Won't there be a second peak in Spain and other places that have eased or stopped lockdown? Is anywhere completely back to normal yet? Surely we are closely monitoring China and what is happening there?

Any truth in this? Sorry it the red top

glitterballs134 · 02/05/2020 14:17

Is Social distancing over in Barca then?

nellodee · 02/05/2020 14:21

If it's raised it from 0.6 to 0.9 across the whole population, I imagine that equates to a lot of teachers catching the virus. Sad

woodencoffeetable · 02/05/2020 15:16

glitter
if you go from the premise that dc spread the disease (albeit a third less than adults) then yes, that's hardly surprising.
I have a relative in denmark, their dc will continue distance learning until august.

HeIenaDove · 02/05/2020 15:19

Well we can stop discussing this now really as apparently the fault that there is a high death toll is down to overweight people.

Fucking MN

And @pocketem you knew EXACTLY how that thread would go.

felineflutter · 02/05/2020 15:50

don't like being physically close to people at the best of times but I definitely don't want people outside of my children and mum anywhere near me now. I can't imagine wanting to go shopping anywhere busy.

Some people don't have a choice. I turned up for my shift at 7am and there was one mask literally one mask ffs!

ToffeeYoghurt · 02/05/2020 16:31

It's worth bearing in mind Spain had a far stricter lockdown than us. Some of their opening up will only bring them to the same level of lockdown as our halfhearted one.

No idea why Denmark would be surprised about increased infections. It's a highly contagious disease. Contagion. No point opening up too early only to suffer a repeat likely worse spread.

@Wehttam I'm worried about Covid and aircon. I'd be very surprised if it didn't spread it.

The guardian article confirms what I said several months ago. That it would be large urban centres particularly London that would suffer the most with Covid. High density poor quality housing, very high levels of deprivation, crowded public transport, non essential flights continuing with no checks or quarantine. I also noted as a consequence it would likely disproportionately impact BAME communities.

The government would surely have been aware of the above. If they did for some reason lack basic foresight they certainly have no excuse this time round. Any decision to end lockdown prematurely will be made in the full knowledge of who this will affect the most. That's not including the damage to the economy stop, start, stop, start would do.

glitterballs134 · 02/05/2020 16:38

If schools that are outside, 6 foot apart inside and only primary and nurseries caused a 0.3 raise that doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room.

HeIenaDove · 02/05/2020 17:57

Have a listen to this. What a shambles

Oh God, I hadn't thought about this. That's made me paranoid about work now 👀

SistemaAddict · 02/05/2020 18:24

Dd has just said she'll write "f off: 2 metres!" on her face mask if she has to wear one 😂

Her HT emailed yesterday to say nothing has changed and there are still no plans to reopen school and that there are a lot of things to consider to ensure the safety of students and staff. It's a big school and the state cases and corridors are not conducive to distancing.

You do know it's bad form to bring posts from other threads into another?

And, the thread on obesity being a risk factor is saying just that. It's fact that it's a risk factor, potentially on its own without other underlying issues (though they often go hand in hand). The further research on the risk factors is interesting (and may help save lives down the line).

Inkpaperstars · 02/05/2020 20:17

the thread on obesity being a risk factor is saying just that.

To be fair, it wasn't.

woodencoffeetable · 02/05/2020 20:35

obesity is a difficult topic for sure.

ajandjjmum · 02/05/2020 21:56

The aircon in offices is a possible concern. There is a manufacturer who has developed an ultra-violet light that can be fitted by the aircon kit, which will kill any virus. Apparently that particular UV light also kills humans though, so would have to be in plant rooms etc. A very hefty cost for businesses to install.

DH has said from the outset that he is concerned about the virus spreading through aircon, and it does now seem that this was the case on the cruise ships.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/05/2020 23:14

To be fair, it wasn't.

The bit I read was, maybe the tone changed after I stopped reading it. But it IS a risk factor. That is fact, even if people don't like it.

Coronavirus helpline firm suspended after seating staff less than 2 metres apart
EXCLUSIVE: An urgent investigation has been launched into AGO Outsourcing after we found workers at its call centre were asked to sit as little as a metre apart - and sign a waiver absolving bosses of blame if they got sick

Strange how our cultural attitudes can have changed so much seemingly permanently in just a couple of months.

Not sure it's just cultural.

Also economic.

We've been bulk buying even more than we were previously (and we'd already started to get into the habit of doing so).

Going to the supermarket once a fortnight and going to a supermarket without lots of aisles to browse at the shit at, is saving us a fortune as we've had to be a lot smarter at what we buy.

It gives us more time as a family to do other things. In the past we'd frequently find ourselves going to the supermarket for something to do (particularly DH as he has to 'do something') and for an excuse to get out the house.

As it turns out, he quite likes being around the house.

We'd already started trying to buy more locally where possible. Again we are merely doing more if this.

Improvising with stuff we already have versus buying something is also great.

Inkpaperstars · 03/05/2020 02:22

@NoWordForFluffy

I think the tone did probably change, it became less about whether it is a risk factor and more about other things. Certain topics always seem to head down the same roads on here!

NoWordForFluffy · 03/05/2020 07:35

Ah, that would explain it. It wasn't that long when I read it, then I didn't go back to it as I was doing other stuff!

EmeraldShamrock · 03/05/2020 15:15

Ridiculous trying to blame civilians on the high death toll, I saw lots of nonsense and vile excuses around the death of the elderly and vunerable too. I'm alright, Jack shines through only coronavirus isn't that picky.
