyn and Abbott dealing with this global crisis.

Doesn't bear thinking about. Gives me chills.

Frompcat · 22/04/2020 19:21

They're doing their best, without the left keep trying to point score every five minutes.

Sorry, but how on earth do you have any idea what my political affiliation is?

OP posts:
Greysparkles · 22/04/2020 19:21

I suspect they don't have a bloody clue. They just spout bollocks everyday.
Even if they did give an indication it would probably be bullshit like the bullshit testing targets

Frompcat · 22/04/2020 19:22

I also wasn't aware that Chris Witty was affiliated to any political party.

I'm just saying don't say "some disruptive social measures" and then fail to say what those are.

OP posts:
emilybrontescorsett · 22/04/2020 19:23

Perhaps they don't want to cause mass outrage and panic.
I seriously doubt if in say two months everything will be back to normal.
I don't anticipate schools to open before September and even then it might have to be on a Rota system so limited numbers are allowed in.
I can't see pubs or nightclubs being allowed to open as they did previously either for at least 6 months.

Gruffawoah · 22/04/2020 19:23

I think it's right he didn't give any more info on long-term plans as they don't know yet. But they do need to start thinking about the near future in my opinion, people are getting restless, and it's far better to have a plan than people just going rogue.

Frompcat · 22/04/2020 19:24

They are treating the general public like children.

OP posts:
Coronabored · 22/04/2020 19:27

Of course it is going to mean pubs, gigs, sports events and the likewise. That's just common sense.

Traveller101 · 22/04/2020 19:27

My brother who is a head in a secondary says that he expects his school to be open in June and primary schools a little earlier but they are looking at further closures in Oct/Nov.

Life isn’t going back to normal this year is it.
