To think the amount of people we know who have died or are dying from CV is proportionately high?

Between DP and I, we know 3 people who have died and one who is very likely to due in the next 24 hours from/with Covid-19. We live in Yorkshire.

My old hairdresser who was 38 Sad DP's workmates husband who was a 60 year old GP (she is a nurse) and my workmates Mum who was in her 80's and lived in a care home but was very well on mothers day. My sisters FIL has early onset alzheimer's and is 58, currently in hospital but they had to complete a DNR for him this morning and they are refusing to admit him to critical care or for ventilation.

DP thinks this is probably an average amount that most people will see in this pandemic (he is frontline NHS so quite fatalistic) whereas I didn't think we would know this many people who would die, in what is essentially a month long period.

AIBU to think this is quite high or are you all seeing similar? It is very much adding to my long list of worries.

We wonder if we had it as all of DP's nursing team seem to have been ill and the lady whose GP husband died tested positive and was in work the week before her DH died. Four of us (me, dp and 2 of my DC's) had symptoms 3 weeks ago and I still have a cough but how do we know as you can not have an antigen test. I don't like saying 'We had it'as we really don't know without testing.

1 colleague dead
1 colleague vented
2 poorly but at home

All confirmed positives. Numerous suspected but untested.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/04/2020 17:59

Dh has an ex colleague who had it, and has recovered.

We don’t know anyone else who’s had, or has it.

Devlesko · 16/04/2020 18:01

I'm in the NW and don't know anyone who has had it.
I heard about a man my dc used to play a team sport with, who sadly died.
I didn't know him and have heard of nobody else in our town.
I think the main cases are Cities and South East/London.

happinessischocolate · 16/04/2020 18:01

I'm in dorset where the figures are very low and a close friend said 2 of his mates in a nearby town died from covid last weekend.

Another friend has just been discharged from hospital, I didn't even know she was ill, which highlights the point of would you even know if a friend/acquaintance had covid or had been admitted into hospital?

Unless you're close or the family posts about it on fb you'd be none the wiser until they were either discharged from hospital or passed away. 🙁

hopefulhalf · 16/04/2020 18:01

That's awful 1 foot where are you ?

Bossycat · 16/04/2020 18:02

My sister who works on a covid ward currently has it but is nearly recovered. My other sister who also works on a covid ward hasn't but numerous of her colleagues have including one who is very unwell.

LaurieMarlow · 16/04/2020 18:03

I know two people who’ve died. A very distant relative and my best friend’s neighbour. Both in nursing homes.

I also have an acquaintance who’s father has been very ill with it, but thankfully looks like he’s on the mend now.

Aryaneedle · 16/04/2020 18:03

1Foot are you on wards and where do you live?

From a very loose analysis of this thread I wonder of there is a link between area you live in and your line of work?

A friend of a friend has died from it. A family friend is currently unwell with it. A local friend who is a nurse has had it, been hospitalised, and now v recently recovered thankfully. Her children also had it but came through unscathed

theendoftheendoftheend · 16/04/2020 18:05

I know one person in hospital with it.

notalwaysalondoner · 16/04/2020 18:05

I don’t know anyone who has died of it, not even someone else’s relative or friend. I know a few people who think they’ve had it but no one who was actually confirmed as they haven’t been hospitalised.

HPLikecraft · 16/04/2020 18:05

I know two people who have very likely had it: very fit (marathon runner) friend who was very ill, and still not back to normal yet after 4 weeks; and my mum, who is 72. Mum has an underlying health problem and compromised immunity, but is generally fit and super active.

Don’t know anyone who’s died, fortunately.

Allthepinkunicorns · 16/04/2020 18:08

I don't know anyone who has died of it or even had it. Although I have heard of a couple of elderly people dying off it in the area.

Jocasta2018 · 16/04/2020 18:10

I know one person in London that had it - mid 60s male - had a private test done at home as HCP in the private sector. Was off work for a fortnight, now back at work ok.
And that's all in the UK.
In central Italy a friend's 95-yr old grandfather died at home within 12hrs of showing symptoms but he had severe health issues. All the rest of his family are ok.

goldpartyhat · 16/04/2020 18:10

Don't know anyone diagnosed or died with it. I think my cousins family in Norfolk May have all had it judging by the symptoms, but no one in hospital.

susandelgado · 16/04/2020 18:11

Welsh town with a population of 240000 people . There are 896 cases documented so far and I know one person who has died and about 6 others infected or recovering Sad

1FootInTheRave · 16/04/2020 18:12

I'm in the north west and work in maternity 😥

Sexnotgender · 16/04/2020 18:12

Friend of my parents friend.

Friend of a friend. Both elderly males.

HoffiCoffi13 · 16/04/2020 18:14

I ‘know of’ two people who have died, but I have a pretty large social circle and they are mainly distant relatives of people I know. I don’t personally know anyone.
I know many people who suspect they’ve had it, and 2 who have had it confirmed.

MouthBreathingRage · 16/04/2020 18:14

An old university acquaintance of my husband has apparently died from it.

That's appalling. Alzheimer's presumably isn't one of the underlying conditions that makes him higher risk.

Depending on how far along the disease is, it's definitely more likely to have a worse effect. Alzheimer's shuts down the system, you literally forget how to breath or swallow, leaving you highly prone to infections.

1981m · 16/04/2020 18:14

I know 3 people who have had it, we are in the south west. But no-one who has died.

Custardcreamies101 · 16/04/2020 18:15

I know of 4 people who have died from it

MyFavouritePlace · 16/04/2020 18:15

One person at work had it and recovered. Friend's sister (57) died from it.

PrimeraVez · 16/04/2020 18:16

I’m in Dubai and know of about 4 people (work colleagues) who tested positive. Luckily all seemed have very mild cases.

I don’t know anyone back home in the UK who has been confirmed as having it.
